Large portions and excellent food - Edit
Had Lunch today at the Vinh Ngiem restaurant - a vegan restaurant attached to the most important pagoda in Ho chi Minh City. We had White rice with cooked tofu in coconut sauce, silken tofu in tomato sauce and steamed veggies with soy sauce. Everything was outstanding

Magically, a number of elements combined to make this our favourite meal in Vietnam. The location in the courtyard of the Vinh Nghiem pagpda, with its large central Quán Âm statue, is peaceful. Inside the restaurant's large dining room, it's bustling. The walls have a pretty mural of storks and lotuses.
Read moreThe menu is vast. We chose the tender coconut tuber salad, with lots of fresh herbs and a very tasty dressing. The "pork" ribs were satisfyingly chewy with a rich, sticky, sweet marinade. Even the steamed vegetables were outstanding, and included okra, bitter melon, and some interesting leaves (perhaps pirella) alongside a deeply flavoured dipping sauce that was salty and spicy and super umami.
After dinner we also bought some beautiful statues from the store next door, also within the pagoda grounds, before a digestive walk along the river.

The food was ok but service lacking. We only had 2 meals and they forgot one. Meant one person was half finished before we could attract the waiters attention and get the other meal. Prices ok.
