Very slow service!

I found the whole experience a bit frustrating. There was no staff around when I went so I had to wave to them from the kitchen. The menu was very hard to read with the font and colours they've used, and the man who took my order seemed very rushed. I then waited a very long time for my food. I ordered some spicy takoyaki and one of the bowls. It took about 20 mins for the takoyaki to arrive and they were kind of dried out, and not super fresh. Otherwise the flavour was okay. Another 20 mins later and still no second dish. They brought me out a complimentary bowl of soup for the delay, which was nice, but I wasn't a big fan of the flavour. Finally, close to an hour after I ordered, the bowl came. It was not what I expected. I thought it would be more vegetables as I was told, but it had mostly fried things in it. It tasted okay, but everything was quite oily. I didn't finish it. The portion sizes are decent so if the service had been even marginally better, I'd probably give it a better review. But I definitely won't be rushing back soon.

High quality Japanese vegan food

Tian Zhi Yu Restaurant is another good quality Japanese restaurant. They are all vegan with some interesting items like okonomiyaki and takoyaki.

The vegan okonomiyaki, which is a Japanese pancake traditionally made mainly with eggs and cabbage, is well made and delicious. They are able to make this without egg. The pancake is flavorful and the edges are crispy. Would be perfect if it’s less oily.

Takoyaki which usually is made with octopus, is created with oyster mushroom to mimic the texture. The mixed flavor plate comes with a few different flavor toppings.

One thing that’s not as great is the use of plastic. Fork, spoon and chopsticks are all one-use. And they only have plastic bottled drinks available.

Pros: All vegan, Delicious food

Cons: Use of plastic

Questionable sanitation

The owners also run a cell phone business at the same location. I don't know if multitasking contributed to their lack of attention to sanitaion. Our plates came with significant stains and grease...probably won't visit again.

Pros: Tastes good

Cons: Sanitation problem

SoSo

The food is good BUT the service is one by one... It was very slow, we were five and We didn’t eat together.
Despite the fact that we asked with no chili It was quiete spicy
It’s a bit overpriced for the quantity
If you want to be wastefree, bring your own chopsticks cause everything is single use except for the plate.
There is no water on the table.

Awesome!

Where to begin? The food is simply amazing, at a good price point. Korean and Japanese food veganized authentically, like okonomiyaki, takoyaki, Korean rice noodles available as set menus or individual dishes. Filling portion sizes. The place offers plenty of seating and food is served reasonably quickly, there is more than one staff member, in contrast to an earlier review. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Not impressed

Although I was quite hungry, it was not easy to finish this meal - not because of big portions, but because of unwillingness to to continue. My colleague and I each chose the set meal, which includes miso, the balls, and entree. My entree, teppanyaki noodles, were billed as spicy but were not at all, just too dry and tasteless. The other entree was a vegetable casserole, that my colleague described as gluey, and left unfinished. Both of us left the balls unfinished, which were also gluey and uninteresting.

It is a rather small place (5 tables I think) that was full that day. Service seemed slow, with only one server, who was unavailable much of the time, apparently also doing kitchen duty.

Disappointed, definitely not interested in returning.

Pros: 100% vegan and allium-free , Cool, convenient location, in Cultural Center area

Cons: Uninspiring food taste and texture , Slow service

Amazing food

Tian Zhi Yu is definitely my favorite vegan restaurant in Kaohsiung! I love their vegan takoyaki balls, okonomiyaki (fried cabbage pancake) and fried noodles, as well as the miso soup. The portion is also pretty big. Highly recommended :)

Pros: amazing food , friendly staff, location
