Serves meat, vegan options available. Offers a couple of vegan choices, maybe a coconut curry bowl or house salad, plus other lacto-vegetarian ones. Open Mon-Sun 7:30am-10:00pm.
Used to love this place when I was vegetarian, however as a vegan there aren’t many options without several modifications.😒Still a good option for coffee which is great!
my heart hurts writing this review, but it’s true. there’s simply not enough vegan options, and if you do want your meal vegan, you need to be extra annoying and ask for no x,y, and z.
if you’re in the fort and are needing a quick pick me up, I opt for the yam and quinoa salad, sub for balsamic dressing, no goat cheese, and no bread (butter is added) and extra greens.
for dessert, you can have a couple of their mini vegan cookies or their peanut butter chocolate fudge bar
I had the coconut curry bowl. Tasted great, but it wasn't even fully vegan as it came with garlic-butter naan. Too bad some restaurants can't even have one featured vegan meal option. There was a dessert & a cookie labeled as vegan though.
not enough vegan options nor uninformed staff on what “vegan” means - Edit
I’ve been here many times under the impression that some meals can be prepped vegan, and this was said with certainty by the many staff i’ve dealt with. my favourite thing to order was the yam and quinoa salad with a side of focaccia bread. to make it vegan, they told me to sub the dressing for balsamic, remove the cheese, and to ask for no butter on their focaccia bread. which I would do, many times. after months of ordering it, today it didn’t come with focaccia bread. why? well because they just informed me they weren’t sure about the ingredients. it’s pretty frustrating when you have to deal with misinformed staff members like this. I would have appreciated them to double check on ingredients before they gave me their word. I won’t be going back for a meal anytime soon.
Wendel's is a really charming cafe, and is very busy. Food is good, but there is a limited option of vegan-ready menu items. Sometimes the staff are not very knowledgable about ingredients. Not my favourite coffee
Sadly staff not always accurate re veg. items - Edit
Although this cafe used to have more veg-friendly choices, unfortunately the serving staff is not always accurate regarding what is vegetarian nor do they always know much about which items are vegan. We have had the experience of seeing a soup listed as vegetarian on their posted menu, and then asking one staff (who thought it might have chicken stock) then another (who confirmed the soup was made with chicken stock).
