Great vegan options in Bayside area - Edit
Everything in the cafe and store is vegan except cows milk which is offered for drinks. I always wonder why?? Only 4 stars because of this. The staff can also be a bit rude when people ask for cows milk too... if you don't want to serve it, don't offer it! Anyway, I like how cosy and cute this place is. The food is basic vegan and lovely, the fresh salads are all great too - you can get up to 5 salads for around $15 or so. I find it fairly priced. The smoothies are great too, I'm such a sucker for smoothies :)
Pros: Everything is vegan bar cows milk for drinks, cosy
Cons: Offer cows milk for drinks, closed on Sundays!

Needs direction - Edit
Fairly standard menu selection; a few burgers, a few smoothies, some salad, sweets and hot drinks. All food is vegan although dairy milk is still an option for drinks. We ordered burgers and they were quite dry; the optional sauce offered was very sparingly added to the rolls. The smoothie was well made and necessary to help the burgers go down. The chai latte was one of the best I've had.
I wouldn't go out of my way to return but may pop in for a drink if in the area.

Heaven on earth!! - Edit
I don't know where to start because Wild Yam can do no wrong!
It's a treasure to have this amazing cafe in the south east suburbs. The food is soooo delicious and I know the owner makes it fresh everyday and puts lots of love into it and you can feel it!
Forget feeling sluggish and gross after eating, you will literally bounce out feeling on top of the world! I love healthy nourishing vegan food :) And the prices are affordable! ($12 for a big magic bowl stuffed with a combo of salads!!!!!)
All the food is vegan, many gluten free options and even some garlic/onion free options! The dessert fridge is dangerous because they're all soooo yummy and perfect with a soy chai or almond milk super spice cacao :)
I love sitting down the back on the comfy couch and reading one of the many awesome books the owner shares with customers. Very blissful!
If you're short on time then grab some take away (food changes seasonally so ask the friendly staff what's available) and enjoy :)
This place is one of a kind, the food is filled with love and absolutely delicious but that's only one part of Wild Yam. They do a lot of fundraising for Edgar's Mission, a women's development group in Nepal and towards the Nepalese landslide devestation. They support local artists and new vegan businesses. They also provide a suspended coffee system for those in need! The owner and staff are very friendly and I often find myself staying even longer just to have a chat :)
I've never left this place without a smile on my face and a happy belly.
Pros: Beautiful food!, Relaxing and happy vibe., Friendly and helpful staff !

Best Vegan food in the South East - Edit
I've been a regular here for many years now. Whenever I'm away I look out for places offering similar food.
The place has come a long way after much hard work and dedication by the owner and support from the locals.
The owner is warm and enjoys looking after people providing a family friendly environment with a toy area and is happy to make children feel welcome often making babychinos and getting in products to cater for kids like vegan chocolate freckles, marshmallows ect.
The magic bowls are my favorite lunch & are quite a large serving infact I haven't been able to finish it all on occasion. For $10-12 and being organic wholefood it's better value than most places I've visited. They contain your choice of fresh salads and curries or you can have a plate with a veggie pattie/salad or pastry and salad or a variety of other options. Reading other reviews people are confused by there not being a menu but after asking about it I understand it's because the menu is constantly changing according to whats in season or what new products they are offering at the time. They often write on the outside of the fridge and have labels on the raw desserts.
This place also makes some of the best coffee I've had in Melbourne and I've waited for them to open some mornings just to get my yam coffee. They have quite a selection of different milks now, kombucha on tap, fresh juices, smoothies and a proper filtered water station.
Going from more of a supplement store to wanting to provide healthy food to people I've seen the store really flourish. It is not a regular restaurant by any means. As far as I can see it was never intended to be.Quirky and offbeat this is defiantly one of my favorite places to visit for some nourishment or to catch up with friends.
Pros: Healthy food that tastes good. , Affordable and friendly, Great coffee

I've had enough of this place!! - Edit
I've been attending here since the outset, continually looking past the poor service, inflated prices, food heated in a microwave (no oven!!) and staff off with the fairies, all in an attempt to support a vego restaurant. Enough is enough! Forget attending here during the week, the owner and staff regularly make you feel invisible whilst standing at the counter waiting to order, even when nobody else is in the restaurant. The only time I've found good service here is on weekends when the owner is absent and staff competent in good customer relations are present.
Pros: vego
Cons: poor service, microwave food, exorbitant prices

Lovely, peaceful aura - Edit
This cafe is very cosy and comfortable, the food (especially the cakes!) really hits the spot. It is run by a very friendly family business and they also sell pricey vegan products like pantry food and t-shirts. When I went to Wild Yam with a few friends, it felt like a cool place to hang out. What's more, it's right near the train station so it's the place to go after work or school!
Pros: Vegan raw cakes , they sell veg marshmallows :)
Cons: small

The Wild Yam - Edit
Really nice place, perfect for a coffee and cake, though not much else. Welcoming air and a nice selection of veg health foods and supplements. I love the chilled out eating space, the comfy armchairs, the children's area with toys, the peaceful pictues on the wall.
Pros: Good Food, Friendly Workers, Lovely Surroundings
