Great menu & service but cook needs training - Edit
Lots of awesome choices on the menu, we had such a hard time deciding what to have! We went for the vegan French Toast and the special Super Nacho Burrito. Both had great flavor, but the burrito stuffing was cold and the French toast was mushy. They do not have a microwave so we couldn't reheat. The servers were very friendly, and the area is perfect for vegetarian/vegan fare and we hope they are able to rectify the improper cooking, & we will try again in the future.

Scrambled tofu? Pancakes? Biscuits and gravy? Yes please!! This place is delicious. We went there for breakfast and ended up over-ordering. It was all so tempting though. This is a great place. Friendly staff. Cute vibe. They even have a children's menu with vegan options.

This place is such an awesome stop for some delicious vegan eats. They have everything from pancakes to French toast to hamburgers & salads. Anything can be made vegan and a lot of items already are. We got the biscuits & gravy and the French toast both are soooo so good. 👍🏼

Lovely place for vegans - Edit
This was a delightful restaurant that had vegan items clearly marked on the menu. We had their specials - a gnocchi, which was neatly done, and the West Indian curries - this was a substantial plate with veggies and tofu, black lentils and a small dish of chutney. We also had a distinctive sweet and sour borscht, The meal was very enjoyable. Service was friendly, the ambiance was relaxed.

Awesome vegan lunch in Arcata - Edit
Stopped by this vegetarian restaurant for lunch while heading north and we were very pleased. Virtually every item on the menu, with a few minor exceptions, can be made vegan. I ordered the nutbuger with the salad option. It was delicious. Suzanna (at my suggestion) ordered the nachos. Yum. The food and the service were wonderful. The wait staff was very friendly and knew how to veganize everything on the menu. One nicety that is rare and very appreciated was the fact that both waitresses served us. There wasn’t the usual “I’ll have to get your waitress”. On the way out we grabbed a couple of tasty vegan cookies to go (peanut butter and oatmeal raisin; the latter was my favorite). Highly recommended!

Love Love Love this Place - Edit
This place is a vegan's delight! Having lived in rural and sometimes remote places all over the country,I can honestly not express how great it is to have a gem like this in Arcata. The owners are great and the staff is super friendly and accommodating. I've eaten here many times over the years and having recently moved to town for a spell, found myself eating here multiple times a week. I had a regular Sunday brunch for a minute and ate lunch or dinner here at least once or twice. I've probably tried everything on the menu at least once.
Read moreAs mentioned in several reviews, everything on the menu can be made vegan. My personal favorites:
Breakfast-
Breakfast Burrito- Sub quinoa chorizo or tofu for the eggs. Its huge, smothered in
salsa, and so good
Humboldt Hash- Sub quinoa chorizo for the egg and delight in potato/lentil
goodness
Ranchero Flores- My ultimate favorite and usual go to
Lunch-
Dragon Bowl- Really nice balance of veg to noodle and the cilantro-lime sauce is
bomb
Tempeh Tacos- Great take on veggie tacos
Thai Salad- I was stuck on this one for a minute. The portion is great and filling.
Its got the right balance of veggies and is topped with grilled
tempeh. Tip: Ask for extra Peanut Sauce. IT's to die for!
Black-Bean Quinoa Burger- Simply put, the spice blend makes this mouth
watering delicious
Apps-
Super Nachos- Huge Portion, so come prepared to share with friends. Or, act like
no one is watching and eat the whole things as your meal.
Dinner- Check the Seasonal Specials and order that. You can't go wrong
The dessert menu varies, but for a while they had a vegan peanut butter pie. By far the best vegan dessert I've ever had out anywhere.
Disclaimer: They do use Earth Balance for their baked goods, but honestly if we visit a place that serves "vegan options" I do not think we can nitpick this one. Especially looking at the cogs of making in house vegan butter in a busy establishment like this
Bottom-line: Eat Here!
Pros: Excellent Food, Friendly staff, Great portions
Cons: Slow service when busy

All the menu items can be made vegan! We had vegan mac and cheese, vegan tuna melt, and vegan biscuits and gravy. All we're divine! The "cheese" had great texture and tasted great. They have a great variety of vegan pastries too. Highly recommend!!

Cozy Place for Vegans and Vegetarians - Edit
This vegetarian restaurant has numerous vegan dishes, and most (if not all) of the vegetarian dishes have a vegan option. They make great vegan pastries, sell locally brewed alcoholic beverages, and I recommend the vegan mac n cheese plate or the vegan nachos.

Cons: a bit pricey, small and can fill up on busy weekend nights

I have something to add ...this past week I tried a veganized version of their soft tacos. I got the tempeh ones, left off the cheese and sour cream, and had avocado and a side of the vegan nacho cheez sauce instead. So so good. Also - the vegan version of the reuben is excellent, I get it without lettuce and tomato too since the sandwich already comes with a side salad. Try their tempeh!

Great Vegetarian/Vegan restaurant - Edit
This place has been in business since 1987 and you can tell why it's so popular. We tried the vegan Reuben sandwich with a side salad dressed in herbal vinaigrette, Pat's Mac n' Cheese, and nachos. For dessert we had the peanut butter pie and a raspberry thumb-print cookie.
Read moreThe sandwich was very good and the nachos were amazing (all the dishes came out at a hot temperature except the nachos which was a little disappointing) and the mac and cheese was a standout. Perfectly cooked pasta shells were topped with a delicious vegan cheese sauce and sprinkled with gomasio seasoning (black sesame seeds and salt) and it came with bright steamed kale and a slice of corn bread. For an extra charge, I added in broccoli. Desserts were really good and the pie (the selection changes daily) was velvety and smooth.
Pros: great food, great service, yummy desserts

Great place! - Edit
I went there several times during a California road trip, and they had something to make everyone in my five-person (mostly not vegetarian or vegan) party happy! The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the booth at the front by the window is really nice. I loved everything I ate there, except their smoothies are only okay. Their tofu scramble totally changed my life--or at least my tofu-eating life. My attempts to copy it have led to the best tofu scrambles ON EARTH coming out of my kitchen.

Okay - Edit
Besides barely getting there on time to get a table because it was so crowded, this place was okay. Okay sounds bad, but it was like an "OKAY!!!!!!!", ya know? I would definitely go again, but maybe try and get a table not in the middle. They are INCREDIBLY vegan friendly (except they do use Earth Balance that uses palm oil which is unsustainable and not rainforest-friendly), but I was able to see into the kitchen and saw a girl just wipe the pan with a cloth after cooking who knows what, meat or eggs, I should have asked but I was afraid..shame on me. I got the Blackbean-Quinoa Burger with a side salad (no dressing), and added grilled mushrooms and asked for sprouts but never got them. The burger was...okay. I'm not sure if this sounds possible, but it was a little dry but oily at the same time. There wasn't too much oil on my hands, but I had oil stains on my napkin. The patty was mildly spicy (not a con). I didn't like the atmosphere of people around me. We were too close and the entire place is too small for comfort. They had vegan desserts, but I didn't get any. Cookies and a lemon poppyseed vegan scone.
Read moreDo I recommend this place? I think I do. They have tons of vegan options. And I mean TONS!
Update: went again and got their Falafel with a cup of rice and beans, as well as a cup of coffee (no cream or sugar). The coffee was delicious, the rice and beans were amazing, the Falafel tasted like seafood (not in a good way unless you like the taste of octopus which I have had before I went vegan). So...don't get the Falafel.

I've been to Wildflower several times and took my meat-eating chef friend there who said, "Wow. This is so flavorful!" Their menu options are diverse and delicious- even down to the drinks! The locals know this place is a gem and I'll continue to bring friends when I go.

delightful surprise - Edit
We ate there on 9/26/14. The hummus plate appetizer had a variety of fresh veggies, hummus, warm pita bread, and a spicy tappenade. It was abundant and delicious. The side salads were crisp and fresh. I had a plate of steamed veggies over fresh greens and my friend had a dragon bowl with spicy noodles. Total cost was just under $30 and we felt like we had enjoyed a feast. It's a small, friendly place with great service. Thank you Happy Cow! I never would have found them without you.

Yummy GF Treats! - Edit
Driving home to SLC from Eureka we found this cosy cafe. Since we were at the beginning of a 13hr drive I got breakfast takeout: thick gluten-free banana pancakes, gf sugar cookies (heart-shaped!), and scrumptious & moist gingersnaps (good flavouring with molasses and clove). The cost was cheaper than SLC. The service was very friendly, our order was filled quickly and we were on our way. I wish I'd bought more gingersnaps for the road.

A gem! - Edit
This small café and bakery is an absolute gem. On a recent trip to Arcata, we ate there twice in one day, and had to leave early the next day or we might have had additional meals there. The menu is vegetarian with many vegan options and specials. They can make most of the vegetarian dishes vegan upon request. My husband enjoyed the vegan mac and cheese at dinner, and earlier in the day had vegan biscuits and gravy which he also liked a lot. I had a unique dish for breakfast that I loved - grilled (fried?) potato pieces topped with delicious steamed organic garden vegetables. At dinner, I opted for the Hawaiian tempeh burger which was delectable. The service was excellent; very friendly accommodating staff. The prices were average - not cheap, not extreme. If you are vegan and visit the McKinleyville/Arcata/Eureka area at least one meal at Wildflower Café and Bakery is a must!

Came here for dinner while on vacation. I ordered the vegan mac and cheese which was yummy! I am not a fan of vegan cheese but had no problem with this. It also came with cornbread and kale which were equally good. I also got a lemon thyme scone which was tasty. I was very pleased with this restaurant and will come again when I'm in the area.

My husband and I were passing through Arcata, CA about a month ago on vacation, and we were very fortunate to find this great restaurant. I liked the atmosphere, but the food was unbelievably good. My husband had the tempeh tacos, and I had the Reuben. I would highly recommend both. Also, even if you are full make sure you look at their pastry case before you leave and get something to go. Their brownies are amazing.
