Hi Steph M. Thank you yet again for another review on our cafe....it's virtually identical but there you gave us 1 star. So I am following your cut/paste reviews around the online landscape with a cut/ paste reply...here it is....With all your concerns especially around our name- its still nice to see you appreciated our food and our amazing staff, they truly are the heart of the business! Although I understand your disapproval of our use of the name Kaiaroha, and the importance of using names in culturally appropriate ways and with the blessing of the peoples, perhaps not everyone agrees with your interpretation. The story of how the name came about is easy to access, being on both our Facebook page and Website- but for this record... In 2011 at a time when Te Reo was not commonly used or promoted and before choosing this name, I approached a wonderful community leader from the Ratana Church commonly acknowledged as local Kaumatua. After discussions with him he suggested and gave me this name to use and affirmed that it was a good useage given what we were doing and why. Since then others have used it after us including a great group of people serving the community in Tauranga. We stand by the decision to use the name. Certainly I do not claim to be an expert in Maori culture, but the name epitomises our values and we are foremost, absolutely a values driven business.
