They have so many fun vegan options, I got the big kahuna and substituted the meat for their vegan chicken. SO. GOOD. Also, the vegan brownie is soooo rich. The only downside is they up charge for vegan substitutes.

If you’re in town on a Sunday, I definitely suggest popping over to Pelon’s. I’m not sure if the chimichanga is every Sunday, or if I just got lucky, but it was really great. Added chick’n and even came with vegan sour cream!

I love this place. Not only many vegan options but they also have whole wheat tortillas or the option to make your burritos wet with sauce and cheese for extra $. Buy a burrito and drink on tuesday, they'll give you a free vegan brownie baked by my vegan sweet tooth.

Pelon's is amazing because you can get almost anything on the menu veganized. They have vegan subs for chicken, steak, fish, chorizo, sour cream, and cheese. They do something to the vegan chicken that makes it super tasty, like it's a little blackened. The vegan steak is delicious as well. I highly recommend the vegan Hang Ten burrito, which includes faux chicken, rice, black beans, guac, verde sauce, vegan cheese, and onion. Pick from shelves of hot sauces. Get a margarita while you wait or finish off with a vegan brownie. If you're looking for super authentic Mexican food, this might not be the place for you, but for a fun Mexi/Cali/surf inspired experience with endless vegan options, Pelon's is the best. They have a location at the VB Oceanfront too. Service usually fine but it's an order at the counter system where they give you a number. Once an employee yelled in the middle of the restaurant that nobody was using their numbers.

Pelon’s baja grill has more than your average number of vegan options. They can veganize a lot of stuff for a 15% upcharge. Yes it costs extra, and no, i dont like that. However, usually when a mexican restaurant makes something vegan it means no cheese, no meat, no sour cream, and no sauces. Not the case here. They have vegan chickan, beef, carne asada, soyrizo, cajun fried tofu, sour cream, and sauces. They also know how to cook with these things. I highly recommend stopping here if you have a taste for mexican food!

My boyfriend and I were down in Norfolk, VA for a concert. I was nervous about coming here cause I’m not big on fake meat but holy crap their vegan chorizo is incredible. My boyfriend got it in a quesadilla. I wanted to steal his damn plate. I only got to go once unfortunately, but if I ever visit Virginia Beach I will absolutely be stopping down there again.

Not exactly what we were expecting but surprised at how much we enjoyed aspects of this hidden gem. Being vegan i enjoyed having the option of vegan chicken, steak, and tofu. my husband being a California meat eater (sadly) enjoyed the carne asada, with very littlw judgment which is rare with Cali-mex on the east coast. would definitely recommend skipping on the salsa unless you like a sweet and very very chunky salsa.

So good! They have some vegetarian items listed on the menu. However, anything denoted with a flower on the menu can be veganized. They also have vegan cheese and sour cream. We tried the vegan fish, chicken, and carne tacos. All delicious but the vegan carne was my personal favorite. We also tried the vegan version of the Hang Ten burrito and I added vegan sour cream. Also delicious. From what I heard they make their own vegan meat. It didn't taste like Gardein or any other faux meat I have ever tried so I'm sure that's true. And it is SO much better than most faux meat! We also tried the taco salad with vegan chicken. This was our least favorite. I'm not a fan of Daiya cheese and the flavor was too prominent on the salad. Also, there were too many beans versus other toppings. Not bad just not my favorite. In addition to vegan food they also have vegan desserts. The brownies were incredible! I would definitely go back next time I'm in Norfolk!

As a California native, I really appreciate this place! Almost everything on the menu has a vegan alternative. There is an up-charge for it, but it's worth it. The owner and staff are super friendly, and they remember our usual order. We go here almost once a week and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
Read moreIf I had to mention one negative thing, the vegan brownies are pretty dry. But, everything else is awesome! I love the vegan chicken tacos or the Vegan Grass Hut burrito and my husband loves the vegan fish tacos or the Vegan Dude or Curl burrito.

All we can say is, "Wow!" Pelon's Baja Grill is hands-down the best Mexican style food we've ever had. This counter-service restaurant is extremely vegan friendly. Many of the menu items can be made vegan with Gardein, Daiya, non-dairy sour cream and Pelon's outstanding homemade chunky guacamole. The vegan chicken nachos were amazing! We've had Gardein at many restaurants, but Pelon's sautes their Gardein in a special blend of spices that is out of this world. We also enjoyed The Curl burrito with breaded, deep-fried tofu and creamy vegan Baja sauce. The owner was extremely friendly and helpful. She told us that Pelon's uses a separate grill for the vegan items. We can't wait for our next trip to Norfolk to come back to Pelon's. Other perks include vegan brownies, homemade sauces including a delicious pineapple habanero sauce, and a large selection of bottled hot sauces.
