Taiwanese, Michelin-starred cuisine

Mipon is an upscale restaurant at Taipei's Grand Mayfull Hotel. It has one Michelin star and serves Taiwanese cuisine. Their menu includes a Vegetarian Set Meal, which can be veganised upon request. (A la carte is also possible.) We made a reservation in advance, added a note that one diner was vegan. We confirmed this at the restaurant. The waiter did seem slightly unsure (i.e., he didn't necessarily understand the difference between vegetarian and vegan), but the food is Taiwanese so the risk for dairy is low. The vegetarian set meal that night only had one item that did not seem vegan (Deep Fried Tofu Roll with Mayonnaise), so I simply noted that the mayonnaise was likely problematic. They served that particular dish without sauce, and none of the other dishes had anything non-vegan either. Items on the set menu (which is seasonal): Vegetable Salad with Sesame Sauce, Stewed Mushrooms and Taro with Chinese Herbs in Chinese Casserole (delicious), Deep Fried Tofu Roll, Pickled Peppers with Bean Sprouts and Konjac (the most fascinating dish of the meal for me), Tomato Stuffed with Assorted Mushrooms, Misua Noodle with Mushroom and Sesame Oil, Seasonal Fruit Platter. Additionally, we were also served a Green Papaya with Passion Fruit Sauce appetizer and a Snow Fungus Soup for dessert (from the regular menu, but this is indeed vegan).
The food was very good, but the quality of ingredients and presentation was varied – iceberg lettuce is not something I would expect in the salad of a high-end restaurant! Similarly, the Stuffed Tomato could have had some more interesting seasoning. That said, the Stewed Mushroom and Taro dish, though it looked unappealing was delicious and the Pickled Peppers dish was intriguing – my lips were tingling and it really seemed like this is the sort of dish you want to be served in a Michelin-star restaurant.
In any case, if you want a fine-dining experience in Taipei and want an place that caters to both vegan and omni, then this is a solid choice.
Restaurant atmosphere: plenty of large groups, including families, mostly Taiwanese, so it's not a quiet dining experience – but an authentic one.

Pros: Upscale Taiwanese cuisine, Caters to mixed groups of diners

Cons: Some ingredients/presentation too basic for price, Restaurant can be a bit loud
