XMart

I'm so sad that the Xmart will be closing 😢 it's doors soon. The atmosphere was relaxing and inviting 😌. The service and people were really nice. Everything in the store part is 50% off off everything.

Vegan market/food hall

This was a a really cool place to go to. It felt like a mall food court, but everything was vegan and there was a large bar and grocery market also. The grocery market offered a lot of unique things you can’t find other places and was fun to browse, get some rare items. I would definitely recommend stopping by if you’re a vegan.

a little disappointing..

i visited xmarket when they had their previous location in chicago- the grocery was huge! now its just 4-5 isles and i think their main attraction is the food court. the food is extremely expensive, about $20 to $30 per person depending on what you order. i got the burger from kale my name, which was pretty good, but it was also $19..... my bf got an Italian sandwich with a milkshake and appetizer which was just under $40.
the grocery prices are kind of ridiculous. i can get a majority of the items at wholefoods for cheaper. some of their novelties are definitely on the more expensive side; some things i never seen before which was kind of nice. they were selling these little candy bars at the register that were marked $10 each. also dont really know why they carry so much prime drinks. i feel like they're just capitalizing off some pretty normal vegan items lol.

A great selection of vegan food options

This food hall has a great selection of vegan food options. We no longer have to worry about checking if something is vegan each time. It's a fantastic place.

X Market

This place is amazing! It’s a full-blown vegan market complete with a grocery store, wine shop, coffee stand, bar, several food vendors, and a dessert vendor. What more can you ask for? It also has a matching name with my HC screen name “X”, so I’m sold! 😊

I only wish it was open later!

It closes at 8 with last ordering for restaurants between 7:30-7:45 depending. That’s rather early for a dinner cut off! I wish it was at least open until 8:30 to accommodate later dinner times.

Pros: Veganiano!!!!!!! So goooooood

Cons: Closes too early

Delightful

Like most people say, a bit pricey, but not much different from Whole Foods markups for a much nicer experience! So cool to just know everything on get shelves is good to go, folks here are all friendly, and the space feels very relaxing

Love that Chicago has a vegan grocery store/food hall

While this grocery store and food hall is definitely pricey, I just love that Chicago has their own vegan grocery store and food hall. Know that you will pay more here than other places. Today I got a very good pizza slice that even included a vegan parmesan dispenser.

Great space!

The space is great and the vibe is good. A lot of options
The grocery section still has some good stuff, but no fresh produce anymore

Prices just high on some stuff and a barrier to trying some new things.

Could be fun on an evening with bar open, etc.

Pros: Great space , Good variety , Free parking

Cons: Price

Four stars for effort.

Update: So, I’ve returned a couple of times and, although the place is usually fairly empty, which worries me about the success of this valiant project, the food has been good and I really like being able to pull together a meal across multiple vendors. I also like that my wife can get what she wants and I can get something completely different. The prices are on the high side, but not crazy. My views on the Market are still the same. Illogical prices.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I do love this concept, and I really want to be supportive and for this place to be successful, but I am worried. Maybe it was just the day I was there, but the place was pretty much empty, and the food vendors were standing in their stalls looking bored. The food that I ordered was good and freshly prepared, but for what I ordered, the prices were on the high-end for me. If I am going to pay high prices for something, it’s for the atmosphere and experience. Paying high prices to sit in a cafeteria is not really appealing to me.
I perused the market and didn’t see anything that I could not buy at Whole Foods or other markets for much less. I did see vegan Kit-Kat bars on display. I’ve never had a vegan Kit-Kat bar. For $11, I may never.
Hopefully this turns into a great vegan gathering place. Maybe it is. It was empty when I was there.
Feel free to comment and let me know if your experience is different.
Lots of variety, a little pricey
I was visiting a friend in Chicago and had to stop by here! I wanted pizza but it was sitting out and I didn’t want to spend $ on not-fresh food. We got sushi from Bloom, and a Chicago ‘Not Dog.’ My friend is a Chicago native and all about Chicago dogs. She said it was pretty good. The sushi was freshly made and tasty. The place was kinda empty. We checked out the market, and it was really pricey - more than Whole Foods. There’s also a bar and a coffee place, but the coffee place was closed.
Pros: Lots of variety in one location, Food,
Cons: Expensive
The market is illogically expensive. Very few unique items in the market, that you can’t find at Whole Foods or other places, and yet the prices are significantly higher. I fear this market is going to fail.
I agree. I had purchased the plant-based Hershey bar with almonds at Walmart for $2.87. The market wanted $10-$11. I wanted to try the Reese's cup, but not at that price. A can of Heinz vegan beans was $10.50. I understand charging a little more to have all these vegan foods in one location, but not triple the price.
It’s a recipe for failure. They need to get their cost model figured out to where their prices are competitive.
12/10
This was such a fun experience, and I can definitely see myself coming here often. They had a fantastic collection of completely vegan restaurants. I ordered the Nottzarella Sticks from Vegan Chicago Not Dogs, Kale Duplings from Bloom, and a Coconut Ube Caphe and Matcha Mochi Donut from 2D. Everything was delicious and there was so much more there that I wanted to try. This is somewhere I'll be returning to again and again and bringing others with me.
Pros: Wide variety, Market and bar included, Atmosphere
Cons: A tad expensive
Expensive but good
I love x market. The old one had more unique things though. I miss that. I saw a kitkat for 11 dollars… no thanks haha.
Love it!
The Vegan Food Hall is such a great addition. I've tried a taco, a hotdog, garlic kale, Buffalo cauliflower, and sushi. My favorite was the Bloom sushi. I do wish PlantX will consider replacing the lighting to make it cozier there. It would be great if the PlantX market wasnt so expensive. But overall, it's wonderful and I plan to go regularly.
Lots of options in a cool open space
I just went to the grand opening and sampled 3 out of the 5 vendors. My favorite was definitely the sushi from Bloom, but everything else was solid. Would definitely recommend.
Came for the groceries, stayed for the food hall
Grocery store is good, if small. Has a lot of vegan staples, and also many items we rarely see if ever. Several brands that we have never seen before!
The food hall is great as well. The options are sushi (from Bloom), pizza (Kitchen 17), hot dogs (Not Dogs), sandwiches (Kale My Name), and tacos. Theres a bar as well. Overall a fun place to get food and hang out, we will definitely be returning.
Its all vegan!!!
Confusing experience…
Was there a few months ago where the place had one foot in the grave. Employees were lounging unattentively around, shelves were empty, everything on sale and the person at the checkout went so far as to actually proclaim that everyone of them was getting out, and that the place was done for. “Give it three months, tops!”, she said.
A few products then was past the due date, and had the same experience again. What’s going on here, one wonders…
Pros: All vegan
Cons: Confusing
A very cool grocery store
So cool to see this all vegan grocery store, they also have lots of events to bring people in. Sometimes the produce has bugs so make sure you check what you take.
All Vegan Market!
This place is huge and completely vegan! I saw vegan items, specifically cheeses, that I hadn't seen at any Whole Foods or other grocery stores before! Zero label reading and stress-free shopping here!
Huge all vegan market in Chicago!
It is amazing that this place exists. So many products that I didn’t even know existed. I hope people hear about it and shop here. They need to get the word out and having a more descriptive name (like Plant Powered Market) would help. Crossing my fingers that they make it. So awesome.
Finally!!
The banners are up, this place has just rebranded as XMarket Uptown, the first fully vegan grocery store in Chicago. It's amazingly big (think Whole Foods or TJ's), has a beautiful produce selection, carries almost all well-known vegan dairy (Just, Melt, Miyoko, Follow Your Heart, etc.) and 'meat' brands. Besides that all the grocery staples as well as amazing snacks, cookies and chocolates. Very exciting never have to check labels again and know that everything we put in our basket hasn't hurt animals.
Pros: Everything is vegan, Literally everything is vegan, No animals harmed
