Peaceful - Edit
In very posh part of town close to famous department store 'Breuninger'. Salad buffet, vegan cake, vegan cookies, veggies. Not all food labeled, also, some staff members completely clueless as to vegan / non vegan. No posh attitudes & peaceful. Coffee is fine (mild vs. strong option — cool!). Numerous seats inside — maybe 100. Directly at subway stop 'Charlottenplatz', few stops f/ central station.

high quality food - Edit
Besides vegetarian also more and more vegan dishes in biological quality. Very large salad buffet, warm dishes and delicious desserts (cremes and cakes). Owners are very open minded vegan eating.

Good, not outstanding - Edit
I had lunch at Iden a few days ago, and the vegan options were fairly limited (I was maybe too late - who knows). Basically, they only had a pasta dish as a warm option, and fairly standard salads, also with no particular effort at veganizing them. Vegan dessert options - again, fairly limited, mainly apple sauce and other fruit purees. They did have a variety of vegan cakes and muffins. The food I ended up having was pretty good, though. Good to have a place like this in the city centre.

Oookay - Edit
I have to say that I find Iden to be relatively expensive (you pay per weight and if you have a simple plate of potatoes you pay a good amount, just because they are kinda heavy) and it has a canteen-atmosphere to it. Beside this the food is ok, mostly hearty and not super-finely spiced or so. Home cooking.

Veg Food (the 80ies way) - Edit
Whenever I eat at Iden, it is kind of a time travel back to the 80ies, when my parents used to demonstrate to the save the German forest from dying and we ate nothing but unripe spelt grain - but with lots of creamy sauce! All environmentalist, but may-be not that healthy.
Read moreThis restaurant has all the raw and vegetarian food you can ask for and choose from, as well as vegan options (which are clearly indicated on small signs alongside each dish). If you take a bite of everything, it will make your plate rather expensive, as they weigh the food at the cash point.
You will also need a little luck to find a place alongside Stuttgart's senior citizens - especially during lunch hours and on Saturdays. But it's definitely worth the try.
Pros: Splendid salad bar
Cons: Canteen atmosphere, old-fashioned

Great lunch option - Edit
The opening hours and the self-service are clear indicators that Iden is not meant to be the perfect restaurant for a romantic dinner. But for lunch it is an attractive option in Stuttgart.
Read moreYou take the food from a buffet. There are several dishes like risotto or potatoes au gratin and sides like boiled potatoes or pumpkin. You can choose freely, everything is weighted and costs the same (a bit more then 2 Euro per 100g in November 2014). Additional there are a soup, some deserts, and cakes. All dishes are labled with the ingredients (in German) and there are some vegan options. Depending on your appetite, you can eat for 8 to 16 Euros.
The food is tasty and does not taste like cafeteria food. It was not as warm as a dish served right from the kitchen, but it was ok.
Pros: close to city, great place for lunch, not expensive, ingrediants given dishes
Cons: more cafeteria then restaurant

Decent place to eat - Edit
Im not sure why most people have found this place hard to spot. It is fairly visible from the main road. The other side is located in a external courtyard. As others have said, the food is cafeteria like and some of the food was good but a few things were just okay. Vegan labelled but not that many included hot items. Centrally located. Was cheap too (or maybe that was because I had come from Switzerland?)

Iden, Stuttgart - Edit
This place is centrally located but is set back off the road - its visible from only a small part of the street.
Read moreThe first thing to strike me about this place inside is it is pretty big. There must be 100 seats in there for customers.
Its a cafeteria style set up where you grab a tray and help yourself to whats on offer then pay by weight. The selection of salads is massive. The hot food is geared largely towards lacto-ovo veggies bet there was a couple of dishes labelled vegan when I was in there. There is a separate coffee bar inside.
If you go there and its closed vegi voodoo king is less than 5 mins walk away and is open longer hours.
Pros: Central, Open long hours, vegan veggie friendly
Cons: Not the biggest choice for vegan veggies

Not Bad - Edit
The restaurant is a basic cafeteria style bar/buffet. It's a bit on the pricey side -- the food is weighed (I believe it's somewhere between 6-10 Euro per 100 grams). The staff is very friendly, and was more than willing to walk through the buffet with me and point to the vegan options. The food was not bad, but it was certainly not the best vegetarian restaurant I've come across in Germany.

Good - Edit
A nice buffet hot dishes, salad and dessert. Vegan items are marked. The food was pretty good, but a tad bit "cafeteria-esque." FYI: It's set back away from the street a little bit, (behind the escalators) I almost didn't find it.
