Amazing

Delicious food!! Been there twice now and loved it both times. I eat vegan and gluten free which hasn’t been a problem, they adjust the menu if necessary.
P.S. for 10 euros you get the regular decent sized portion, but I’d definitely advise the large portion for 12,50 ‘cause it’s so good you’ll want more :)

Pros: Delicious vegan things I hadn’t had before, Anarchist collective, Gluten free made possible

Cons: Closed Sun-Tues

Political , delicious

Great place!
Lot of food for a little money. A lot of different things on a plate. Choice of starter and desert. Very tasty.

The place itself is worth visit. Unfortunately when I was there none event was on and the book shop already closed. Well, next time!

1 menu & very low price

Not as busy as De Blauwe Aanslag used to be probably because of the location but just a few tramstops from trainstation Holland Spoor and near the Zuiderpark.
It is a former school building which I find charming.
The food is really good homecooked no fuss, and the restaurant team is all very friendly.
Just remember tot bring cash with you.
I would also like a website to look at the menu for the day. Maybe in the future?

Oh and what Knorbel said, places like this deserve our support.

Pros: Bring your dog, outside eating in summer , friendly people

Cons: .

Here you can get a great organic and vegan 3 course menu for a very affordable price. The owners are really nice and the atmosphere is so good. Just very relaxing, everyone (including dogs) is welcome 💚

Delicious food in a cozy place

Water en brood serves delicious home cooked food in a very cozy environment. Everything about this place makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside! Very reasonably priced (10 Euro p/p) for a three course meal; soup or baguette and herbed butter for entrée, a mix of five diff dishes for the main, and a dessert). The dogs roaming around were a huge bonus (:

Support this place

Great location and political place. Best food we found here. Not many choices, but all is vegan and you also get a delicious dessert to your choice. Price is nine Euro per portion and the location is great to hang out. The people who cook and serve are friendly.

Water en Brood is back in town!

This place has been around for ages and it was one of the first fully vegan places in The Netherlands (or maybe even the first place?) . Rooting in the sqatter and autonomous scene it reopened twice at different locations after the original building, the famous "Blauwe Aanslag" was torn down. The concept is still the same: they offer a vegan organic 3-course dinner for a very affordable price. People of all ages and from different backgrounds get together here for a good meal or just a drink (they have good beer, too). The staff is very friendly and the food is good and always well balanced. " Water en Brood" (= Water and Bread") is legendary and it definitely played an important role in the vegan history of The Netherlands.

Pros: good food, inexpensive, nice vibes

Good food, good price

I liked the food very much. You get a whole menu and you can choose between a small or normal portion. Even for people with a gluten free allergy, they do their best and prepare a very good dish. For the price you pay, you get value. The only negative is that after some time, people started to smoke and while eating, dogs were running around.

Pros: Price/value, Good food, Friendly

Cons: Smoking after some time, Dogs around while you eat

Great vegan/organic food

Great, informal vegan and organic restaurant.

The style leans a bit towards the classic organic or health-food. Menu's are composed of vegetables, some sort of grain, tofu or tempeh, salad and sometimes a deep-fried bite. It's not my favorite style of food, but it's done very well here.

Like other reviewers said, the quality of the food can differ a bit depending on the people working that night. But I've never had a bad meal here. If the range goes from good to great I'm not complaining!

Prices are very good. This place is more about sharing ideals, puting them into practice and the love of good food than it is about making money. And you'll definately notice that.

The place is so popular that on days with good weather you'll have to make reservations early, because otherwise they'll be full. Which also says something about the quality of the experience here... Nothing better than sitting outside on a nice day, looking out over the harbour and sea, and having great vegan food.

The only downside is that it can be a bit crowded and loud inside on some nights when the weather is not good enough to eat outside. Since a year or so the restaurant is non-smoking though, so at least the air is fresh.

Overall my favorite place in the city.

Pros: Vegan , Cheap, Nice informal atmosphere

Cons: A bit out of the way

Nice food

A bit of an alternative place, though not like others. For about 11 euros you'll have a 3-course meal and a drink. Portions aren't large, but they're neither small. Quality of the food differs very much though, sometimes I've been disappointed, sometimes they served very inspirational food. Best to visit in summers, when you can sit outside and visit the beach before or after your meal.

Pros: inexpensive, organic ingredients

Cons: far away, hard to reach without a bike, quality of the food differs

Food and a beach walk

Water and Bread is an alternative place in The Hague (Scheveningen). They have good (organic) food for a fair price (< €10,-, 3 course menu), for everyone.
Great thing about this place is the view when you sit outside. You look into a part of the harbor, and during summer evenings with a sunset this is a great view to enjoy with a beer and a meal.

Food tastes good, and the service is good. They don't come to the table, you have to order at the bar.
You have to make a reservation and they don't accept cards, cash only.

Pros: great view, alternative, close to the beach

Alternative place down by the docks

If you've checked out this place on Google Streetview then you'll be forgiven for concluding that it doesn't exist - the address doesn't show anything resembling a restaurant, just sparse docklands. But I can assure you that it does exist - it's around the back - and it's quite nice.

We called to make reservations (as instructed to on here) and turned up at 8pm to find the place full of people dining. At first, we were ignored by the staff, which we found off-putting. There we were, two confused foreigners in a restaurant in a strange location, where the usual restaurant system doesn't apply, and we had to wait for several minutes to get someone's attention and ask how it all works. Essentially, you place your order at the bar (there's only one set meal anyway) and then sit down, and they bring it to you, except drinks (which you collect yourself).

The range of drinks on offer was good, including coffee, hot chocolate and juices, and everything is guaranteed vegan. The food was very nice - soup for starter, a seitan-filled pancake with green beans and salad for main course, chocolate and coconut pudding to finish - and the staff warmed up after their initial coolness, too.

The prices are very low - you can eat and drink like a king for ten euros per person.

The feel of the place is very alternative - informal, lots of political stuff, customers bring their dogs inside, the Clash on the stereo, etc. - so it's not a traditional restaurant, but very nice all the same. It's a bit out of the way but it's the only all-vegan place for miles so it's worth the journey out there.

Pros: all-vegan, very cheap, good food and drink

Cons: location, could be a bit confusing, only one set menu per day

UPDATE: It's no longer the only all-vegan place in this part of the world, there's a new restaurant in The Hague called Veggies on Fire. Price-wise it's at the other end of the scale, but it's more up-market too. I'm sure the two restaurants will co-exist peacefully, as they each have a very different style.

Very nice!

Nice place! It is quite alternative, please don't expect a proper restaurant. Smoking permitted, so don't go there, if this is a no-go for you. food is excellent.
it's a place for political activists.
they have no website, because house is a squat.

Pros: excellent food, big portions, nice price

Cons: smokers

great spot

Note: not open on Mondays. This place was an oasis amidst a desert. Well, not "amidst"--I had to walk 2 miles/3 k each way to get there. But it was worth it. Very generous portion size for my vegan entree. Entree plus one bottle of beer was less than 15 euros (before tip, which I don't know if I'm supposed to do here--but I did give about 3 euros).

An unexpected big surprise!

This is a restaurant you won't believe, yes, it's THAT good. The ambiance is simple, but wow, the food is delicious and 100 % vegan. Been there twice, but plan to go regularly now. The price is very modest compared to what you get.
This is no simple food, it comes from cooks who know what they're doing.
You get a three-course menu, and every part of it is worth while. The soup, the main meal, the cake (or whatever they're offering).
This cake was really a piece of heaven...

So go there, find it, eat it. You won't be sorry!

Pros: Delicious food!, 100 vegan!, Cheap

Cons: Sober ambiance
