Phenomenal. So many yummy vegan options including pancakes, stuffed French toast and a bagel sandwich. Couldn’t have been happier. If I could give it 5 stars i would but happy cow doesn’t let you give that to places that aren’t full vegan or veggie

High quality vegan option (breakfast/lunch) - Edit
Our family has visited Hilton Head Island for many years each summer and discovered Watusi in Aug 2024. Went every day during a weeklong visit. The place is a gem in an area where Whole Foods closed its only store in summer 2024 and good vegan restaurant options are limited, or gourmet and expensive. Entrees priced at $35-40 are manageable for those arriving via private jet and/or tooling around in Range Rovers and Mercedes G class SUVs, yet for regular people it's a bit much.
Read moreWatusi offers vegans high quality food in a relaxed atmosphere, with acommodating staff, good service, indoor/outdoor seating, and they offer multiple options so you don't feel locked into the same dish each visit. As with all restaurants, pricing for vegan dishes is higher yet that's a challenge everywhere. What can they do is suppliers charge then more for vegan ingredients? We prefer to pay a bit more vs having nothing at all . Most importantly, Watusi has mgmt/ownership who are present. They care about the estaurant and those it serves. It's not just a side gig business operated by absentee owners.
Pros: Variety of vegan dishes avail, Multiple non-dairy milks avail, They care about delivering quality food
Cons: once they ran out of certain vegan ingredients

Many vegan options - Edit
So glad we stopped in for breakfast while vacationing in Hilton Head. So many thoughtful vegan options are offered. The Mediterranean hash was hands down one of my best breakfast items I’ve ever had. The family had a vegan sandwich on a baguette and avocado toast with just egg. We so appreciate them putting thought into an inclusive menu for everyone.

Great Options! - Edit
Have been going here while on vacation for 3 years, ever since we discovered the vegan options on the menu. It is so hard to find vegan breakfast options on HHI. Watusi Cafe offers a Just Egg sandwich, burrito, snow pea and avocado toast, and vegan stuffed French toast. All are delicious!

Vegan options near Coligny Beach - Edit
I wanted to love this place, seeing all the great reviews. I ordered the Mediterranean Hash which sounded super exciting. It was okay but not my favorite.. pretty greasy and a bit under-seasoned.. I left wishing I’d ordered the vegan French toast instead. 🙁

Pros: Location!! Not too many vegan options in this area

Oh, I just had this and yes, definitely greasy but tasted like olive oil. Mine had tons to seasoning and flavor though. Wonder if they switched up the seasoning?

Amazing Vegan Breakfast! - Edit
I was impressed by the variety of vegan breakfast options available at this restaurant! We ordered the vegan bagel sandwich, hash browns, and French toast, and everything was delicious. The vegan options were clearly labeled, and they had plant-based milks available for lattes. However, they didn't have many vegan dessert options, just a chocolate chip cookie. The atmosphere was delightful, and the service was quick!

Wish I could give this place 5 stars. Stuffed vegan French toast? Vegan egg scrambles? Avocado toast with Just Egg? Options galore! I wanted the French toast but ordered the Mediterranean hash which had eggplant, veggies, hash, Just Egg, and fake feta and tasted incredible! I almost licked the plate clean. Love this place, gotta go back to Hilton Head to try the French toast!

Nice vegan options - Edit
The menu clearly identifies vegan options, there are several. I ate there twice, had the strawberry cream cheese stuffed French toast, the bagel sandwich with peppers, spinach, vegan cheese and Just Egg. I did make the mistake of trying to piece together my own bagel sandwich A la carte without the peppers and spinach. It was more expensive that way and it wasn't good. It wasn't t very hot and the cheese wasn't melted. My husband is vegetarian and had the Mediterranean. He said it was very flavorful, lots of rich flavors. They also have a coffee menu and have vegan milk options.

Mediterranean hash =delicious - Edit
The sauce on top of the eggs is really good -- some kind of slightly tangy creamy sauce with a bit of herbs in it. Reminds me of aiolis. Just egg was great, feta wasn't super feta-y and there wasn't a ton but it was nice. The portion felt a bit small, especially for $16. I like the kalamata olives and micro greens (wouldn't mind more of those!). They have several hot sauces and little paper ketchup containers on request.

All of their vegan food is so good. I got the mediterranean hash with “Just Egg” and no cheese, a latte with oat milk and a smoothie. All their coffee drinks and smoothies can be made with almond, soy or oatmilk.

Wonderful cafe - Edit
The sit down cafe portion of this establishment is wonderful. Plethora of vegan options and well-explained meat/dairy options that can be made vegan. Food is delicious and service was great. Prices (especially for HH) were very reasonable. And breakfast all day? Yes please. The quick grab portion of this establishment is a bit of a different story IMO. They have one vegan bagel sandwich option and one vegan baked good option (chocolate chip cookie). They look like what you would expect from a grab-n-go counter and the cookie tasted not great. Service in this area did not compare to the service received on the restaurant side of the establishment. Stick with the sit down cafe.

Mixed Review - Edit
We were so excited to visit this cafe because of how vegan friendly it appeared. The atmosphere is welcoming and adorable, and the menu was enticing - there were several clearly vegan options that sounded divine! Breakfast is our jam, and we saved this place for our last morning as a treat. We ordered the Mediterranean hash, the stuffed French toast, and a vegan pancake. The pancake arrived first and had bacon on it, so they took it back to the kitchen. Next came the hash which was beautiful and I highly recommend! Finally, after the rest of our party was served, we were approached and told the pancake was being remade. When we asked about the French toast we were informed they were out. A waffle with strawberries was ordered in its stead, which arrived near the end of the meal. The food is pricey, with many additional charges for vegan options, but it all tasted great and was good quality. All this to say, I’m glad we went, even though it wasn’t quite what we hoped.

Disappointing - Edit
I was so excited to try this place because there are not too many vegan options in Hilton Head.
Read moreWe ordered the vegan breakfast sandwich and the veggie breakfast burrito. They use just egg, which I like, but I’m not crazy about the texture unless it’s well done. We both asked for the eggs to be very well done. They came out way too underdone, same with the hashbrowns. The cheese wasn’t even melted on the breakfast sandwich. There was a piece of a wooden stick or toothpick about 2 inches long in the eggs on the sandwich so my fiancé didn’t eat it. We told the waitress and she apologized and took it away. But we still paid for it. Breakfast for two was $47 before tip. Definitely not worth it. Very disappointing.
Pros: A few vegan options
Cons: Expensive for breakfast

3.5 - Edit
I was excited to bring my dog with me and adored the separate dog menu. But I was disappointed that after an hour drive to get there they were out of Just Egg which resulted in 75% of the vegan options to be unavailable. I’m guess that’s a good sign… the higher demand for vegan options may encourage them to stay better stocked in the future or have more options that don’t rely on this ingredient. My sandwich was ok. No vegan dessert options at all but the waitress says there is sometimes. So again, I guess I just had bad timing so next time I will call ahead before I make the drive. Server was very nice.
