Laffa is No Laughing Matter...

It's serious, but limited "Good Eats" here for Vegans. Formerly the Garbanzo restaurant, Laffa Mediterranean Grill was opened by the same owners of the Garbanzo about a year ago.

Elizabeth helped me customize my order, so I could enjoy a really great meal. After I overheard her describing the Israeli salad to the customer ahead of me, I just had to try it! So, she substituted it for the usual Basmati rice in our falafel plate. Now it's my new favorite salad in Ventura. It's also interesting to know that they don't use mayonnaise in their coleslaw, so it's very vegan.

This is the place to come for pita bread. Elizabeth told us it comes from a local bakery. The wheat pita was the highlight of my "Pita Sabich" sandwich with fried eggplant, which I thought was good. I had it without the hardboiled egg, but next visit I'm definitely going with the Falafel Pita Sandwich. I had a bite of one off my husband's Falafel plate and it was so moist and delicious. Not your regular falafel.

My husband, A.K.A. "Hummus is my middle name" said, "I never met a hummus I didn't like.... until now." He feels that comment is not only very "apropros," but shows his notorious connoisseurs' ability as well. While I didn't dislike the hummus, I think the tahini was better.

In short, I can see myself dash in for a quick side of the Israeli salad quite often. And, hopefully I will be back very soon to try the falafel pita sandwich!

Pros: Very friendly staff, Limited but good vegan offerings, A punch card app for free food

Cons: Hummus is too different for us, Menu offerings are greatly reduced, Nothing else
