sweet cafe

Hours confirmed by owner on May 28, 2023:
Open 11am-4pm Wednesday to Sunday (closed on Monday and Tuesday)

We tried both the vege curry and vege burger, chai and latte with soy milk. All was tasty. The small bites (pickled veggies etc.) that came on the side were so tasty. The cafe is conveniently located on the bus line right across from the cemetery so a good spot to eat and chill before or after a walk in the magical cemetery.

As others have mentioned, the cafe has limited seating. We sat outside by choice (nobody else was at the cafe at the time) which was lovely. It’s also run by one person, the owner, so if it’s busy it might take some time to get your food. But the wait is worth it!

Only complaint is that it is a little pricey and the food may come out slow. Cash only.

Pros: Delicious , All vegan

Cons: Pricey

Very nice!

The cafe is run by a very friendly older lady. There are very few places in Japan where you can have a nice lunch in the middle of the woods. The burger and the curry were delicious and quite filling. A only minus point is that the place is really small and only has a few seats.
Fully vegan according to the owner.

Food was good but long wait and very cold inside

When we came for lunch at 12:30 the restaurant seemed to still be closed, but the lady hesitantly waved us to sit down. It was ice cold in the restaurant. When we asked her if she could turn on the heater (that was standing in the middle of the room) she just said “no oil, sorry” and went back to the kitchen. It is fine if things like this happen, but we wished that she at least offered some blankets or tea, since we were waiting around 30-40 minutes for the food (we were the only guests). The curry and burgers were delicious but I think 1500 yen is quite expensive for a plate of curry with rice and a tiny salad.

Pros: Healthy vegan food

Cons: Expensive

Service with a smile!

Amazing vegan burgers and curry, served by the sweetest cafe owner. She is vegan and makes her own soy milk for the cappuccinos at the end of the meal (enjoy with one of her incredible vegan scones!!). Went with our family of four.

Closed Mondays

Didn’t actually get to eat here- went by and it was closed Monday lunchtime. No posted hours- but clearly the hours on Happy Cow are wrong. Maybe next time someone eats there they can ask for the correct hours and update it.

Delicious food

Tiny cafe but was not busy when we went on a rainy day. Best vegan burger I've had that was not trying to be a "meat" burger. Nice break from the temple food we had been eating for the last couple of days, but still clean, delicious food. The chef/owner was in her house when we arrived, so if this happens to you just call out loudly and she will come out.

Very small but not bad 😀

Food and service were good. Only downside is the size. Inside it will only sit about 4. There are some seats outside but the weather has to cooperate with this.

Delicious

We had a veggie burger which was very nice. A small restaurant with a very kind lady, who speaks English. You should go if you are in Koya-San!
