Read moreDie Atmosphäre ist auch sehr nett und obwohl am Wald und dem Waldsee gelegen kann man mit der Straßenbahn in die Nähe fahren und muss nur etwa 5min dorthin laufen.

Wir sind in Erwartung eines Biergartens mit schönem Ausblick zum Waldsee gekommen. Dass das Restaurant auch viele vegane Gerichte auf der Karte hat, die zudem noch richtig lecker sind, war die positive Überraschung des Tages 😁

Very nice terrace. I had the pasta, it was finally a big enough portion and tasted very good. Unfortunately only one vegan dessert, raspberry ice-cream. But several vegan dine options at the moment.

Read moreThe location of this restaurant is just beautiful. It‘s situated at a little lake, so if you sit outside, you have a very nice view. The atmosphere was wonderful.
There are several vegan options, such as a tarte (Flammkuchen), a burger, a curry and roast potatoes with a tofu sandwich.
My husband chose the tofu burger while I had the tarte. We enjoyed the food a lot. The tarte was done with soy cream, smoked tofu, champignons and roasted onions, and it tasted very well. The tofu burger was exceptional, too!
After our dinner, we strolled around the lake, which was a pleasant finish.
I recommend this place if you are looking to leave the hustle of Freiburg for an evening.

A gem for vegan regional food - Edit
The South-West of Germany is well-known for Flammkuchen, yet the normal version of the dish is not vegan - here, both veg*s and omnis will be satisfied. The vegan menu is satisfying and well-labelled. Also, the setting next to the lake uppens the food experience here - justifying the relatively higher prices.

Wir waren am Abend essen und hatten eine tolle und bunte Auswahl an veganen Vor- und Hauptspeisen. Man konnte zwischen diversen deftigen Gerichten, Flammkuchen oder einem Tofu-Burger wählen. In der Karte ist ersichtlich, welche Gerichte vegan sind. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich, aufgeschlossen und zuvorkommend. Für Heißgetränke gibt es Sojamilch. Die Lage ist traumhaft mit einer tollen Terrasse direkt am See.

There was only on vegan option at lunch time : a vegan sausage curry with fries... I really hate paying for someone to take sausages out of a package, curry sauce out of a bottle, mix them up and add (frozen) fries to it...

Waldsee has a really good reputation in Freiburg, it is more gourmet food than anythingelse. I only went there because friends of mine with children were staying on the campsite next to the restaurant. As a vegan i did not expect much, if anything... it is traditional seasonal food, so meat orientated... but to my surprise the waitress knew what vegan was and was positive the chef could do something for me. I got a very nice plate including asparagus... it was a few months ago, i just remembered being impressed by the service and the fact i got something gourmet looking rather than the usual sad looking mixed veg. Do go! Not cheap but worth the experience.
