That sounds frustrating. Did you ask to have the charge removed? You have a right to refuse to pay discretionary charges in the UK. Per the Consumer Advisory, “If a service charge is labelled discretionary, you have the right to refuse it—even if it’s already added to your bill. The restaurant cannot force it unless it was clearly communicated before ordering.”
