This veg community is spread out in close proximity around The HQ of Santi Asoke, the largest and most well known sect to be excommunicated from the countries national Buddhist body. This is not to say that they don't support vegetarianism. Indeed, they do more than their share to promote healthy food that is organic, non GM and all natural products and ideals including peace to cows and other animals that are subject to human fodder. This is evidenced by the veg community surrounding them which consists of say 30 business's catering to vegetarian restaurant, natural fibre clothing, non chemical products such as for household cleaning and non chemical personal hygiene products such as toothpaste. Also aromatherapy, massage therapy products, a big range of colon cleansing stuff, vitamin and mineral supplements, natural Thai medicinal products, books and other media (mostly Thai language), organic fruit and veg shops, health food veg cafe, organic food snack bar, health orientated mini markets, natural product super market, natural product wholesale outlet, street vendors and more and so on.... I have twice been to this veg community and Santi Asok 'forest monastery' HQ (which incidentally is well within the bounds of suburban Bangkok:) The first time a Santi Asok volunteer gave me a 2 hour unpaid guided tour of the HQ and veg community and also helped me as interpretor in my efforts to find (successfully) organic live aloe vera. One small cafe does very nice organic vegan ice cream.
