Less vegan options all the time

Grocery is still decent but generally does not carry too much more than a Hannaford etc. Prepared foods and bakery are a fraction of what they used to be. Rarely shop here now because of how limited their selection is

Pros: Variety, Convenience , Beverage selection

Cons: Variety, Price, Packaging

Loved the hot bar!

We don’t live close to a Whole Foods, so while visiting Portland, we had to stop in and see what we’ve been missing!

The hot food bar was great. We got a variety of vegan goodies, such as jicama fries, Cajun chicken nuggets, teriyaki chicken nuggets, butternut squash, mushrooms and some other yummy things I can’t remember right now. They had a soup bar, which had at least two vegan soups and a salad bar, that looked better than any salad bar I’ve ever seen. Everything looked fresh and I never saw any empty containers, so they must keep up with refilling it well. They also had vegan pizza options.

Prior to geeking out at the prepared food bars, we walked around the store, grabbed a few produce items for our hotel and just browsed prices and their selection. The store was very busy but had lots of helpful employees milling around and was clean.

It was a fun, little addition to our trip and my husband made the comment, “We need to decide where to move next by how close we can live to a Whole Foods.” So I think that speaks for itself :)

Pros: Vegan Prepared Food Bar, Lots of vegan options , Clean store w/ lots of employees around to help

Cons: Very busy , Crowded

great prepared food options

I have to travel out of state for a whole foods experience. Of course, I look forward to shopping for groceries but I always forget how great the prepared food options are. So many vegan items on the hot/cold bar as well as every prepared section.

Pros: lots of vegan options, they don't charge extra for vegan

Burrito is a good option

Had the tofu burrito here for dinner once while travelling through Portland. It was really good and I would recommend it. Also had the detox juice which was good. Overall, it was a little over-priced but it was an okay option while travelling.

Almost everything in one stop

The salad and hot bars at the Portland Whole Foods kept me satisfied for days during and after my stay. While I wanted to frequent as many locally owned cafes and restaurants as possible, the options at the salad and hot bars were too tempting to pass up. There were not may vegan dessert options like at other Whole Foods, but the two cupcakes offered in the bakery were decent. There were not as many vegan chocolates and shelved foods as I would have liked, but those salad and hot bars made up for that while travelling. There was also vegan sushi, pizza, and soup that I did not try.

Pros: Excelllent hot and salad bar, Easy location, Helpful staff

Cons: Salad bar and hot bar prices add up, Not as many vegan shelved foods as other WFM

Yes yes yes!

One of the best Whole Foods I've been too! I feel like the prepared food section had more vegan options then 'regular'! Got a great peice of Vegan Key Lime pie and freshed squeezed OJ that we got to squeeze ourselves which my daughter thought was great!

Pros: Lots and lots of choices

Beer, wine, produce and prepared foods

This Whole Foods is the only one, for now, in Portland, Maine, so it makes sense that it is so large. The place is packed so full of produce and local produce when possible, that I feel that it's produce section is the largest I have seen in any other Whole Foods market. The layout is very spacious, so that may be part of it. However, any vegetable or fruit you have ever found at a Whole Foods is here.

There is also a respectable bulk foods section, and very conveniently, it is right by the produce section. Plenty of herbs and spices can be purchased in bulk, as can coffee. They have many fresh juices available for purchase in the produce area.

Great assortment of vegan frozen desserts and prepared foods (i.e. fake meat) if that's your predilection or two. Good selection of refrigerated non-dairy milks, but the shelf-stable non-dairy milk selection is even better. Good selection of raw snacks, as well as regular dried fruit and raw nuts.

Beautiful selection of prepared on-site cooked foods and salad bar vegetables. It is generally by weight, so be careful as you load up your plate. Pre-made on-site baked goods like cookies, scones and cake slices have vegan choices, which is nice - none are yet gluten-free also.

Broad array of beer and wine for the connoisseur, enthusiast and fan of such libations.

As a veg*n in Portland, this is a saving grace that is more reasonable and affordable than dining out every day.

Pros: Produce selection, Local emphasis, Size of store and product variety

Cons: Needs gluten free and vegan cake!

Awesome Whole Foods

This is one of the best WF's I've been to. They have a great beer and wine selection, lots of vegan deli and vegan bakery options and friendly service. Their guacamole made in house is amazing (and super expensive) as are their prepared fresh fruit options.

Pros: great vegan deli/bakery options, great produce and fruit, large wine and beer selection

yay for Whole Foods

I am from Boston and was very used to doing my weekly shopping at Whole Foods, so I was so glad they finally opened one in Portland after I moved here. They have TONS of great vegan food (even great fresh vegan food they make there) and vegan options at their bakery (muffins, cookies, scones, cake). Great produce section as well.

Pros: clean, tons of stuff, great vegan options
