Great vegan cafe

Great little cafe with a very relaxed atmosphere.
Everything is vegan. I had a chicken schnitzel wrap, for $15. It was delicious. Portion size was very generous.

Pros: Everything vegan, Relaxed atmosphere, Friendly staff

Disappointing :((

I got the sweet potato and tofu souvlaki and was quite disappointed. The tofu was basically raw (like straight from the packet) and had zero seasoning so it was really bland and not great, and overall the souvlaki was was quite plain and tasteless. Hopefully their other options are better.

Pros: Lots of options

Room for improvement

I really wanted to love this place, because I thought the service was great and the vibe was lovely!
I ordered an avocado bagel and my partner a Japanese wrap. Unfortunately the bagel itself was very dry, however the toppings were tasty. My partner didn't enjoy the flavours in the wrap; there was too much salad and it was quite bland. Enjoyed our coffees however, and we would probably return in the future to give other menu items a try. Perhaps their specialties lie in their smoothies and salads, as the menu for these was extensive! Worth a visit if you're in the area!

Pros: Warm and friendly service, Home cooked food, Good coffee

Cons: A bit bland, Amount of salad in servings

Terrible service

We ordered food, after over half an hour we went to ask where it was and turned out they forgot to put up the food docket to make the meal, annoying but everyone makes mistakes. We were then told it would it would only be 10-15 mins until we got our food. 30 minutes later we still had no food and we advised it would need to be take away as we had to go. 10 minutes after this we still had no food so walked out. I’m sure their food is nice but I could not recommend this place based on the worst service I’ve ever received.

It is well priced, the cafe has a lovely vibe and you get really decent servings.

Great takeaway experience

Friendly staff, informed me that all food is vegan. We had a chick'n schnitzel wrap which was very tasty, and fresh! Seemed to be like Fry's tenders, which are always yummy.
Coffee and chai latte both perfect, and came with a yummy biscuit.

Improved dramatically

Apparently a new owner recently took over, which has resulted in a more expansive menu and better vibe about the place. Tasty food made with love/care.

Pros: Competent friendly staff, Variety of food on offer, Good coffee

Bland and overpriced but great vegan atmosphere

Overpriced food that is bland and I think they heat it up in the microwave however the vibe of the place is great, very vegan friendly. Great coffee however I wish they would work on their menu.

Pros: Great atmosphere , Lots of vegan junk food

Cons: Overpriced , Bland menu food

Most food is good and well priced

Cute and friendly place with good food. Have been here twice and was a bit disappointed the second time as i paid $13 for an acai bowl that was a half filled coconut bowl with barely any toppings and was not filling at all. Other options are better and are better priced.

Almost all vegan in Bayside area!

Update: I visited the other day for the first time in a while and I'm more impressed than ever! I had the souvlaki special, sweet potato and macadamia feta.. gosh it was amazing. With an iced chocolate with coconut mylk. You can't go wrong. My partners mushroom and feta souvlaki was just as good. They have also increased their grocery range in store, all vegan and all great. I love this place.

Previous review 2017: Everything in the cafe and store is vegan except cows milk which is offered for drinks. Only 4 stars because of this. I like how cosy and cute this place is. The food is basic vegan and lovely, the fresh salads are all great too - you can get up to 5 salads for around $15 or so.

Pros: all food is vegan, seating outside for summer!

Cons: Offer cows milk for drinks, closed on Sundays!

Lovely

Came in near closing but were still welcomed. Great smooth and raw desserts. Lots of other things on the menu we didn't get to try this time. All vegan except cow's milk stocked for coffee. Cow's milk not advertised and is not the default milk served.

Needs direction

Fairly standard menu selection; a few burgers, a few smoothies, some salad, sweets and hot drinks. All food is vegan although dairy milk is still an option for drinks. We ordered burgers and they were quite dry; the optional sauce offered was very sparingly added to the rolls. The smoothie was well made and necessary to help the burgers go down. The chai latte was one of the best I've had.

I wouldn't go out of my way to return but may pop in for a drink if in the area.

Heaven on earth!!

I don't know where to start because Wild Yam can do no wrong!
It's a treasure to have this amazing cafe in the south east suburbs. The food is soooo delicious and I know the owner makes it fresh everyday and puts lots of love into it and you can feel it!
Forget feeling sluggish and gross after eating, you will literally bounce out feeling on top of the world! I love healthy nourishing vegan food :) And the prices are affordable! ($12 for a big magic bowl stuffed with a combo of salads!!!!!)
All the food is vegan, many gluten free options and even some garlic/onion free options! The dessert fridge is dangerous because they're all soooo yummy and perfect with a soy chai or almond milk super spice cacao :)
I love sitting down the back on the comfy couch and reading one of the many awesome books the owner shares with customers. Very blissful!
If you're short on time then grab some take away (food changes seasonally so ask the friendly staff what's available) and enjoy :)
This place is one of a kind, the food is filled with love and absolutely delicious but that's only one part of Wild Yam. They do a lot of fundraising for Edgar's Mission, a women's development group in Nepal and towards the Nepalese landslide devestation. They support local artists and new vegan businesses. They also provide a suspended coffee system for those in need! The owner and staff are very friendly and I often find myself staying even longer just to have a chat :)
I've never left this place without a smile on my face and a happy belly.

Pros: Beautiful food!, Relaxing and happy vibe., Friendly and helpful staff !

Best Vegan food in the South East

I've been a regular here for many years now. Whenever I'm away I look out for places offering similar food.

The place has come a long way after much hard work and dedication by the owner and support from the locals.
The owner is warm and enjoys looking after people providing a family friendly environment with a toy area and is happy to make children feel welcome often making babychinos and getting in products to cater for kids like vegan chocolate freckles, marshmallows ect.

The magic bowls are my favorite lunch & are quite a large serving infact I haven't been able to finish it all on occasion. For $10-12 and being organic wholefood it's better value than most places I've visited. They contain your choice of fresh salads and curries or you can have a plate with a veggie pattie/salad or pastry and salad or a variety of other options. Reading other reviews people are confused by there not being a menu but after asking about it I understand it's because the menu is constantly changing according to whats in season or what new products they are offering at the time. They often write on the outside of the fridge and have labels on the raw desserts.

This place also makes some of the best coffee I've had in Melbourne and I've waited for them to open some mornings just to get my yam coffee. They have quite a selection of different milks now, kombucha on tap, fresh juices, smoothies and a proper filtered water station.

Going from more of a supplement store to wanting to provide healthy food to people I've seen the store really flourish. It is not a regular restaurant by any means. As far as I can see it was never intended to be.Quirky and offbeat this is defiantly one of my favorite places to visit for some nourishment or to catch up with friends.

Pros: Healthy food that tastes good. , Affordable and friendly, Great coffee

Lovely, peaceful aura

This cafe is very cosy and comfortable, the food (especially the cakes!) really hits the spot. It is run by a very friendly family business and they also sell pricey vegan products like pantry food and t-shirts. When I went to Wild Yam with a few friends, it felt like a cool place to hang out. What's more, it's right near the train station so it's the place to go after work or school!

Pros: Vegan raw cakes , they sell veg marshmallows :)

Cons: small

The Wild Yam

Really nice place, perfect for a coffee and cake, though not much else. Welcoming air and a nice selection of veg health foods and supplements. I love the chilled out eating space, the comfy armchairs, the children's area with toys, the peaceful pictues on the wall.

Pros: Good Food, Friendly Workers, Lovely Surroundings
