Decent spot for vegan food staples

Lots of bulk items, good selection of produce and basic groceries. One freezer is all vegan.

Staff very friendly and super helpful and knowledgeable.

Stopped in for a few items while here for Xmas. Definitely will go back in the future!

Good prices, many vegan items

Good selection of products, many vegan choices, some bulk-food bins, a produce section at the back, some vegan cheeses in the chiller with the dairy cheeses. Good healthfood shop. Annual membership is $20, but you can buy a three-month membership for $5, if you’re in town temporarily.

Great place to shop!

Wonderful selection, I buy my organic beans every few months from these guys, lots of organic tofu and vegan options!

Pros: Selection, Service, Bulk foods

Cons: Parking, if I have to pick something

A great place for staples and produce

I rely on Steep Hill for about 3/4 of my food. They get a lot of produce year-round, though sadly only once per week (get there Mondays or you might miss out on some stuff). They provide a lot of local produce, including eggplants, cukes, and tomatoes way earlier in the year than possible in a conventional garden. There is a seasonal component, so lots of cherries, grapes, and other fruits in the summer (also in the off-seasons but fewer options).

Lots of tasty sweets, fair-trade chocolate, candies, ice desserts (coconut-based, soy-based).

Nuts, seeds, dried fruits, canned goods (chilis, soups, beans), dry bulk goods (organic rice, oatmeal, etc.), tofu, tempeh, organic juices...

I notice that some find it expensive, but if you ask to see what the wholesale prices are, you will see that they aren't marked up very high. It's true that it's not cheap food, but I find it to be very reasonable considering it has a lot of local and organic products.

Pros: Very locally focused, It's an actual co-op, Trying to cut down on plastic

Cons: Not the cheapest food (though organic never is)

Disappointment on Broadway

While I realize that the staff are mostly volunteers just in to get their hours so they don't have to pay a bunch extra on top of high prices, the level of rude behavior is completely outrageous. If a cashier/salesperson acted like that at a 7/11, a grocery store or a gift shop, they would be fired immediately.

As to prices, 25% on top of already high prices is ridiculous. I was most disappointed to find that their local, organic products are 3-4 times as expensive as the supermarket and at least twice as pricey as a farmer's market. If you live on any kind of budget, choose carefully at Superstore adn wash well.

Pros: selection, local

Cons: rude staff, high prices
