Amazing vegan food - Edit
Small restaurant run by one guy - he does all the cooking, serving and cleaning so bear with him!
Read moreGreat vegan food (hard to find in Gyeongju). Highly recommend the curry and the fried chicken and chips.
Only thing to note is he runs out of food very quickly!! We turned up one day at 6 and he was shut as sold out and when we went he next day he started selling out of dishes by 5:30.
Recommend going before 5pm!

Tasty and reliable restaurant - Edit
Went there twice during my stay in Gyeongju as it was close to my hostel and the only 100% vegan restaurant nearby, so I wanted to support it.
Read moreThe menu isn't large but offers a nice variety of big and smaller dishes. I tried the salad and the curry and both were delicious and well seasoned.
The owner speaks very good english and seems very kind as he recognized me on my second visit.
Would definitely go there again if I'm back in Gyeongju.
Note: When paying with a foreign credit card there is a small fee that is added to the price, so if you want to save that, bring cash.
Pros: Tasty vegan food, Sweet owner
Cons: No toilets (I think)

완벽한 균형 Perfect Balance - Edit
Read moreI wanted to write this review in Korean as well as english, as the owner showed us so much respect by speaking our language and by serving us with such kindness, so hopefully this translates well. We loved this place so much that we have been twice and plan to visit one last time before leaving Gyeongju. The food is extremely tasty and satisfying, the atmosphere is very welcoming, and the owner is very friendly. Like others have said, if you keep in mind English is one of the hardest languages to learn as a second, and if you make a little effort yourself, he goes above and beyond to accommodate and serve you, and has such a warming nature. My wife and I wish you all the success and hope you keep working towards your plans for the future! Thanks for the food and for the conversation!
Pros: The food, The atmosphere, The friendly owner

The menu is not big, but offer different style of food. Ingredients are listed on the menu.

Both were tasty and in large portions.
Despite what some reviews are saying about the owner, he’s quite friendly.
Just remember that English is not Is first language and he’s doing everything.
Even playing/singing on 1st & 3rd Wednesday of the month.

The place is nicely decorated and original. The food I tried was nothing wow and the guy at the counter tries his best to be nice but I feel he lacks social skills

Opening hours not reliable - Edit
It is the only vegan place in the area so of course i came for the taco wraps which were tasty! The owner did not seem very welcoming and the interieur was not that cozy, but i was happy to find a vegan place with delicious food. When i came back the next day - a week day, 2 PM - the restaurant was closed although the sign on the door said "open". Four hungry people were already waiting. After half an hour, one girl managed to contact the owner on social media and he replied he is busy until 6 PM so everybody left hungry and disappointed.

We had the salad and the tacos and they were both amazing. A personal highlight was the intense smokiness of the bulgogi atop the salad.

Only fully vegan - Edit
Small diner style place in a convenient location. The menu is small and has a few fast food dishes. Owner was so rude and unwelcoming I was close to just leaving 🫣 I don’t know why he was like that but I felt so uncomfortable
Read moreI was hungry so stayed and ordered the vegan chicken for 11.000 (more if you don’t pay cash)
It comes with fries. I don’t like fries so only ate chicken
Great chicken since it’s wemeet chicken
Sauce could have a bit more flavor maybe more salt and garlic. Something was missing

Fast Food Delights - Edit
As the only vegan restaurant in the city, we frequented this USA-themed retro diner three times. That gave us time to explore all options but the meatball pasta (they were out of stock). Our favorites are the fried chicken, curry, and the Falafel taco. The other taco is okay. The salad was the weakest. We also tried the spread you can buy. We opted for the basil flavour (there is also plain and Sriracha). It's apparently not in stock, so the owner collects it over night and gave it to us with some tasty bread. It was delicious and a livesafer because there's nothing similar available in supermarkets.
Read moreThe owner is very friendly. The menu seems to have had more options in the past, so some more options would be nice. Paying by card costs an additional KRW 1000 fee.

An Excellent Vegan Option in Gyeongju! - Edit
We did takeaway from here while we were in Gyeongju and absolutely loved the food. We ordered the curry and the “chicken” and fries. It was one of the best meals we had during our Korea trip! The interior of the restaurant is a fun retro theme, so wish we ate in. It’s a one-man operation which is so impressive as we received our food quickly. Highly recommend when in Gyeongju!

Curry and tacos - Edit
Very good option in Gyeongju (autumn 2024), I went twice, once had the tacos and next time the curry, both were good although I preferred the curry. Everything is made in the moment so there could be a bit of wait but it’s worth it! The owner is really kind, speaks English.

100% Vegan now - Edit
The non vegan meals were crossed out on the menue. So i asked the owner, if the restaurant is a 100% vegan now. He said that he first offered also a few non vegan meals, to be attractive for the locals as well. As koreans love to eat meat. But now he prepares only vegan food. I went here twice during my stay and was always very satisfied. 5 stars, but i couldn‘t change the restaurant to fully vegan on the happy cow app.

A must in Gyeongju! - Edit
Yella is a small restaurant by a passionate owner who runs the place all by himself. He truly pours his soul into his cooking: everything is made to order, and the flavours are rich, comforting and full of the famous umami.
Read moreWe ordered the tacos, a curry and a side of chicken and fries. Everything was insanely delicious! The chicken texture of the curry was a true marvel!
Save your belly and patience in Gyeongju, and head straight to Yella!
The non-vegan options had been removed from the menu as we visited the place in April 2025, making Yella 100% vegan!

Best vegan meal in Gyeongju! - Edit
Loved the retro American decor and the friendly and speedy service (despite it being a one-person operation). Pretty easy to communicate with the owner in English and menus/signage included English. Very minor hiccups related to the environment: it was slightly cold just because the front door was propped open and the bathroom is inconveniently located a couple storefronts down the street and up the stairs (and is very very dimly lit).
Read moreBut, more importantly, the food was amazing! And so refreshing given that it seems to be the only fully vegan restaurant in the heart of Gyeongju.
Ordered two items:
- Vegetable Curry: Very tasty and had lots of elements to the dish (e.g., fake chicken, green beans, mushroom)
- Tomato Plantball Pasta: SO GOOD! Could have eaten another plate of this even though the dish was a generous portion. The meatballs were delicious (even for someone who’s not a big fan of fake meat)
Actually tried to come back here for dinner just a few hours later but it was closed early because they had sold out. So clearly it’s a very popular vegan spot! Will be trying to go back again tomorrow
UPDATE (4/3/25): We did, in fact, return to Yella the very next day. It was the perfect takeout for our train ride. Ordered the Tomato Plantball Pasta to go — just as delicious as our meal yesterday and even better when fresh. The owner remembered us and was very kind to throw in a free soda with our takeout order. Highly highly recommend this vegan spot!!

Fully vegan restaurant in the heart of Gyeongju, serving dishes from various cuisines such as Katsu-style curry, pasta, burgers, and chicken and chips. The owner is super friendly, very down to earth and speaks great English, and the restaurant itself has a cool 80s diner vibe.
