Great place to eat - Edit
I love Walnut Grille. It isn't 100% vegan but it is vegetarian. Almost all dishes can be made vegan, however. They also cater to Gluten Free needs. The food is excellent and the service is good. They have excellent deserts and smoothies. I recommend the Blue Moon smoothie, and if you go on the right night, the Zebra Cake is to die for! All in all a wonderful restaurant.

Filling and fresh - Edit
Was in the neighborhood and hungry. Stopped in for lunch. Atmosphere was clean and upscale looking. It was the tail end of their lunch time so I was the only patron there. There were a variety of choices on the lunch menu. It wasn’t clear that you could make the vegetarian options vegan, but seemed not a problem when I asked. I went with the tempeh Reuben with sweet potato fries. Food was fresh and filling. I was satisfied but wouldn’t say it’s anything fantastic to make a special trip for. Probably a good staple to have in your neighborhood if you are a local vegetarian or vegan.

Tasty !! - Edit
I got the tempeh reuben sammie (came with sweet potato fries),
Read moreGobi Manchurian, side of chickun strips, and side of grilled tofu for like $40.
It was all pretty good!
Sammie was good even though I usually do not like tempeh.
The sides we ok...the tofu was too squishy and the chickun coulda used more flavor or some kinda dip or sauce.
Butttt I loveedddd the Gobi !!!
It was so good...not overwhelming spicy.
This place is probly worth a special drive for a date night.
They even have a parking lot in the rear to use...if its not filled up.

Update, 12/9/22. Just a heads up, they changed menu but it’s not on website yet so call before ordering take-out. Hopefully they’ll fix it soon!
Read morePrevious review from 2020. I live in Newton, I’m vegan, and eat here often! Still has in-person dining, even during the pandemic. Take-out is great. It’s vegetarian but most dishes are vegan or can be made vegan. My meat-eating friends love this place! All food is excellent. Friendly staff. Nice, comfortable place. Great juices and vegan desserts too!

Fantastic - Edit
We split the Gobi Manchurian and the samosas - I had been craving samosas and both appetizers were excellent. I had the chick'n picatta for an entrée; huge dish with tons of sauce, capers, and mushroom, and a very filling soy cutlet.
Read moreStaff were very nice and attentive on a fairly busy evening. Good prices for the portions - $12 for the Gobi, which I thought was a little high for cauliflower, $7 for two samosas, and then ~$20 for the entrees.
My one complaint is that though it is nice that they label which wines are vegan, it's pretty sad to see one white and two reds and the rest not vegan. I wasn't feeling a chardonnay or a red blend, so I passed 😅
Pros: Many vegan options , Good atmosphere , Off street parking behind the building!
Cons: More vegan wine options please!

So many choices!! - Edit
All I can say is wow. Everything we ordered was spectacular. We got the gobi manchurian appetizer and I got the tofu tikka masala. The texture of the tofu reminded me so much of paneer, which is something I’ve missed a lot after going vegan. Anyway, we also had the seitan chicken picatta and seitan Marsala. The seitan texture was so reminiscent of chicken and the flavors of each dish were spot-on. Very nice vibe and super friendly staff as well.

We ate lunch here on a Monday when there were two other tables occupied. The service was just okay, and so was the food overall. The cream of mushroom soup special was delicious(and vegan), and the vegan meatballs were pretty tasty, but my husband’s burrito was completely bland, and definitely not worth the $2.50 up charge for vegan cheese. The vegan BLT I ordered never arrived. We probably wouldn’t bother eating here again.

Always Delicious - Edit
Love this restaurant. Always consistently delicious. Love the Gobi Manchurian, I brought my kids this time and they even loved it. We also had the nachos. I'm vegan and this is something that isn't always easy to find. They are the best vegan nachos around. My kids loved the pizza. I tried the butter nut squash soup it was delicious and I was able to get it with gluten free bread. My husband tried the Thai Res Curry and liked it. He's not vegan/vegetarian but can always find something he likes on their menu. Definitely a great place especially if you are vegan or gf.

Pretty good - Edit
This place was good, but I thought I could have made something at home that was better. For that reason, it only gets 4 stars. We got the lentil lasagna and the sweet potato pizza. The pizza needed balsamic or more sauce so that it would be more balanced. We also got the carrot cake, which was surprisingly good if not a bit dry.

I dream of Walnut Grille - Edit
My family lives in nyc where there is no shortage of delicious vegan food, and when we visit Newton to see my husband’s family Walnut Grille is our spot! The food is INCREDIBLE!! The chicken picatta is what dreams are made of (even our non-veg relatives love it and can’t understand how it looks and tastes so much like chicken). We didn’t think anything could be better until we tried the nutty tofu! The red thai curry and the marsala are also delicious. We are big fans!
