I was really excited to finally visit this place after hearing about it forever. The location was a little hard to find, but not too bad (our GPS led us right past the road it was on and we had to backtrack a bit).
Their ice cream was absolutely delicious, everyone in the party had to go back inside and order a second portion after finishing the first one. It felt so great to be able to go out and get ice cream with my family like I used to do as a kid. This was my first time having cashew-based ice cream and I think it's probably my favorite non-dairy dessert I've tried yet. It's rich, creamy, and no strong aftertaste like you sometimes get with coconut-based desserts.
I also really liked that they offer classic snacks like chik'n tenders and fries. (The tenders were just gardien, nothing fancy, but still hit the spot.)
My one qualm- and the reason I'm docking a star- is that this isn't an all-vegan establishment as I'd been led to believe. They offered us a choice between milk or dark chocolate dip for our ice cream bars. This was surprising to me, and also really kind of strange- who wants to eat non-dairy ice cream coated in dairy? It was just overall very odd, and I don't think they should be listed as an all-vegan establishment on here, even if it's only one item.
Like I said, the ice cream is great, and it's definitely the closest thing to an all-vegan version of the rural ice cream stands from my youth. I'll probably be returning next time I'm in the area. But c'mon, guys- ditch the dairy! Your customers won't miss it.
Great little nut-based ice cream shop next to Heritage Farm Pancake House. They have premade bars, or you can get a mixed cup, where you choose vanilla or chocolate as a base, then you can mix in different fruits, nuts, chocolates, and candies. They also have a couple food items, like vegan meatballs, vegan chicken fingers, and regular, sweet potato, or waffle fries. Worth the stop!
This place is amazing! I cant recommend this ice cream enough, it tastes so creamy and delicious. I had the blueberry maple and the blueberry, raspberry, strawberry mixed together and I loved them both to the moon! The portions are generous and the atmosphere is friendly!
Make the trip!!! Most vegan ice cream leaves something to be desired but this was unbelievably good. Owned by a former dairy farmer turned vegan, this place has a choice of soft serve with mix ins or ice cream pops you can dip in chocolate. Flavors are endless. Veg News needs to write about this one.
If you are in the area, check this place out. Vegan burgers, fried pizza, chicken tenders, etc all vegan! And cashew based ice cream with the option to dip in chocolate. This place is like an old fashioned ice cream stand, but vegan. Definitely a family place, and so good. Go here!
Such a great location and hidden gem full of vegan goodies! Friendly service and gorgeous view as well! Going to make this a regular stop on the way to the white mountains!
Gluten free and vegan ice-cream in lots of different flavours also dipped in vegan chocolate, so creamy and it didnt make me feel ill afterwards as some v gf ice cream have in the past. Brilliant find on vacation in NH
Gourmet Vegan Ice Cream in the Lakes Region - Edit
As a long-time part-time vegan to Meredith, NH, I have to admit that there are moments when I have wished that the various soft-serve ice cream shoppes or creameries of my childhood were outmatched by vegan counterparts beyond commercial supermarket pints or the one flavor at the Ben & Jerry's in the Mills Falls Marketplace. Looking online this visit, I was surprised to see Rock Salt Creamery doing cashew-based ice cream in style in Sanbornton and took the family for a short country drive to visit. Apparently, the days before we arrived there had just been some significant local TV press and the shop had been cleared out of some flavors and mix-in ingredients--not ideal, but understandable. But three chocolate-dipped bars later, and a mix-in dish of chocolate with walnuts and almonds (pecans were out), the family couldn't have been more pleased. Ingredients are fresh and organic. There are waffle cones. Also, it is not cash only as described. They have a square system for credit cards. A family operation and it lacked some of the tight business practice that you might find in the big city, but a wonderful addition to the lakes region of a family that is trying to walk its talk, live healthy, and teach people in the area about healthy food.
I had a weird experience here. It's on a farm, and it was pretty dead. The place itself is really cute from the outside and has that farm feel. However, when I walked in there was one woman working there and she seemed confused that I was there. I asked if they were open and she said yes. I looked around and it looked like it was just ice cream bars so I asked her if there were other options and she said just bars and cups. So I went over to the freezer to get a cup and I chose peanut butter cup. When I went to pay for it I asked for a spoon and she didn't have one. No spoons?? At an ice cream place?? It was so weird. She called to her colleague asking if he had any spoons and he went in the back room to check and the lady said they usual just use the small wooden spoons and i said that was fine so I took that and left. As I was pulling out of the parking lot the man who went looking for spoons ran out with a handful of plastic spoons and gave me one. The ice cream was delicious, but very expensive for a small amount, and similar to something I could get at the grocery store
Really good vegan cashew ice cream located on a farm in Sanbornton NH. You heard that right. People at Hertidge Farm are always incredibly helpful and friendly. Playground on site and farm animals for feeding and petting. Only down side is they mostly have homemade ice cream bars not scoops and cones. The bars come in a variety of different flavors though, usually more then 10! Plus they will dip them in chocolate, if you like! It would be nice if they had sundaes and cones, but I'll take vegan ice cream anyway you want to deliver it.
