Serves meat, vegan options available. Chinese cuisine with weekday lunch specials. Ask the kitchen to make veg. Open Mon-Thu 11:00am-9:00pm, Fri 11:30am-9:00pm, Sat 11:00am-9:00pm.
We stopped in for lunch during a week day while visiting Taos. As other reviewers have noted, the owner is knowledgeable and accommodating of vegan diet. Food was generous and delicious. We ordered the dinner sized portion instead of the lunch special so that we could have leftovers to bring back to our hotel.
We had the vegetable udon noodles and vegetable mu shu. They totally understood our vegan request and left out eggs. It was all delicious. Very good value too.
We went here for lunch today, mentioned that we are vegan and asked for the Kung Pow tofu. The woman who took our order was unfazed and just told the chef that we were vegan😄the miso soup and the rest of the food was delicious and the portions were huge, I’m so glad we stopped here!
The care and attention taken with my vegan food to prevent cross contamination with the non-vegan food that others in my party ordered was incredible. They let me know what's veg and how to order it next time, made it with clean dishes, and bagged all the veg food in it's own to go bag. Including separating the almond cookies (non-veg) and the fortune cookies (veg) into their respective bags.
Currently, the five star rating is only available to fully vegan or vegetarian restaurants. What a pity! The food here is as good as any Chinese restaurant in San Francisco’s Chinatown. The vegan options are varied and delicious. The staff is incredibly friendly, knows what “vegan” means, and are attentive. We had the eight treasures vegetables which were outstanding and included baby corn and other exotic vegetables like water chestnuts. We also had vegan orange chicken which was just amazing made with shiitake instead of fake meat.
There is a dearth of vegan choices in Taos, and not a single, vegan-only, restaurant. The owners of Yu Garden had a location in Angel Fire and relocated and opened up on Taos. The food is fresh, the portions healthy, and the owner is a sweetheart. She knows what "vegan" is and makes sure that when we come in, we get the vegan spring roll, the steamed rice, and leaves off the 'crab' ragoon in our combo plates. We feel like a valued patron.
Try the shitake-based General Tso's 'chik'n' - wonderful!

Excellent vegetarian and vegan chinese food - Edit
Had the 'Orange Vegetarian Chicken' which is basically mushrooms in orange sauce, and the Tofu hot plate. They did not disappoint.
Read moreThe chef is versed in vegan food (though you should make sure to ask for vegan), and very creative. These were excellent dishes.

Wish I could give five stars. - Edit
Absolutely killer. The owner said all vegetable options are vegan so there’s a whole page of suitable choices!
