Serves meat, vegan options available. The in-house menu clearly labels vegan dishes and ones that can be made vegan. Try the crispy tiger prawns made of soy protein. A major plus is that the vegan versions of some dishes include tofu as a substitute (rather than just leaving out the meat). Chef is happy to customize dishes for you; just ask. Located right at the entrance to Cheddar Gorge. Previously named Lao Thai Restaurant. Open Tue-Sun 17:00-22:00. Winter hours may vary in accordance with demand - call ahead.

Disappointing - Edit
They have a separate vegan menu that looks amazing and the service from the staff when we went in to order a takeaway was fantastic. The food however was dreadful spring rolls brought in with the tiniest pot of sweet chilli sauce I've ever seen. Tofu starter over fried in old oil couldn't eat it. Jasmine rice and coconut rice both good and a good size the curry was watery lacking flavour and over cooked veg. The tofu prik khing was over sweet and too spicy even though I was told it was mild. We didn't eat all the food it was just.nasty.

Spectacular food!!! - Edit
Excellent vegan options with owners and staff very accommodating. We had the spring rolls and Tom Kha soup (mixed vegetable) to start and red Thai and jungle curry (with tofu) as mains along with sticky rice and coconut rice. We were completely blown away by the options available and booked for another night in the same week!! Would love to give 5 stars if possible as it would be a push to find a better vegan dish locally!!

Looking forward to my takeaway Zen I saw the portions - Edit
Very expensive, £14.95 for a very small main course. I live in London so I’m used to paying over the odds but this place is ridiculous.

Fantastic Choice of Vegan and Gluten Free Meals - Edit
Contacted ZenThai to check they could cater for someone who is Coeliac, dairy intolerant, vegetarian and allergic to bell peppers......from start to finish the communication was prompt and informative. As the meals are cooked fresh they said it was no problem for them to adjust the menu to cater for me needs. The food was delicious, the atmosphere of the place as lovely, the staff were courteous and attentive.
Read moreAll in all I would have no problem in recommending this place to anyone and would certainly visit again. If I was able to I would have given this place 5 starts, but that is reserved for 100% vegan/vegetarian places.
Pros: Excellent food, Great value, Friendly staff

Fabulous all round - Edit
Would have given 5 if I could. Have a dedicated vegan menu, including starters and desserts. All the food was delicious. The service was great, friendly staff and very attentive. I highly recommend the banana fritters for dessert, it was insane 😍 plus the restaurant has a lovely vibe and nice decor, really nice for a special occasion!

Bitterly disappointed - Edit
We travelled over 3hrs tonight and booked in here as the website showed so many options!
Read moreI absolutely LOVE Thai curries... Green, massaman especially! It is our anniversary weekend and hubby picked here based on the menu online.
Sadly we were told all, ALL, curries are now NOT vegan due to the chef deciding they need fish sauce or shrimp bits to make them taste better.
Left on the mains menu was noddles, stirfry or fried rice. Ugh. For Thai curry loving me, 3.5hr drive with the promise of a green curry waiting for me.. .. I had 2 options cry or walk out! I ended up going for the rice as sloppy noodles in public us too messy! It stated spicy fried rice on the menu ... It was bland and oily in reality. To say I'm gutted is an understatement.
We walked past 2 Indians and a chinese so my advice is book one of those!
Pros: Ummmmmmm
Cons: Expensive and online menu is wrong. Very oily

Delicious! - Edit
Probably the best Thai food I've ever eaten. We're staying in Brinscombe and there's not a lot going on for vegans in the land of cheese and cider. We decided to get a takeaway from ZenThai after seeing the vegan options on the menu while walking in Cheddar gorge. The owner was very friendly and helpful, more than happy to go through what is vegan/can be made vegan. Food was ready quickly and was absolutely delicious. Just sad we discovered it on our last night here!

wonderful - Edit
We came here looking for something interesting to eat and thats what we got. The food was delicious, well presented and the vegetarian options were plentiful. I just wish we were spending more time in the area to try the whole menu! It was out of season so I cannot make full comments on service as it was a lot quieter than normal, but what we experienced the people were friendly and attentive.

Nice and Spicy! - Edit
I came here for dinner with friends recently, and was impressed! Despite being a week night, it was fairly busy, so a nice lively atmosphere... I had the Gang Ka Ri yellow curry from the Lao menu, the chef was happy to veganise it (has chicken normally)and it was really tasty and filling! The staff are very friendly. There were a number of vegan options on the menu (including "crispy tiger prawns" made of soy protein,I didn't try, but if I go back I'll definitely give these a go!)and dishes can be veganised if you ask nicely :) it's great that there's a restaurant offering vegan options in this area, as every other eatery here seems to be a tea-shop or a pub serving "traditionally British" meals (which of course to a vegan means chips and a side salad...). Go if you're in the area!
