Loved it! - Edit
On a flying visit to New Plymouth, I was glad to be able to grab both breakfast (scrambled tofu on toast) and lunch (pickle herb cheese toasted sandwich) at Wild Pear Kitchen. I also sampled their iced drinks (I had the mocha and it came with whipped cream and ice cream) and also the pear/bran/something/something muffin. I forget exactly what the muffin was called but despite my not liking pears, it was really good. I would come back to N.P. for that alone.

Great also that they open at 7.30am so I had time to get breakfast before work.
Pros: Amazingly good muffin, lovely staff, everything was tasty

Loads of Wonderful - Edit
Plenty of delicious options, wish we had found it sooner on our visit to the area and hope to come back someday to try more items!! Most of the menu was vegan 🌱!! Had a great vegan feta option that we both enjoyed- potato dish with pesto. Would out of everywhere we visited recommend this the most.

Tasty AND zero waste - Edit
Wild Pear happened to be near our hotel and I'm very glad we came across it! Not only is most of the menu vegan, it was also delicious and there were several vegan baked goods at the counter too. We got the scrambled tofu with a side of crispy potatoes and the avocado with pesto/basil on toast, plus a hot chocolate - the tofu and potatoes were definitely the highlight. I also noticed they had posters up encouraging bringing your own containers as well as advertising screenings of zero-waste documentaries, which is awesome! Great to see a small city embracing these initiatives.

False advertising - Edit
The sign claims they are plant based, but they serve EGGS!!! I didn't even go inside once I learned this.

Cons: tried to give zero stars, system wouldn't let me
Owen2393
For anyone reading this review, it is slightly unfair - they actually advertise on their window “plant based vegetarian” showing clearly that they are not purely plant based but offer vegetarian options too. They have a large number of plant based options, with a few other options offering organic eggs.

Amazing lunch options - Edit
The best place in New Plymouth to go for breakfast or lunch!
Read moreAlthough they are not completely vegan, probably around 80 percent of their food items are and there are descriptions about all ingredients available. We absolutely loved their different lunch options and stopped by twice. They have several hot dishes and salad options available from which you can choose to build yourself your own bowl. Also, there are a lot of homemade sweets available.
Pros: Loads of vegan options, Healthy focus, Friendly staff
Cons: Not completely vegan

Absolute Hit! - Edit
From the great welcoming vibe and staff to the delicious plates, this place hits the spot! First time I went I got a large deli plate which meant I got a mountain of delicious hot and cold salads but today I felt trashy so got the hemp burger on gf bun and kumura fries with acai smoothie. Dayyyyyum, I could eat it all again!

You must go here! - Edit
Wow I was blown away by the options. They have this thing where you choose what size bowl you want (I think small was about $16, great for brunch). Then you choose a salad.. I had Moroccan chickpea and then two hot options out of jackfruit taco (so good!!!!), pad thai (so good!!!) And I think it was lasagne. I imagine these options change all the time. Seriously amazing food. I would have gone back again if they were open on the Sunday. They also have a selection of foods in the shop and had a pack of dandies marshmallows that my child spotted so we had to get those. Lovely outdoor area too, really great vibe indoor seating too. Just amazing. There are vegan and some vegetarian things there.

So dang good! - Edit
This place has won the best restaurant in New Plymouth, and you can see why. Had a “hot bowl” - mix and match your choice of options from the counter, a burger, and polenta fries. Everything was beautifully fresh and full of flavour and colour. Has to be the best vegan option in town.
Read moreThe hot bowl isn’t one for people who don’t like their food to touch 😂 (I’m not bothered). Mine had 3 different cold salads, a dressing, plus jackfruit nachos and a tofu curry, which was a slightly unusual mix, but really delicious.
