A lot of times one can get a balanced meal if the soup has beans. Some staff are keen on giving garbanzos to replace cheese of salads. The soups are labeled dairy free and vegetarian so vegan is df and v. This is because eggs are assumed to be in no soups which is true at this establishment.
I had a piece of meat in a soup once, the manager responded appropriately and was sincerely concerned. It still is a risk though.
Spoons has several location around Fort Collins and is definitely the best vegan option on the CSU campus. They have at least one vegan soup each day and it's usually good. Their website lists ingredients for many items, including the bread (vegan) and salad dressings--check out the ingredients before you go. Soups are typically labeled if they are vegetarian and dairy-free. Currently on campus, $6.25 gets you soup, a salad, bread, and a drink--a pretty good deal.
You definitely don't get what you pay for at Spoons. They are over priced and you only get a tiny little meal. I'd rather go to Spicy Pickle or Whole Foods for a good veggie sandwich.
This place actually has two locations, one on campus and one in old town. I find myself in Spoons at least 3 times a week as they are the most vegan-friendly place on campus. They always offer a dressed salad that is vegan and at LEAST 1 vegan soup (often 2, sometimes 3). They claim the bread is vegan...but I question that. For 6 bucks you get a drink, a salad, a bowl of soup, and a piece of bread. Extremely filling.
