A little overhyped but still solid

It was good food but I think my expectations were inflated by the reviews. Also the portion sizes were disappointing given the price. I did enjoy my meal though.

Underwhelmed

I was really excited to try this place. Maybe I was just unlucky.

My order was very bland. It also tastes soapy. Not a flavor I’m used to having in my food and I eat A LOT of vegan food all over the world.

The most depressing thing about the meal is how little you get for a $22 plate. I left and literally went directly to another restaurant to eat again. I ate my entire plate of Alfredo and it was like nothing.

I would try this place again because clearly they are making food that a lot of people like. Maybe my expectations were just too high.

Delicious, healthy whole food plant-based meals!

Went here while visiting SLC and got the jalapeño poppers and superfood protein salad (half-size). The portion size was excellent for the price and the salad was especially delicious! No need to give up flavor when eating healthy. Would definitely recommend!

Great options

Many great options to choose from. Although they had items sold out or not available that evening, the plates we ate are delicious.

Pros: All vegan!, Delicious chocolate cake

Best in the Area

As a SLC vegan, Zest is the only vegan restaurant in the area fit for date night, celebration, or just treating yourself to a nice meal out. They got the food, the drinks and the vibes!

The dishes are creative and thoughtful, but you can't beat the classics like the nachos. Almost everything is made in-house, and you can choose between more healthy fare like the superfood salad, or opt for a more "junk-food" option like the buffalo jackfruit pizza. The portions are good and the quality is high, so although it is on the pricy side, you really feel like you are getting your money's worth. Not only is the food amazing, but they serve delicious cocktails and the bartenders are always changing up the specials, my favorite drink is the Northern Lights. The restaurant is also no longer 21+, so families are welcome. They also have a separate brunch menu that they serve almost everyday. Just gotta share my love for this place!

Favorite dishes: almond masala brussel sprouts, stuffed mushrooms, nachos, mushroom pho, samosa burger, jerk jackfruit plate, chocolate beet torte, carrot cake

Pros: Excellent Food, Great for date night/nice vibe, Yummy cocktails

Cons: Sometimes options are out of stock, no longer 21+

Great spot for a nice dinner

2024: Upgrading my review from 2 stars to 5. I do not at all remember having eaten here before, and didn’t notice that I’d already left a review a few years back until the following day. I’ll leave my original review below, but our meal this time around was fantastic. Maybe the take-out just wasn’t as good as dining in, or they’ve stepped their game up a lot. In any event, a bit on the expensive side, but everything was very tasty, and a meat-eater could definitely have a good meal here as well. Nachos stood out on the appetizer front if you’re looking for something to share!

—————————

2020: Didn’t live up to expectations

I definitely commend this place for making a chic vegan restaurant, and I’m sure the establishment itself is a cool spot (we got takeout). That said, the food is only...so-so. It looks fantastic, and it’s creative, but it’s all a little bland and the flavors are weird. We tried 4 dishes and 3 were meh (though the fourth, an order of jalapeño poppers, was dank). I’ll note that I’ve never given a vegan restaurant less than 3 stars before, and I almost always give 4 or 5.

The meal was definitely a bit of a turn-off to vegan food as a whole for the carnist who ate it with me. I wouldn’t get food from here again I don’t think.

First bite was umami spice perfection

I only get a chance to come in here every once in a while because I live out of town but I am never disappointed. I ordered the mushroom pho and from the very first bite it had just a little bit of spice the hit of umami. I feel like I sensed some lemongrass. The bean sprouts were perfect as was the rice noodles. On a cold day like today. This warmth just makes me feel like the best human on the planet. Thank you, Zest kitchen!

Pros: Beautiful presentation, Such fresh veggies, Satisfying and delicious!

Want to love it

My times here have been inconsistent, and I give it more chances due to the fact i support all vegan business. I think some things on their menu rock and others don’t suit my tastebuds. Service has been similar to my food experience. 50/50 but still support!

Pros: Atmosphere , Vegan and GF

Cons: Inconsistency , Prices

Oh my--delicious!

We loved the Buffalo pizza with jackfruit, the nachos and the hazlenut torte. We're taking home the protein salad and carrot cake for dinner. Yummy. So many enticing choices. Wish we lived here!

Yum!

I'm always ecstatic when I can find a vegan and gf restaurant! Zest has such a wide-range menu. It took so long for me to decide what to get. Everything was delicious! The desserts are amazing! Beware! They're huge! I struggled to finish mine but I managed because it was too good to waste! The staff was very friendly, too!

Really delicious

This was the closest vegan place to where I was staying in SLC so I went for dinner. Ordered a half protein salad with the sausage added in and the mushrooms and this was a huge amount of food! Really delicious and well made - mushrooms in particular were amazing!

Great food and great service

Glad this place now allows kids. I refused to go when it was 21 and over but now they are classified a restaurant, no longer a bar. Food was excellent. Maybe best carrot cake ever 😋 Portions for meals were on small side but were filling.

Great food with friendly service

Food was great and service was good. Definitely recommend the stuffed mushrooms, I would have been happy with ordering a few of those! Not suggested for those looking for a quick bite, patience is required.

Breakfast sandwich and carrot cake are what to order

I’ve had the breakfast sandwich, cheezy pasta, burrito bowl, and carrot cake. The sandwich and cake are fantastic. The pasta was plain, and the burrito bowl had undercooked potatoes. The vibe is nice, and the staff is friendly. I hope to come back someday.

A Vegan re-visiting Salt Lake City

While traveling to Salt Lake City, my co-worker and I were looking for a suitable place for me to eat. She is not a vegan, but is health conscious. The dinner was excellent and the food was plentiful and filling. She absolutely loved the meal, and so did I. I would definitely recommend this place.

Almost missed it

We almost missed this place as it was tucked behind P.J.Chang. I ordered the stuffed jalepenos for starter and jackfruit tacos for main. The food tasted good but the service felt a little hollow. Certainly a good option but doesn’t make me want to run back. We also had issues looking at the menu online (I think because we didn’t have American sims) and unfortunately there was no paper back up to view.
