A Great Little Place

The concierge Clyde at our hotel phoned ahead to check that they were still open and then got us a taxi which dropped us at the end of the lane for this place. As in the photo there is a sign in English saying 'Vegetarian'. The menu does have English names but does not say if anything contains egg, milk or honey and not speaking Mandarin we couldn't ask. We ate here both nights and it was busy both times. The first night I wasn't blown away by what we had but we rushed our choices as it was near closing. We had some sesame noodles which were nice, nothing special, the spring rolls were delicious (had them both nights), the tofu with mushrooms was old tofu, it has a very different taste if you're used to regular tofu, I'm not a fan. The tempeh with peppers and bitter melon was quite nice and something different. On the second night we ordered the mixed brown rice with peanuts and chickpeas, sweet and sour pork which was good and spicy potatoes which were really tasty with just the right level of heat as neither of us have a high spice tolerance. We had the pumpkin oat rolls which were sweet and tasty, even better cold the next day with the burrito on the train home. The staff were friendly, the place was clean and I asked the girl if they had a second location, she said no this is the only one, so not sure about that other listing.

Pros: Tasty unusual dishes., Reasonable prices.

Cons: Unclear if items are vegan.

Good restaurant

The reviews are quite old, but I am happy to report that this restaurant is still open. It isn't hard to find when you find the street! It isn't on the third floor of a building, it's directly ont the street.

The price are also up from what the first review says (we paid between 100 yuan to 140 yuan per meal for two).

Food is good, sometimes the dishes miss, but often are very good! Staff is nice, but English isn't easy. They do have an english menu and a chinese one with pictures.

Great!

This small, but wonderful, little restaurant is somewhat hard to find but worth the effort. The food was great and the staff were friendly.

Really good vegetarian Restaurant!
By now it has two locations. One in an old hutong (this is the one listed above) and a new one in a shopping district on Xianxi Alley not far from it.
The telephone numbers are:
0531 - 86090415
0531 - 86080413
respectively.
I've only been to the newer one, which is hard to find, since its very hidden on the 3rd floor of this "shopping district" but it is totally worth trying to find it.
The dishes are inexpensive (20-60Kuai) and really good! Their main dish is a sichuan style vegetable mix (Potatos, mushrooms, peppers, doufu, beans) which easly can be shared by 4 people.
Other good dishes are the veggie dumplings and fried rosepedals. The staff is super friendly and they even have a roof terrace which is amazing in summer.
The place became pretty popular lately so phoning ahead is always a good idea.

Pros: "Experimental" dishes, Inexpensive, great locations

Cons: hard to find
