Serves meat, vegan options available. Indian cuisine in a modern environment with booth seating and several televisions playing Bollywood films. Opened summer 2013. Menu includes an extensive vegetarian section, around 11 choices at lunch and 20 at dinner. Uses dairy, so vegans must ask. NOTE: May 2018 closed, with plans to re-locate.

Selection small, but delicious food - Edit
I agree with the previous post about the extensive vegetarian menu and limited vegan menu, as well as the great prices. I am going to give 4 stars because of how helpful the staff is, and how delicious the food is!
Read moreI've been here probably 5 or 6 times, and jump back and forth between the vegan items. The food is dependably tasty, and the vegetarians and meat-eaters who dine with me are also always impressed. That makes Sitara a great place to bring a group, where everyone can find something to eat.
Additionally, the ambiance is unique because the space is a historic bar turned pizza place turned Indian restaurant. The color scheme is nice, and the booth and bar seating gives Sitara a fun-yet-elegant vibe.
I also want to compliment the staff--I have vegan friends who have called ahead to ensure there are vegan menu items, and we are also accommodated when we visit. The staff are friendly and eager to discuss the menu and make recommendations.
The location in downtown Urbana is great, and it's a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I'm glad to see they are doing well, and I hope more vegans visit and request dishes -- perhaps that will help them expand their menu!
Pros: Delicious food, Vegan options, Variety for everyone
Cons: Limited vegan dishes

Great Selection for Vegetarians, Vegan not so much - Edit
My girlfriend and I came to Sitara because it just opened and a friend of ours from India swore it was the best indian food in town and very authentic for an american restaurant.
Read moreThey had an extensive vegetarian menu, by far the largest section on the menu with 11 options at lunch and 20 at dinner. unfortunately there was surprisingly few vegan options. i asked the waiter which items were or could be vegan and found only 2 at dinner (though there may have been one more under the rice dish section but i didn't look). the menu does clearly display what general ingredients are in their curry sauces and tomato sauces which is nice, but unfortunately one contains yogurt and the other butter, and most everything is in either a tomato or curry sauce.
still with such a large focus on their vegetarian menu i have to recommend it to any vegetarian. the food was great, i ordered the aloo gobi, a cauliflower and potato dish and we got samosas. both were flavorful and delicious. i would probably return because the food was really good (and very affordable at 8.99 for dinner - only 5.99 for lunch!) but because of only a few options, i won't go here that often.
i would love to love this place, i hope they expand their menu to include more vegan dishes in the future.
Pros: Authentic Cuisine, Upscale Atmosphere
Cons: Few Vegan Choices, Televisions
