Popular restaurant

While the price point is on the higher end, the portion of the food is large and the taste is superb. If you enter without reservation on busy days, you may be told that you have a limited eating time.

Great Taiwanese vegetarian restaurant

I came across this place in the Michelin guide for Taipei and was not disappointed. I had a small bowl of noodles with sesame sauce which was delicious and filling. Received two extra bits of food (I’m not 100% sure what they were) for free so that was nice. A lot of the dishes on the menu are vegetarian versions of meat dishes (the word “intestines” appears a few times) but if you’re not a fan of that there are plenty of other options.

Higher End, Quality Taiwanese

Serenity is one of the premier vegetarian restaurants here in Taipei and for good reason: excellent ambiance, delicious cuisine, and a menu that would satisfy any hungry customer.

Their menu clearly marks what items contain egg or dairy, making it easier for me as a vegan. We ordered a handful of dishes to share including their Spicy Dumplings, Eggplant, Sesame Noodles, and Basil Mushrooms. Everything we tried was perfectly seasoned, balanced, and we didn't feel heavy at all after eating everything.

Highly recommend making a reservation in order to guarantee a table for yourself. Otherwise, you may have a time limit.

CASH Only. Kind of a bummer here with prices being higher than other restaurants and them not accepting card.

The best weigh-and-pay buffet style lunch

I’m a bit confused of the other posts here since it was buffet lunch style there when I went last December 2024, but the other posts here seem like a typical order-dishes-from-the-menu style restaurant. Either way, I so love weigh-and-pay buffet places and this one offered freshly cooked, warm dishes when I ate there before 12nn. Everything was oriental vegetarian and many were vegan. Very close to the train station too.

Tasty Sichuan food with a lot of choices

We got 4 small dishes to share and two bowls of rice and there was plenty of food for two hungry people. The dishes we got were: king oyster mushrooms in vegetarian oyster sauce, sauteed vegetarian pork intestines, steamed stinky tofu stew and mapo tofu stew.

The intestines were very tasty. The meat pieces were well seasoned and had a bit of a bouncy texture. The greens added a nice bit of crunchy texture too, I ate some of the chillies and they weren't very spicy but added a little more flavour still. I have no idea if it's a close approximation of intestines but it made for a tasty plate.

The mapo tofu was delicious. Lots of slippery tofu with some of that Sichuan pepper tingle. The sauce didn't taste quite as strongly of the dobanjiang chilli paste as others I've had and this also led it not being bright red like other versions too.

The king oyster mushrooms were excellent. Good big meaty slabs of mushroom with great texture and the vegan oyster sauce was very flavoursome. The broccoli on the side was fine, but it wasn't seasoned and was a bit wet.

We enjoyed the steamed stinky tofu. I can see why it might divide opinion, there is an unpleasantness to the flavour but I kept wanting to go back for more. My best description for it is an addictive acridity. I'll definitely eat more stinky tofu but maybe I'll look for preparations with some other flavours in there too.

We were served a couple of little mochi at the end which I think we're licorice flavour with a red bean paste inside them. Not a combination I would ever choose but it worked and I enjoyed them.

We were also served free tea and refills throughout the meal.

Excellent Sichuan Restaurant

This restaurant was great.

The flavours were amazing. It is authentic Sichuan taste along with the numbing sensation of Sichuan peppers. The hot food is well and truly spicy.

The portions are large, even their "small". To the point the waitress told us we should stop ordering as it was way too much food (and she was absolutely right).

The menu was in english. The waitress we had spoke enough english for us to get by with no mandarin, your experience may vary. Cash only. Poster on wall speaks about something to do with Michelin.

Delicious, a little pricey

Everything I got here was good. My favorite was the eggplant dish and fried mushrooms.

Best traditional Taiwanese vegan food

This was our best traditional Taiwanese vegan resto. Really loved the cabbage, pressed tofu and truffle salad, the salt and pepper style deep fried mushrooms with crunchy basil and the vegetarian intestines stir fry.

Delicious!

Despite being in Taipei for only a week, we enjoyed our dinner so much that we had to come back for more. I even got up the courage to try the spicy stinky tofu -- and it was so good!

A great place

I was really looking forward to trying this place after reading about it on the Michelin site since I love Sichuanese food. It’s been a while since I went so I don’t remember all the dishes we ordered but we tried a lot of different things and they were all great (although some were not as flavorful as I’d expect from sichuanese food). Good prices and portion sizes, wonderful service.

Everything is so delicious. I’ve been here twice and I will definitely come back again soon. Ppl mostly order some dishes and share with friends, so it’s better you come with a group of 3 or more. This way you can order more and taste more delicious food.
