Multiple vegan options

I LOVE the tempeh wings. I’d get them everyday if I could. Vegan pastries are good too.

Consistently Quality

The Roost has become almost a daily "stop in" for me, as I recently moved to the area for my work and desperately needed to find my new reading/working space. The several vegan/gluten-free options offered (Tempeh Wings, salads, etc.) are consistently made well, and the employees there are extremely hard working, friendly, and helpful. The vibe is cool, laid back, and welcoming.

Note: Dig espresso? And almond milk? Order the cortado!

five stars

Five stars isn’t allowed for non-veg restaurants, but I think The Roost deserves five stars. The buffalo tempeh is out of this world! The only thing I really missed from my meat-eating days was buffalo chicken and, I’ll tell you, that stuff really scratches that itch.

They also have a vegan bahn mi-style sandwich worth writing home about, plus lots of veg and vegan items, all clearly marked. I had a question about ingredients and they had documentation about everything on the menu to answer all my questions.

TL;DR: I love this joint.

Pros: great casual atmosphere, tasty food

delish

I had the buffalo tempeh sandwich with a tahini sauce and a lemon/ginger/ raspberry bar- both very good. Husband had the pesto chicken sandwich and a cookie which he said were both delicious. Cant wait to go back!

Cafe for the whole family

They serve several faux milk options for coffee drinks. Had one yummy lemon ginger pastry that was vegan. My daughter had a nice allergy friendly "Jimmy Buffet" smoothie which had a bunch of tropical fruit and coconut water.

Pros: Good selection

Cons: Hipster than thou staff

Plenty of options!

There are plenty of vegan options here, including earth balance and tofutti for bagels, and smoked tofu or buffalo tempeh to add to/substitute on sandwiches and salads. There are always two soups- one hot and one cold during the summer, and two hot during the colder seasons. One of these is usually vegan. There are always three daily sides- one of which is always peanut noodles (vegan) and the other two are a rotating pickle (like pickled beets) and a rotating vegetable side (like a quinoa salad, a spring slaw, etc) and these are often vegan or can be made vegan. The granola does have honey, but is otherwise vegan and gluten free.

Lots of the bars are vegan- coconut chocolate, chocolate graham, nutty chocolate oat, apricot walnut, strawberry lemon ginger- and there are three vegan cookies- cowgirl, mexican chocolate, and lemon snap. There is always one vegan cake option, and the chocolate raspberry cupcake is also vegan!

There is almond, soy and coconut milk to substitute for drinks and smoothies for no extra charge (which is rare!) and the staff is very knowledgeable about vegan options and substitutions if you ask.

Pros: Lots of options! , The cowgirl cookie and the nutty chocolate oat bar

Cons: Sometimes the soups aren't vegan

Funky & Friendly

I went here with my friends on a day trip to Northampton, and I was very happy with the restaurant as a whole. I had a delicious vegan peanut butter smoothie and the "zadie" sandwich, which consists of sourdough bread, hummus, sprouts, cucumber, and tomato. Both were amazing and took no time at all to be delivered to my table. The staff was also very nice when my friend had no idea what to choose, and gave her lots of sincere suggestions. I also took a bite of a cookie that she ordered (one of many vegan bakery options), and it was very tasty as well. The only (sort of) downside to this cute café is that it was very crowded and noisy. Although I kind of enjoy this type of atmosphere, I acknowledge that many people do not. Otherwise, I highly recommend the Roost to anyone, vegan, vegetarian, or meateater.

Pros: Great food, friendly staff, lots of options

Cons: crowded, noisy

Excellent cafe atmonsphere with selections for all

The Roost consistently offers a menu with variety to serve all, and includes many daily vegan options. The staff are always courteous and knowledgeable, and when they don't know the veganism of any item they check until they are sure the answer. Permanent vegan menu items have been a smoked tofu sandwich (the tahini dressing is so delicious, and although whitish in color, vegan), the Market Street salad (add tofu to the avocado, chickpeas, and greens for a greater meal, ask for the tahini dressing if you prefer over the standard lemon poppy vinaigrette), and buffalo tempeh (ask to replace bleu cheese with tofitti cream cheese or tahini dressing).

Daily sides to the salad board are often vegan, and can be added to a big salad for a hearty meal. Soups are often vegan and always well-labeled.

Drinks include coffee drinks (no additional price for almond, soy or rice milk!), beer, wine, tea and iced tea as well as seasonal selections such as hot cider or lemonade.

The atmosphere is busy but comfortable, and the place is usually full. People often work on computers or study, but there are no wall sockets for plugs so if you use a device (free wi-fi) you need your own battery power and to ask for the password. Staff are always friendly, helpful and patient, and the owners are accessible and caring about their patrons and community.

Pros: Very good vegan cafe options, Alcohol- and non-alcohol beverages, Helpful, patient, friendly staff

Cons: Sometimes prohibitively busy, No sockets to plug in devices, Daily specials not always vegan
