Not fully veggie but good falafel options

I was disappointed that this restaurant serves meat after seeing it was listed as fully vegetarian on the Happy Cow app but was still able to get a falafel flatbread which was delicious and a generous size.

There were other falafel based dishes available.

I would return and would love to see more plant based options on the menu next time.

So and so falafel, overpriced

I got a takeaway falafel wrap, which took 20 mins to make (it was a busy time) but then it wasn't even warm when I got it, and it had onion inside (I wasn't asked whether I wanted onion or not, I didn't). It tasted OK, not bad, also not amazing. I usually like pretty salty food (I don't know anyone who likes food saltier than me), but this was a little too salty, even for me. It was £10, and although it was a decent size and the falafel seemed home-made, it was still half the size of the falafel wrap I get from my local falafel place in central London for £7.50, where the falafel is also home made.

Combined with the fact that this is no longer a veggie place, I think that means no more than 3⭐️ from me.

They assumed I wasn't eating it on the way (I was), so came a little overpackaged too. No plastic, but I don't think the bag it came in was recyclable.

Pros: Tasted decent, Tahini sauce!, Salad seemed fresh falafel seemed home made

Cons: Not hot, Very salty, Perhaps foolishly, I didn't anticipate raw onion

Delicious vegan options

Despite now serving meat, we weren't disappointed with the vegan options - everything is clearly labelled whether meat, vegetarian or vegan. We enjoyed the hummus and pita to start, vegan chickn gyros and peninsula. The hummus was a good portion (if a lot of oil) and the warm pitta was lovely. The mains were filling and really delicious, we didn't feel we were missing out on flavour!!

Pros: Super friendly staff, Delicious food

Not what it used to be

Yafo was incredible when it first opened - especially the small plates! Unfortunately it appears to be under new management and it’s just not what it once was. While there’s still a good selection of vegan options since they started serving meat (although I miss the small plates), the quality has gone downhill. It’s a massive shame!

Pros: Good range of options

Cons: Miss the small plates

Most delicious Mediterranean Food in Bristol

Love Yafo for a while now with their vegan chicken shawarma! I’ve added Labneh which makes it only vegetarian but the menu has amazing options for everybody’s taste the oyster wings are a must! Delicious fries and cocktails as well😄their fry up is amazing too and they do bottom less brunches - must visit if you’re in Bristol.

Pros: Options, Quality, Flavours

Just as an FYI, they now serve meet and a lot of the vegetarian/vegan menu has been scrubbed. As of 1 May 2025.

10/10 vegan Shawarma & cookies shake

The vegan Shwarma is a solid 10/10. I keep on ging back with the intention to try new items (vegan breakfast, vegan Schnitzel Burger, evening tapas with vegan Köfte) but I always end up picking the Shawarma again because it’s guaranteed to keep me full for half a day and just tastes too good! I also didn’t have such an authentic Shawarma since living in Germany. I will be back with a new item to review hopefully 🤞🏼

The vegan cookie shake is the best vegan shake in Bristol by far!

Only downside: had to ask for plate because the Shawarma is way too big for the little tray

The vegan shish kebab also exceeded expectations!!

Such a shame!

Went to Yafo this morning for breakfast - first time after couple of months. Such a shame as new management and they have changed the menu. What was a fab vegan breakfast has now been changed to what feels like an after thought vegan breakfast which you could get better in Tesco cafes!! They used to have scrambled tofu, mushrooms, fava beans, tater tots, tomatoes on the vine, avocado slices and much more. Now it is two mash and veggie bits sausages, baked beans with harissa spice in it, a grilled tomato (literally no flavour), tater tots and a smaller portion of smashed avocado and pita bread. Complained to the member of staff and they said that they had already complained to new management about the changes and were ignored! Also had a salad box by delivery couple of weeks ago which was not as good as previous so obviously saving money on ingredients and not delivering the authentic experience it used to be. Such a shame!!

Good wholesome food

Came here as a group of 5 for lunch to celebrate a birthday. The whole menu is vegetarian with lots of vegan options and it was a pretty substantial menu, so it was hard to choose!

I ordered a Middle Eastern, which turned out to be similar to a pizza. It was super flavourful. I'd hoped for a bit of spice, but it didn't really have a kick. Also shared some hummus and the oyster wings (these were really good, if a little greasy).

Definitely recommend. I'll be back to try more of the menu. It looks a little pricey, but the portion sizes are ok given the cost and are pretty standard for that part of Bristol.

Truly yummy

Amazing middle Eastern food which such great flavours. Highly recommended the shish kebab and the hummus plates. The pitta breads are like soft pillows. It's out of this world. And despite being full I finished with a piece of vegan baklava. Amazing.

Pros: Great staff, Amazing flavours

Amazing flavours

Oh wow the flavours of all the dishes we had were amazing. Tempting to lick the plates clean as the sauces are the best bit.
We had 4 dishes between 2 of us and that was perfect, plus dessert. The aubergine dish beginning with 'j' was the very best.

Pros: The amazing flavours, Nice staff, Relaxed atmosphere (dog-friendly)

Cons: Some vegetarian dishes could be vegan but aren't

Decent

It’s, to quote my partner, “gentrified falafel.” I had the shawarma fries, which were very nice, but could have been a little more generous on the shawarma side. The falafel and hummus was really bloody good, as was my partner schnitzel (hehehe).

Very good!

Excellent filling food, I had the vegan schnitzel and it was perfectly spiced & crispy on the outside. Falafels were also crispy and flavourful.

Fantastic Middle Eastern Food

I would say this is the best Middle eastern restaurant I have been too. Every dish was flavourful and different. The service was very good. They do like their pomegranate seeds! All veggie and plenty of dishes for a vegan.

Pros: Excellent Food, Friendly Staff, Good variety of dishes
