A good place with a lot of potential, bad management - Edit
The penzion Novina is a vegan-based penzion. It's an old house which has new owners and they haven't done any refreshment of the rooms and bathrooms.
Read moreThe food is all vegan and you can order additional meals but you need to say in advance. For example, on breakfast to tell them you want a salad for dinner. The portions were really small at dinner but when a new staff member came to change the old ones, the portions weren't that small. Strange, huh?
The breakfast was so little that you had to go first or nothing would be left for you. Again, when the new staff member came the portions weren't that small. She was very nice.
The breakfast is vegan yogurt, fake cheese and sausages, a few fruits and veggies (which is sad) and some oats, etc.
The dinner is a soup, main dish (which was a small portion) and when the new staff member came we had some desserts e.g. chia pudding. She was so sweet and kind that if it wasn't for her, I'd leave 2 stars of this place.
Pros: Vegan food, Beautiful nature
Cons: Old rooms, Small food portions, mainly junk vegan food

Paradise - Edit
At the end of the historic, picturesque village Krystofovo Udoli, on the hill, you will find a beautiful wooden house with a vegan paradise inside. One can rent a room or apartment with a spectacular view and the food (breakfast and dinner) are amazing. If you want to lose some weight – don’t come here! Breakfasts are very much nutritive and filling. For example, I remember a salad with a vegan „ham” and mayonnaise. Huge cookies as the dessert – the one filled with nuts was awesome! For the dinner – always soup and 2 dishes to choose from. We had spicy lentil soup. My boyfriend had an absolutely unique goulash and I took shashliks wih delicious vegan mayo. A paradise for vegans. I really, highly recommend.
Read moreAfter writing this review, I came across the other reviews and I want to express my own feelings. Yes, the staff couple were not speaking any language besides Czech, but they were super friendly and helpful! We didn’t need words to communicate with them😄Also the dog was very friendly.
We had splendid spacious apartment with a renovated comfortable bathroom, very clean.
There was only one issue - water was temporarily non drinkable. Therefore guests were provided with bottled water.
The food – yes, it is fatty, but so is the Czech cuisine. In Poland we used to eat more raw vegetables, salad as the side dish for dinner, and this was the only thing I missed a little bit. Otherwise everything was fine, even great. I still remember the staff waving us goodbye and it was very touching.

Disappointed - Edit
Do you fancy a stressful and anxious holiday? If so, this place is for you!
Read moreWe stayed in August 2019 for 8 days.
Rooms. Outdated and if you love dog hair, you’ll be in heaven! Bathrooms are mouldy and WC not available on the ground floor where the dining room is situated.
Staff. Rude and vulgar. Manners were taught by the owner after our complaint. Too little too late.
Food. Junk oily and fatty food served every day. With a dead fly on occasion. Food was buffet style and not enough was provided to cater for all the guests. If you were not in the dining room before 8am, hardly anything was left for breakfast. Stale bread, cut in slices to go further. The same breakfast items on offer day in day out, no change. Boring. We ended up buying our own food.
Dinners - we were shouted at by the staff when we’d arrived for dinner after 7pm one evening. (I mean how dare we?) Eventually, after we complained to the owner, dinners were served or kept on a designated table for the guests, so everyone had their proper portion. Again too little too late.
I was really looking forward to this holiday. But It was a nightmare from the start. Staff unwelcoming, behaving as we were a burden. Screaming and shouting during dinner and breakfast times, vulgar vocabulary during room tidying.
A request for a toilet paper, drinking water or a clean towel became a nerve-wracking exercise as you never knew what grimace or outburst you were going to get back.
In a way I’m glad this has happened as I was going to bring our yoga group here for a week. Phew, so glad I didn’t and unless the place gets under a new management I won’t be going back to this penzion. We’re going back to the area, just to a place where manners don’t have to be taught.
Note to self - also read tripadvisor reviews before booking anywhere.
Marked this place with two stars as it won’t let me do one or none.

Hi, I help with promotion for this house, and I am not happy to hear this. I have to say, that in August 2019 we had a problem with the staff, as normally a very skilled couple work at the place with very good references (90-95% guests are satisfied). There was a problem with this personal and so the lady was fired immediately because the guest were not satisfied. The building is older, but the mould should never be present, as all the rooms are cleaned properly. The disadvantage of the house is it´s being situated in the wilderness, so the food can´t be more fresh and also if you found a fly in a soup, also spiders are sometimes very fast (one day cleaned and second day the spiders are back etc), so it´s very hard to run this house to fulfil all the expectations of the guests. Anyway the manners, rudeness or bad work from the staff is never accepted, and so you probably were in the period this was happened - as another recension from July is positive and the same majority of the recensions at various websites.
Read moreI am sorry to hear this and have to say, that after these experiences with staff (and the problems are not when we are on place, but when the staff is alone to run the house, as it´s job for 1-2 people only), we don´t take any new staff anymore. For this summer, we already try to find a new colleagues now, so we could see their manners and skills fully in advance.
I am sorry again and I hope if you come next time, you will be satisfied as majority of the guests (when there are skilled colleagues as usual and not the new staff). Thank you.

Great vegan vacation - Edit
This is a wonderful place in the middle of nature. I did 10 days of vacation with my kids (8 and 6) and we enjoyed being in the woods.
Read moreBreakfast and dinner is served fully vegan. Especially the dinner is great with classical bohemian dishes served in vegan version.
Pension novina is well suited for children, the staff is super friendly with them and they can go playing outside easily.
A train station is just 10 minutes walk apart (Krizany) making the travel easy.
Pros: Vegan breakfast and dinner, By request another customer got cow milk, Lovely situated in nature

wonderful bohemian, cozy, all vegan place - Edit
The Penzion Novina is a really nice place to stay. The food was tasty and typical bohemian although it was 100 percent vegan. The house is cozy and is surrounded by a lot of wood. The staff is really obliging and there is a nice little wellness area!
Read moreYou can bring your dogs with you - for me this a con but for the other guests it was a pro.
Pros: great vegan food, nice staff, beautiful house with wellness area
Cons: the staff is only speaking Czech, there are a lot of dogs in the house
