Lots os good options!

Simple, but clean and tasty place! I got the sesame noodles (the best noodles I have had in Taiwan) and some dumplings and was happy with my choice.
English menu, even if the staff does not speak English.

Cheap place

Very cheap place for good portions! The noodles with sesame sauce were tasty and served with a small soup. (40$) The brown rice with the lion's mane mushrooms was also good. (80$)
Friendly staff. English menu.

Pros: Cheap food

Easy budget choice

After going here 3 times I think it’s decent. I got the sesame noodles (40NT) and a plate of braised vegetables and tofu.

They have an English menu hidden at the register. You’re supposed to write your order on their paper form and take it to the register but the form is in Chinese so just point to the English menu and staff were always friendly enough to help fill out the order form.

The braised vegetables/tofu aren’t written on the menu - you order this, you get a plastic basket from the register and use tongs to fill it up with your selection of fresh produce. Whatever you select they’ll take and braise. A plate for 2 people was about 120NT but it varies depending on what you select.

Great food and they sell snacks too!

This is my go-to place because they have clearly marked hours and never change them even on weekends. I always get the sesame paste noodles because they are so delicious (drench them in vinegar and chilli oil for maximum flavour), and only cost $40 NTD. Meals come with a complimentary small bowl of soup and you can self serve water. Space is comfortable and spacious, and there’s also an English menu if you ask for it. Staff are super friendly and helpful. They sell a selection of packaged crackers, cookies, sesame brittle, etc. which I don’t think you can find in the grocery store. All packages are clearly labeled vegan or lacto ovo and are reasonably priced - highly recommend picking up snacks here instead of scouring Carrefour aisles.

Pros: Cheap and delicious food, Decent portions, Sells packaged veg*n snacks

Cheap but bland

Tainan is renowned for excellent food. So this place was a bit dissapointing.
The food was rather bland and the atmosphere was plain.
On the plus side, the food was cheap and service was quick. They also have an English menu.
Note that the pin on the map is innacurate. Walk a further two blocks eastwards to get there.

Pros: cheap, quick service, English menu.

Cons: bland-tasting, plain surroundings.

Good food, English menu

Friendly staff, a great variety of Chinese food which is good value for money. The English menu states clearly which dishes contain egg (otherwise translations are a bit random though). Also serves hot pot and mock meat dishes. Would recommend!

Pros: English menu, cheap, serves vegetarian hot pot

Cons: Translation of the menu is a bit off sometimes, Staff doesn't speak English
