Delightful afternoon tea - Edit
It's basically impossible to find a vegan afternoon tea in Taichung unless you go to a Veganday Cafe or Cuisine, but Veganday Cuisine only offers its afternoon tea set on weekends, whereas Veganday Cafe does it daily (all-day on weekdays, 14:00-16:00 on weekends). One of my four party members missed his bus, so he didn't arrive until about 25 minutes after our reservation. We waited till about five minutes before he got there to order two afternoon tea sets, but then we were told that it would take at least 30 minutes to put them together. I'm not sure why it took so long, but you can imagine what that hour-long wait felt like.
Read moreWhen the drinks and the sets finally came out (together, not drinks first), we were impressed with the variety and quality of desserts available on the double-decker. I thought the pressed tea sandwiches were better than any of the cold ones I had in London. The scones were delicious, as was the coconut pudding. Some of the fresh fruit was not in good condition, however: for instance, one of the cherry tomatoes was starting to show mold where the stem was. But the apple pies, matcha cupcake, and tiramisu were top-notch.
I really enjoyed my rose soymilk tea, which was not too sweet and had a delicate rose fragrance. I was told that the ginger soymilk tea did not have a strong enough ginger flavor, but the vanilla soymilk tea was excellent.
Each afternoon tea set is portioned for two and costs NT$499. Also, each set includes a NT$130 drink credit per person. I would not be able to afford this normally, but since our master program director was treating us, it was not an issue that day.
I have eaten here once last year and enjoyed the tofu moussaka, but again, the service is very slow, and I think the menu is quite expensive, so I wouldn't come here very often.
Pros: excellent tea sandwiches, great drinks
Cons: slow service, expensive

Good vegan cafe - Edit
I went their to try sweets they have after dinner. The cafe is a bit off from the main street.
Read moreTiramisu was not the best I had. B's waffle was crunchy and delicious.
Hazelnut tea was a bit too sweet to drink with those sweets.
The cafe is furnished beautifully.
Everything they serve is vegan so it's a plus.
Overall, I enjoyed trying sweets there

Cosy Vegan Cafe - Edit
Cosy, mid-range, with savory and sweets on menu as well as a long list of drinks, we had the fruit waffle, tiramisu and two soy milks (both hot).
Read moreThe waffle itself was delicious, but the selection of fruit toppings was a bit odd (a slice of apple, two halves of a grape and tiny piece of kiwi), the ice cream topping was delicious, so were the tiramisu and drinks.
Staff were very friendly and spoke some English. Menu is available in English as well.

Very good waffles - Edit
I had the matcha waffle with ice cream, which was very delicious! Also tried the tiramisu cake and the chocolate cake. The cakes were good but not the best cakes I’ve had. They are also very heavy and super sweet. The coconut milk pudding was just so so, wouldn’t buy again. If I come I would only order the waffles. The cafe is super cute and has a cool design!

great sweets, lunch not so much - Edit
had a nice lunch here! my friend and i both had pasta and they tasted ok, but came with the same vegetables, so all that was different was the sauce which i would have imagined different for two different dishes.
Read moresoup was nice. sweets were great! the combo deal with soup, drink and dessert is good value for money! i guess i just wish the main dish tasted a little more special for the price paid.
Pros: lovely sweets, great service
Cons: lunch options just ok and very similar

cute vegan cafe - Edit
Went here on two different days: on the first I came in too late for ordering a meal (past 8pm, they close at 8:30) but the staff were nice enough to get my order of the vegan cheese risotto to go anyway. I had the risotto and tiramisu and both were really good: especially loved the tiramisu
Read moreAnother time I got the shepherd’s pie with rice as a meal set (came with soup, a drink and dessert). The pie is a little light on salt but it’s still delicious
Staff are really lovely. They have an English menu and I think the staff speak English too.

Vegan tiramisu is heaven. - Edit
This vegan cafe is sooo cute and the desserts are delicious. The tiramisu was the most delicious vegan dessert I've ever had. It was around 90NT. I also had be cashew pesto pasta, it was delicious but a little small portion for 180NT. Seriously do not miss the desserts if you are in Taichung. Also staff is lovely!

Comfort food, great vibes - Edit
Perfect place to hang out, enjoy dessert and warm your tummy with comfort food. Minimum order of 180 NTD or a beverage. It was worth the price to me, given how long I stayed there with my laptop and how much I was craving Western food. So many vegan desserts to choose from! There are some electrical outlets, the chairs are very comfortable, and there’s free self-serve water.

Veganday cafe - lovely! - Edit
Lucky to have had this place right around the corner from my hotel, the spinach cashew risotto is to die for, the soup was supernice (and so cutely presented) and the cupcake soy matcha latte just topped it off perfectly (everything for 330) - cute place and nice atmosphere, superfriendly staff! Even though it is not the cheapest it is def worth going! They have a minimum table charge of 180 or one beverage.

Great atmosphere - Edit
Bluesomeone has a very cozy feel to it. The staff are lovely and helpful. I got the moussaka, and was slightly disappointed. As a whole it was quite bland, but after getting some salt and pepper it was tastier. I would recommend trying something else, as their menu is extensive and the dishes all looked amazing.

Love this - Edit
Cozy place, friendly staffs, everything is must-try. The last time I was there by myself posting the picture on Facebook of me having a great time and just mentioning my birthday is coming. Noticing that post the staffs gave me some cookies as a birthday present when I was about to leave! I was so so surprised! It was very thoughtful and sweet of them to do this!

Great Set Dinner - Edit
While I’m Taichung for 3 nights me and my girlfriend are here twice. The set meal was excellent value for money and the food was extremely good, particularly the tiramisu. The staff were friendly and the cold coffees were also really nice.

Really nice, cute little establishment. Staff speak English pretty well! Had a dinner set- soup, shepherds pie, hot chocolate and a lemon tart. Total cost $410NT. All food was really good, friendly service. More of a fine-dining option in the area. Note that they close at 8:30.

Cozy cafe! - Edit
It’s a rly tiny vegan cafe & is rly cozy and welcoming! The staff were super ready to help & everything on the menu looked super delicious. I only had time to get a few sweet treats, however if I could afford more time, I would definitely try the other main dishes. The matcha and chocolate cookies I got were crunchy and had great texture! However, the cafe was a little hard to locate. Note the signage says Vegan Day (& not bluesomeone’s vegan cafe), so just keep your eyes peeled. ☺️

Cute little retro cafe in Taichung - Edit
Had the tomato pasta, matcha cake and fruit juice as a set. Affordable, worth the money and not overly salty or anything like that!! If I am in Taichung for more than a day I would have come back for sure ☺️ waitress was Super cute and nice as well! I can read and speak mandarin but their menu had English in them so it's good for Those who can't speak the language x

nice cakes - Edit
The restaurant is really cute and they gave us water at the moment we came. The staff speak some english. It was easy to order but it took them FOREVER to bring us coffee and cakes... i had to wait almost 20 minutes for my coffee. And we were the only people there so they have no reason to be that slow... anyways the cakes were good and the coffee was nice.

A Vegan's Heaven - Edit
Went to this cafe on a Saturday afternoon ... 24/6/17
Read moreThere were 5 of us in total
Spent NT$ 780 (or RM 112.50) on 4 beverages and 3 desserts
I ordered :
1) Vanilla Soymilk Tea
- this is pretty good, very refreshing in contrast to the summer heat outside
- loved the metal straw which is a rare sight haha...
2) Chocolate Cake w Pumpkin Mousse
- the pumpkin taste is virtually unnoticeable, but I enjoyed it tremendously
- it tasted exactly the same (...if not better) as the real cake made with eggs/dairy
3) B's Waffle w Soy Ice Cream
- funny fruits combination I'd say : grapes, kiwis, and apples (which were not very generous in quantity...in my opinion)
- for some reason, the ONE-scoop soy ice cream melted too quickly to be savoured slowly (I really ought to thank the waiter there for reminding me about the ice cream's fragility)
- on the bright side, the waffle was exceptionally delish and fragrant and crisp
If I ever travel to Taichung again, I'd definitely try out the shepherd's pie, risotto, and quiche in one sitting (no remorse!)
P.S. There is a minimum spend of NT$ 180 or any beverage per person, so be wary of this policy beforehand

Slightly disappointed - Edit
I wanted to try this place on my trip to Taichung based on all the excellent reviews. I had a hot chocolate, a moussaka and a matcha cupcake. The soup that was served as entrée was great, but I had a difficult time finishing the moussaka. It was made with rice instead of potatoes, and while I don't consider myself overly traditional when it comes to cooking, it tasted quite bland, it reminded me very little of a moussaka. The tofu had no flavor and neither did the top layer of cream.
Read moreThe menu in general seemed to be composed of 'european'-style dishes. Why waste time on mediocre versions of western dishes when the local vegan cuisine is so delicious?
Nevertheless, Bluesomeone is a cozy cafe worth visiting.

Simple and feelibg - Edit
Bluesomeone's menu is limited but it will get the job done! With a small dinning area, about 8 tables or so, the restaurant has a simple menu that's all vegan. It's usually advised to get the set including, soup, a drink, entree and dessert. The desserts are not to be missed! If you live in the Taichung area or will be visiting for a little while, Bluesomeone's does sell vegan from a refrigerated chase right by the front door. Enjoy!

Lovely vegan spot in Central Taichung - Edit
We love this cozy little spot and have been back twice in two days already, and we probably go again before we leave. Partly because there are little other vegan options in the centre of Taichung where we are staying near the station, but mostly because it's a very sweet place to have a drink and a bite to eat. We have tried a few flavours of the hot soy lattes (very velvety foamed milk, yum!) some cupcakes (faultless) and the quiche (nicer than anything I've made myself that's for sure!).

BLUESOME IS AWESOME - Edit
This place is full of the cutest people and nicest foods you can imagine. It is in line with current Taiwanese cross-over styles of traditional Chinese culture mixed with Japanese and European influences that you can find at small start-ups in food, textile and assecory retail all over the unique and beatiful island. Service is friendly and quick, food features great variety and is beautifully served&decorated! As the other reviewers mentioned, A MUST SEE IN TAICHUNG!!
