Fancy vegan

This was a nice restaurant with a good atmosphere. Pleasant and friendly staff. Food options were exactly my taste. They had a yummy butternut squash/mushroom risotto and tiramisu. fresh and well presented. If you are looking for nice place for dinner this is it. Just be prepared to pay, bit pricey.

Pros: Lots of great dishes. , Friendly staff

Cons: Bit expensive

Glad it’s here

So glad this veg restaurant is in Newport. Only thing tarnishing the vegan status is honey. Best ambience of all the Cafe Gratitude locations I’ve been to. On the menu note: I’ve been to four other Cafe Gratitudes and they are all equally expensive but this menu just wasn’t as good cuisine-wise, sorry to say. House-made ginger ale was a highlight. Hyper pop ambient music.

Pros: Great ambience, Location

Cons: Bad music, Expensive, Menu missed the mark

Amazing food, attentive service

I wish they’d open up one of these in Hong Kong. Obviously very convenient to have a fully vegan menu, but even better the options seemed quite healthy. I ordered the Zucchini Hummus and Mexican Bowl. Both were awesome. The atmosphere is also airy and pleasant.

creative vegan cuisine

as someone else mentioned, like the Venice location, the Newport Beach location, is heavy on cooked food. the main reason that I travelled out of my way to eat at gratitude was for the raw food options. that said, this is still an excellent vegan restaurant -the best in Newport. they do offer tasty raw options. so. it's definitely recommended.

Pros: vegan, raw options, excellent service

Cons: pricey

I am Grateful

The Newport Beach location lacks the plentitude of raw dishes that Cafe Gratitude is usually known for in Northern California. The to-go section is worthwhile since a single purchase is too expensive. This way, I would avoid spending more if I had tipped from their restaurant section. The staff do not ask at every purchase to see if there is existing membership with the Cafe Gratitude loyalty rewards. Be sure to ask about it.

Pros: Serves juice to-go, Vegan options, A raw meal option

Cons: Serves alcohol, Requires the membership card rather than phone #, Too much processed food options

Delicious creative dishes

Flavorful and filling food. Our non vegan guests said the enchiladas here are better than the ones at a popular Mexican restaurant. Wonderful service and ambiance.

Pros: imaginative dishes, great Mexican and Indian entrees, ambiance

Cons: some food too oily, no dessert window

Excellent Nachos

It is all vegan and not vegetarian as it shows on the HappyCow app.

I would say it's $$$ to $$$$ not $$.

great vegan food

Really enjoyed the food. I could eat whatever I wanted from the menu without worrying about dairy or meat - such a change. Sat outside under the shade of the canopy and the olive tree. Very friendly and relaxed service too. My only negative was that $100 for two for lunch seemed a bit high but overall great experience and imaginative menu.

Pros: all vegan, wide selection, imaginative

Cons: a bit expensive

Gratitude To-Go

I was looking for a place to grab some quick, vegan breakfast food in Newport Beach before heading to LA for the day. I wasn't having much luck until I stumbled across Gratitude. They are listed as vegetarian on Happy Cow because they use honey in some of their products, mostly just in their teas. So when I was searching for a place on Happy Cow and only selected Vegan, Gratitude did not come up. As a last resort I clicked vegetarian, and after reading the reviews for this place and seeing that they do not use eggs or dairy in their food, I decided to give it a shot. I do not consume honey/bee products, so I just asked once I was there to clarify which products I could not have.

I went to the Gratitude To-Go counter and the staff was extremely friendly. I was in a hurry so I decided not to order anything from the real menu but just order some baked goods from the counter instead. I ordered the cinnamon roll, banana bread, and a slice of pumpkin-maple cake. The prices were a little steep, my bill came out to 20 something dollars for three pastries, but I couldn't find any vegan breakfast during the week anywhere else so I couldn't really complain.

As for the food, it was pretty good. All of their baked goods are gluten-free which is great because many people don't eat gluten, however, I do. The baked goods were definitely better than a lot of other gluten-free, vegan baked goods that I've had in the past, but they definitely weren't as good as a vegan, non-gluten-free item would've been. I would definitely go back and eat there again but maybe try to order off the actual menu if I'm not in a hurry. The food that I saw other customers eating looked really good.

Pros: Gluten-free options, Friendly Staff, Clean

Cons: Pricey, No non-gluten-free versions of baked goods

OC Go-To

I may be biased, as the staff at Gratitude recognize me. The atmosphere is very cool, great for a multitude of social gatherings from dinner with friends, happy hour, or a special occasion (I celebrated my birthday here).

The staff is always friendly, though at times service can be slow. Sometimes this is nice, because I never want to feel rushed through dinner. Its great when they time everything right so you get to enjoy your appetizer before the entree is set in front of you.

Yes, the prices are a bit high, especially for the small plates, but for the most part the entrees are justified in terms of pricing vs portion.

Try to go for happy hour if you want to try a new entree; they're half off!

Here are a few favorites: Fierce (appetizer - the menu description is a bit confusing but just get it because its phenomenal), Humble (entree - Indian style bowl), Committed (entree - portobello mushroom bbq sandwich with the best roasted sweet potatoes ever...ask for the tomato jam on the side instead of ketchup), Giving (entree - seasonal pizza, always terrific), Stunning (dessert - just order it).

There are only two dishes I ordered and didn't care for: the Magical and Resolved. But hey, they could have had an off night. A note about the salads: they are not entree sized, so don't order if you are ravenous. The Kale Cesear (Dazzling) is great, though.

Brunch is also on par, though this review is long enough!

This is my go-to spot whenever I can't decide what to eat, or if I want to introduce a non-vegan to amazing food that happens to be vegan. Definitely check this place out, and sign up for their loyalty program!

Pros: Excellent Food, Great atmosphere, Extensive menu

Cons: Sometimes slow service, A bit pricey

Grateful!

Gratitude is now in Newport Beach! Just like its LA counterpart, Cafe Gratitude, the restaurant offers full vegan cuisine with the exception of some menu items that contain honey. There is also a smaller section of the venue called Gratitude To-Go for more casual dining or pick-up meals. I enjoyed the eggplant panini with cashew ricotta and marinara sauce. There are many sandwiches, salads and large entrees plus baked goods, desserts and a little shop that sells books and other small items. Valet parking is available, which you'll need during peak hours. It is now among my top three favorite Orange County restaurants.

Pros: Variety of menu items , Separate To-go area for easy pick up , Beautiful baked goods
