Great while it lasted - Edit
The owner is good at what he does. Creating great, healthy vegan food.
Read moreThe staff was good, especially the long haired guy (Tim). Unfortunately the owner was a little weird, almost paranoid & projected & uncomfortable vibe.
The location (Roanoke city food market downtown) used to be booming but lost ALL appeal & most of it's customer base after it was closed for a year + to remodel. Between low foot traffic, high rent & sporadic open hours it never built a steady cust base & was forced to close.
Shame it closed. It was the only, 100% vegan/plant based restaurant within 100's of miles & the food was great
Pros: Quality, freshness, taste
Cons: Open hours, Hard to find parking, Portions on the small side

Blown Away - Edit
Food was amazing. I didn’t have high hopes going in because I’m ~newly vegan and haven’t had too many good experiences with meat substitutes but my opinions have surely changed since coming here. My boyfriend and I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak and the Cajun Fried “Chicken” subs after asking the cashier what she recommends and both were OUTSTANDING. I swear we had everything eaten in less than 5 minutes. We also ordered the french fries and the mac and cheese. The french fries were good, I can’t speak for the mac and cheese (I didn’t try it because I’m not a big fan of Daiya cheese). Overall would 10/10 recommend to anyone visiting the Roanoke area or in the Roanoke area. My only complaint is that it was a little hard to find but it was totally worth it and you really can’t be mad walking through the streets of downtown Roanoke. One of the best food places we visited on our vacation.

Can’t rate because they’re closed 😢 - Edit
I was told they just closed last weekend. Sad to see that and hope they may try again as more people change their eating preferences and it sure sounded like they had good food. Wishing them the best in the meantime.

Good food - Edit
I've lived in Roanoke for almost a year but I just recently visited ZeeZee's when some family came to town, including another vegan. The owner was the cashier and he seemed really friendly.
Read moreWe both got the vegetable stir fry, which was a good portion and delicious. I love that they use brown rice and there was a variety of veggies.
I would definitely go again. The owner seemed to suggest they haven't been getting the level of business he would like, so hopefully they stay in business.
Pros: All vegan , Healthy options, Good portions

Delicious - Edit
We got two lunch combos at $9.75 they both came with a drink and fries. We ordered to go/take out.
Read moreWe were really impressed by how affordable the food was.
Buffalo Philly Sub: the bun was delicious. I enjoyed the sandwich, I really liked the ranch. The Buffalo sauce was good also. I wasn't a huge fan of the mock chicken. I think I'll try a different option next time.
Kale Sub: The owner graciously allowed me to add extra kale, mushrooms and onions rather than get the bun. So I actually got a warm kale salad/sautéed kale. It was amazing! I will order this again and totally recommend it. The flavors blended so nicely. Really you wouldn't expect sautéed kale to be so flavorful. The cream/cheese sauce also added to the dish. Super Yummy. I hope she adds this to the menu.
Fries: they were okay. They tasted a bit like plastic possibly from a bag they were stored in. The seasoning salt was nice but we would have preferred more of it and for it to be evenly coated.
Seating: seating was plentiful as there are several food stalls and then a cafeteria type seating.
Restrooms: restrooms were public towards the left of the seating area (signage makes it easy to find). Sadly the restrooms were gendered and on opposite ends of the entrance.
Parking: We easily found street parking and walked less than a minute. The street parking was free.
Pros: Kale sub was amazing as a salad, Super affordable

I drove all the way from Newport News VA to sample this little eatery. I was going to be in Roanoke for the weekend and made a point to stop in... ZeeZee's did not disappoint. We had the RibTip and Chicken Cheese Steak subs with a side of fries and their AWESOME Mac & Cheese! Everything was so delicious. We will definitely be back for more.

4 stars in the star city! - Edit
Nice choice for vegan food downtown in Roanoke. The cheesecake was unbelievably good! The 4 of us had the lentils and kale, Cajun chicken sub, philly steak sub, and the bbq wings. Everything was pretty good; although we didn’t care for the fake bone in the wings😕.

Delicious vegan food - Edit
Was in Roanoke for work (I'm from Richmond), and a coworker had discovered ZeeZee's on a recent trip, and told me to go. I was so thankful to see it. I'm an old school vegan who loves stir fried veggies, brown rice, and a salad, and was delighted to see that in addition to the vegan "comfort food" my grown children love, there were options for me too! I had the veggies and rice, and a small salad. Our local Richmond vegan spot (Hang Space) literally only has the comfort food, no other options. I did sneak a taste of the ZeeZee's mac and cheese and loved that it was not too salty, as most tend to make it. Great job on the entire meal, and positive vibes from staff. Please consider opening a location in Richmond. We need you.

Best Roanoke vegan food! - Edit
only true vegan restaurant in Roanoke! Love every single item on the menu, especially the mock meats! They even have BBQ wings!!!! The Mac n cheese is A great side option, as well is the veggies when you get a 10.99 meal! The price also is incredible! 7.00 for a sub, the same price as one at subway but vegan!! This place is a literal dream come true, within the two months I’ve started going, I’ve gotten 10+ items! Also, bringing non vegan friends here will totally blow their minds!!

What vegan fast food is all about - Edit
Subs, salads, and desserts. All very tasty and all vegan. It’s not steamed veggies and brown rice, but I can make them at home. ZeeZee’s is a real treat.

Scrumptious subs - Edit
We tried the Philly cheese steak and buffalo chicken subs. The Philly was really tasty but needed a little hot sauce and more peppers, onions, and cheese/mayo sauce. The buffalo chicken was amazing. The faux chicken was almost indistinguishable. Good flavor to the buffalo too. Just enough kick. The sub rolls were really soft and not too bread-y to over power everything. I believe they’re some sort of multigrain. The Mac n cheese was kinda bland to me. Consistency was on point but needed a little more flavor. I believe they use daiya cheese.

Zee zees - Edit
I always love a place that focuses on vegan food. Zee zees has some decent dishes. The portions are a little small for the price in my opinion and many of the options rely heavily on meat substitutes instead of naturally vegan dishes. It is decent but the staff are never overly friendly and could even be considered the opposite by some. Trying to pull a smile out of one of the guys there is like trying to lift a car. The atmosphere is ok. It's in a shared building and has common area seating. Each time I've been I've been approached for money or something. Of course our downtown is known for this. Overall: I wish they would focus more on naturally vegan dishes, lower prices a tick and be friendlier!

The Philly Cheesesteak is sooooooooooo good. Get it with the onions and peppers and add ketchup if u want to emulate the authentic Philly goodness. I have a favorite vegan food place now. I ate the ENTIRE sandwich... #noregrets
Read moreAddition to my review: Buffalo chicken wing things with cheesecake for dessert: Soooooo goooooood. The texture and flavor of the wings is grand. I went with honey barbecue. I really wish I could perfect vegan cooking the way this man has.
The cheesecake is the most reminiscent of dairy filled cheesecake that I’ve had in ten years. It’s the first I’ve had that I didn’t detect an inkling of lime. It’s the consistency of Cinderella cheese cake that we used to sell in fundraisers as a kid. Try it. You won’t be disappointed. Warning: it’s filling

Good, but not the best - Edit
Went here with a friend and we tried the Vegan Mac and Cheese. Didn’t really care for the corn and unmelted shreds of cheese in our Mac. Also tried the lentils and kale. Thought it was okay, but the lentil quinoa broth bowl at Panera tastes better. My friend ordered the fries though, and they were well seasoned. Would only give 2 stars, but was happy that it was an all vegan restaurant. Next time, I may try one of the subs and see if they’re better.

Great little place to get a meal! - Edit
My wife and I drove downtown to find this place and it was worth the trip. It’s a little hard to find since it is not on the main street, but tucked away inside an old gutted building used to house a number of walk up food establishments. There is ample room to seat yourself in the open “square” within the building. ZeeZee’s has good food and they’re willing to work with your special vegan, gluten-free, and vegetarian diets.

Cons: Hard to see from road.

Excellent Subs - Edit
Excellent! This is in the historic downtown market woth general cafeteria seating. Got a philly sub, a buffalo “chicken’ sub, and fries. The seitans’ texture is oh so good! The rolls are soft and delicious, and they have gluten free rolls as well. Certainly filling a much needed niche in Roanoke and we’d like to try everything on the menu. Friendly service. Ignore the other places in the market and just go here. We are vegetarian but it’s so satisfying any meat eater would be happy too. There is not another spot like it in the area so we hope they stick around and will be back. Perfect for a call ahead order.

Good Vegan Comfort Food - Edit
Located inside a city market area (don’t expect to see it from the outside), this stall has some pretty great vegan comfort food. I got the chicken salad sub and mac and cheese, both were good. Was looking forward to lots of dessert options listed on their website, but they were running low and only had the cheesecake, which was good (a little on the sweet side). Definitely worth dropping by if you’re in the area.

Great place! - Edit
Haven’t seen too many Vegan places in the area so I had to stop here. Hours are bizarre but I am glad I found it. There is no outdoor store front. It’s in a food hall. I ordered the philly cheese steak, two honey bbq wings and the smoothie. Everything was pretty good. The smoothie was soooo good. The cheese steak was not cheesy enough and was kind of bland while the wings were bursting with flavor. Parking is free for first hour.

THE BEST. - Edit
When traveling for business, I used to stop in a place called ZiZis in Charlotte, NC and get the most incredible vegan chicken cheesesteak subs. One of the last times I was headed down there, I pulled up their hours and realized they had recently closed. It was a total bummer.
Read moreFast forward a year later...ZiZis is back as ZeeZees and is located in the heart of Roanoke, VA.
We stopped in this weekend to try it out. I got the chicken cheesesteak and my fiance got the cheesesteak sub. We LOVED both. Still the same recipes as before and I couldn't be more thankful to have this food again. It is my favorite sub I've ever eaten! This was my fiances first time eating there and she absolutely loved it!
So glad to have you back in my life, ZeeZees!
