Delicious (and a tiny bit messy!) - Edit
I had the soy chorizo burrito, my sister had the jerk burger. Both were tasty but a bit of a mess- don’t expect to eat while you walk the park.

What a surprise to find this gem hidden near Balboa Park. It’s a mix of cafe, art center and gallery. The food is amazing and the staff super friendly. If you are looking for something different, that’s the place to go.

This place always pleases me. The food tastes like family cooked it. They definitely put care into the dishes they serve. I’ve had a little bit of everything here and you can’t go wrong with any selection.

Disappointing - Edit
I had the Jerk burger, and it was pretty disappointing. It was advertised as having a pretzel bun. Maybe they ran out, because I just had a regular bun you'd find at the grocery store. The patty was likely a reheated frozen veggie patty. The Jerk sauce treated an awfully lot like BBQ sauce. The sweet potato fries were OK, but not particularly good. All in all, it felt like a minimal effort.
Read moreMaybe I should have tried the peanut curry. I'll revisit to try that and update this review. Hopefully there is better food, and the Jerk burger was just not the right thing to order.
If you like kombucha, this is probably a good place for that, as they have several on tap.
Pros: Lots of kombucha on tap, Variety of food options
Cons: Burger did not have advertised bun, Food tasted like heated frozen items, not fresh

BEST VEGAN FOOD IN SD - Edit
This is by far the best food we have had in San Diego. We shared the combination plate and the Jamaican jerk tofu patty, and both blew me away. The favours were amazing- so much nuance and well-rounded flavours, not too spicy but just PERFECT. GO HERE! #Veganuary

Very tasty - all vegan! - Edit
Very delicious! There was a cute little outside eating area. The food was very delicious. I loved the plantains 🤤 it’s only open (I believe) Fri-Sun 12-4, so not a very broad window. The drinks are a bit overpriced tho, but over than that - worth it!

Delicious and affordable - Edit
I can't stress the affordability enough. Everything on the menu was around 5-7 dollars. Me and my wife shared the spicy cabbage jamaican patty, chilly, and peanut curry along with coffee and two desserts for around $30. All the food was good, but the jamaican patty was easily the best thing we tried. Definitely recommend trying it out when you find yourself near Balboa park.

Just ok - Edit
It’s doesn’t have the greatest look to it. A basic cafe. It’s friendly however. Don’t expect fancy in the least. The salad was basic but tasty (Dressing is delicious). The Jamaican patties are greasy but very good. Had a grilled cheese and it was super basic and boring. Kids would like it.

Way more than just the food - Edit
We were in Balboa Park visiting museums and looking for somewhere to grab a good lunch. WorldBeat Cafe surpassed our expectations. The food was delicious, the decor eclectic, the staff inviting and very helpful.
Read moreThe building they occupy is part café, part art gallery, part music venue and community centre. The building has lots of green and sustainable designs with more plans for improvement.
We left with a full belly and a full list of contacts and recommendations for other places to visit along our journey (we are on a cross-continental road tour).
Pros: Great tasting food and drinks, International culinary inspiration, Grow some of their food in their own garden
Cons: Great things take time to put together

Enjoyable Surprise! - Edit
As we approached this restaurant, it was hard to know what to expect. We were greeted with smiles of welcome and a description of the fresh wholesome food that had been prepared for us with "Love" and that was just waiting for us to show up and eat it. Fresh collard greens from the restaurant gardens; red quinoa and curry; vegetarian chili; plantain; and vegan doughnuts for dessert. The environment was eclectic and thoroughly enjoyable and the food was delicious!

Tasty and Reasonably Priced Caribbean Food - Edit
I stopped by this small restaurant inside of a cultural center on my way back to LA from San Diego. I ordered a vegan patty with cabbage and vegetables and a vegan gumbo and to drink I ordered a ginger Kombucha on tap. Everything I had here was delicious and very reasonably priced. The people working here are really friendly.
