This place turned out to be an accidental highlight of my weekend in Christchurch. I thought empanadas sounded good, turns out they’re REAL good! The service was friendly and smiley which, to me, does make a difference - especially in the morning. The coffee was also excellent, made with their own oat milk that they produce on site. It’s now one of those places I feel good recommending to my friends.

This place was a real treat if you are like us and are missing some of the taste of Latin American cuisine. We definitely got the best empanadas in quite a while here!
Read moreOur favorite was the mince and cheese one (meat is made out of lentils and the cheese from potatoes). They also have a little cabinet with vegan sweets. We tried the carrot cake and it was delicious.

That’s my favourite vegan spot in Christchurch. The whole place is run and all the food is made by the owner alone. He’s lovely and a very hard worker.

The items on the menu are great too. My favourite menu item is the quesadilla! It’s just perfection!
Veg’n Friends also does catering and we got food from them to be served at our wedding, it was success, even though most guests weren’t vegan themselves.
Highly recommend this little cozy place!

So happy to have picked this place for lunch on our drive through Christchurch. The food is amazing and the portions are substantial. I like to eat and need help finishing my delicious nachos. My partner got empanadas and would highly recommend these as well. We wish we didn’t live in Canada, we’d be back here weekly! The owner was so lovely, he wrote out recommendations of things to do while in Christchurch.

Veg*n Friends is the perfect name for this cute little cafe. Everything is vegan, and the owner, Chris, always gives us such a lovely welcome whenever we visit; which is often.

Lovely service, enjoyable setting and tasty chococino earned this place four stars. This was the first time I’ve found a vegan alfajores but there wasn’t as much filling as the many non-vegan ones I adored in Argentina (had an unhealthy obsession). The mushroom burrito needed much more flavour. The size of the burrito will see you through an active day however!

What a wonderful place this is, the homely feel, the friendly people and the delicious, homemade food. You can really tell that everything is made with love here, and that's what sets this place a part from a lot of places we've been to - everything is homemade from the heart. We tried nearly one of every cake, and our favourite three (in order from #1 - #3) were the Mocha Cake, Caramel Sponge and Banana Caramel Cake - but honestly, all of them are extremely good and worth mentioning that they all taste deliciously. We also tried the spanikopita which was SO GOOD! I could eat many more of those. We also had the cheese and mushroom empanada and the creamy corn empanada, both of which had great flavours and textures with a lovely pastry. When we return to Christchurch, we will be back!! #Veganuary
