Organic, Gluten Free and Vegan

We were excited to try this place just for the nachos alone, which did not disappoint! Large portion, tons of flavor and pretty cool that the “meat” crumbles were made from walnuts. The fettuccine was good but we asked for some alterations which they messed up on. They quickly fixed it after we mentioned it. The breaded tofu on top was great! A little salty, but since the noodles were not salty they balanced out. It’s a cute place with good music playing from the 90’s which wasn’t too loud so we could hear each other talk. Clean bathrooms! Decent service but a tad slow and short staffed. A smallish menu with high prices. Also, if you add guac to your nachos it’s $5 more. Same for adding mushrooms to the fettuccine, $5 extra. The desserts didn’t impress me. I guess because I like gluten, the textures were too dense and mealy for my taste. We sampled the cookies & cream cake, rainbow carrot cake, lemon loaf and toffee truffle. I enjoyed the truffle but the rest, not so much. The cookies & cream cake was moist but had an off-putting flavor. The carrot cake had yummy spices but it was dry. The lemon loaf was a dry brick but had good lemony flavor. All of the desserts sans cookies and brownies are kept cold so the temperature wasn’t optimal for eating enjoyment. Overall though, this place is great for vegans who want gluten free as well.

Great vegan food!

The ginger tamari cauliflower wings were so amazing. Very flavorful and crispy. The mushroom melt was great too, although very messy! Lots of great desserts and friendly staff.

Cons: Parking

Will be back!

Always love a 100% vegan place. Attentive service, fresh flowers on every table. Warm, modern, inviting. I had the chicken alfredo and loved it! My friend enjoyed the mushroom melt sandwich. We both loved the bbq cauli wings with blue cheese dressing. You can get a personal 8” pizza for under $20, but the other apps and entres are $20-30

It Will Do

I've been here probably about 5 or 6 times over the last three years, including today. I know this is vague and not that helpful, but I'm just never that excited about any of the menu items. Then when I get whatever I order, it is fine -- sometimes good -- but never amazing. Their service is the same, fine but just a bit slow all the time. You won't have to wait for too long for them to refill your water, for example, but you'll have to wait a little at least. The prices for most dishes are now in the $20+ range. I know the cost of labor is high and I know they use organic ingredients. But the price, combined with everything else just does not get me excited about this place. If you need somewhere in Tacoma, it will do. The deserts, when I've tried them, have been good. Probably the next time I'm in the Proctor District, I'll go to the nearby Peaks and Pints beer hall for their killer vegan sandwich and a beer, and then come to Viva for a dessert.

Pros: Good deserts, Organic, Dishes inspired by a variety of traditions

Cons: Price, Service, No wow factor

Warm staff, good food, very clean and cozy restaurant.

When I walked in the waitress was warm and welcoming. I told she I am recently vegan and needed help deciding. I got the Thai peanut cashew stir fry with extra sauce and extra mushrooms. It was amazing. I could only eat half, I’m excited to have half for tomorrow’s lunch. #Veganuary

Pros: Good food, Friendly employees, Clean, comfortable atmosphere

Great dessert

I really enjoyed the lemon loaf and salted Carmel. The mushroom melt was ok, tasted basically like cheesy bbq mushroom sandwich, it came with an onion soup to dip which was nice (but I spilled it oops)

Good but overpriced

I’ve been going to viva for just over 3 years now. Food has always been good but the prices have gotten ridiculous for the portion size. Paid $21 for a small plate of their cauliflower wings, about 8 total pieces. I just can’t justify buying anything other than the nachos or Mac at this point. If you have a ton of money this is the place to go though!

Pros: Tasty, Varied menu, Gréât service

Cons: VERY overpriced, Small portions

Impressive Dessert Selection!

Nori “crab” dip was great, and it was great to have a vegan fettuccine alfredo. Dessert case has a broad selection and all were gluten free.

So many desserts

I loved the peppermint patty truffle, lemon cake (so moist), chorizo scramble, nachos, and chickun and waffles. Other things were good, but I probably wouldn’t order again (brulee french toast, breakfast burrito, biscuits and gravy, wings, brownie sandwich). The mushroom melt was really not to my taste though. Looking forward to trying more desserts!

Note that, on weekends, only breakfast is served until noon, and only from noon are the other menu items available to order. Although the portions are big, the items are really expensive

Bold flavors

Great to have a restaurant where all dishes are vegan and gluten-free. All dishes have bold flavors, which can make for a great experience - though, if the flavor combination is not to one’s liking, can also be too intense. I personally really liked the nachos supreme with all the different flavors and textures, and it’s a big portion. The ginger tamari wings, the fettuccine and the stir fry were also really to my taste. However, the mushroom melt had way too much garlic and balsamic vinegar leading to a pungent taste. They have a wide selection of creative desserts as well. On the slightly more expensive side.

Pros: Breads and cakes are also gluten free, Friendly staff

Allergic reaction to food and no compensation

Very poor customer service. I was extremely disappointed. I ordered a pizza from Viva Tacoma and it came with jalapeños, which was not disclosed on the online menu. I am allergic to jalapeños and had an allergic reaction to the pizza. After calling and speaking to the manager, then the owner herself, they gave no refund and did not offer to remake the pizza. I had heard good things about this restaurant, but my customer service experience was ruined when they did nothing to fix the situation even though I had an allergic reaction. After working in customer service for 8 years, I know standard is to offer a refund or remake the food in a situation such as this. I genuinely did not expect such disrespect.

Cons: Poor customer service, Ingredients not fully disclosed, High prices with low quality

Nacho supreme reign supreme

We stumbled upon Viva while in Tacoma, and we were not disappointed. We ordered the Nacho supreme and we were so happy with the meal. The flavors were outstanding, no kidding, best nachos we’ve had. Oh, and it’s a nacho mountain, they do not skimp on the serving. We also ordered the French dip, and the mushroom meat was fantastic. Staff was friendly and attentive. We will be back for more!

Pros: Food, Staff, Cleanliness

It was alright

I wanted to love this place but found it just ok. The lemon truffle was the best thing we got. The Mac and cheese and the hummingbird cake were fine but not great. My friend was underwhelmed by their nachos.

Pros: Friendly service, Nice dessert display case

10/10 :)

This restaurant is really excellent! The food was awesome. I had a burger with salat, sooo good. There was nothing, that bothered me in any way. Even the desert was great. A warm brownie with vanilla ice cream. Ah, I am in love! :)

Overall: Perfect restaurant for vegans, as well for non vegans.

Pros: very clean (no dirt, etc.), friendly service, good marks (with nuts, etc.)

Another Happy Cow Find😃

Nice to find a vegan place while on vacation. And it’s even gluten free.
A fair amount of choices too. I went for the tacos off the special board.
4 tacos on a bed of shredded lettuce, sauces and a Pico de Gallo on top.
Tacos were crunchy, I did cut them with a fork cause it would have been messy.
Could not pass on dessert. Cookies & cream cake. Usually the cakes look better than they taste.
This was not the case. Cake was moist and really good.

Quality has gone down while prices have gone up

I have been going to Viva since 2017, and overall their food is not great now. The only reason they get two stars instead of one is because their deserts are still good. The last time I went I got the chick'n alfredo and my friend got the mac and cheese with garlic bread. The alfredo overwhelmingly tasted of coconut which is probably the base for the sauce but mixed with the garlic it was nasty. The Tofu chick'n was also super salty, like it was inedible because of how salty it was. Then my friends garlic bread was decent but nothing special. And the mac and cheese was greasy and bland. When we asked the server for the check and said we needed no boxes for the large amounts of food we didn't eat she didn't even ask if we didn't like it or if something was wrong. If you have to go, get an appetizer and desserts. The peanut butter bars are still good.

Incredible food!

Amazing vegan food in an upscale atmosphere. Quite possibly one the best vegan restaurants I've been to. The menu items are pricey but it is understandable given the size of the restaurant and the top notch quality of food. I will definitely be heading back here a couple more times before I leave the area.

Pros: Absolutely amazing food!, Fancy and nice atmosphere!, Good size portions

Cons: Expensive

Too pricey

Really wanted to like this place. I’ve been here two or three times? Every time for ordering two items maybe three items it ends up being $60 without tip. I feel like that’s ridiculously over priced. The food quality is not that great, it lacks a lot of flavor. The service is really good but I probably won’t try again.

Pros: Gluten free beer, Service, Location

Cons: Lacking flavor, Way over priced
