The best vegan restaurant in Wuhan - Edit
My friends brought me here. The decor immediately light up the mood, unlike cluttered space at other places, Yuan Qi is simple and neat.

Me and my wife had a lot of fried lotus root before we came, so we didn’t want to have the same dish again, but our friends insisted. Having the first bite completely changed my world view on philosophy, religion, life, etc. Crunchy on the outside, yet tender and flavourful inside. I don’t think I’m going to enjoy the same fish in the same way ever again.
Their veggie dishes were just right to my taste: fresh (嫩), subtle, lingering aromatic aftertaste. I especially liked the in-season 蔊菜or苋菜 and 丝瓜.
The vegan fish was also great, the chef mastered the Sichuan pepper, every simple bite is infused with the signature numbing sensation, but I’d suggest to have this dish after the veggie dishes as this vegan fish is unique and can overwhelm other tastes.
I absolutely loved every dish we ordered and can’t wait to visit again. Having lived in Wuhan for more than a decade and tried numerous vegan restaurants in town, I was very impressed by Yuan Qi, some dishes are definitely on a par with Michelin stars restaurants. I also like the owner’s vision to open this restaurant: make tasty dishes that can attract more carnivores, one less vegan meal means one less meat dish.
