Saint Angela Merici was an Italian religious leader and saint who founded the Order of Ursulines in 1535 in Brescia.

In 1768 Merici was beatified by Clement XIII. In 1807 she canonized by Pius VII. Merici is buried in the Church of St. Afra at Brescia and her Catholic feast day is January 27.
