great asian vegan food - Edit
We got takeaway food delivered in cbd from ubereats, food was all as ordered and still warm. Vegan prawn toast, veg spring rolls, chikn satay sticks, veg noodles and chikn curry. Food all tasty but curry too spicy for us. Mock meats great options. Cannot comment on resturant as didnt visit but close to casino in city in an area where no other vegan places which is great.

Cheap, extensive menu - Edit
Tried mock chick*n curry and mock crispy duck off the lunch menu. Serves of rice were very filling. Given prices the portions were the right size. Curry was spicy and adequately flavoured though I felt it lacked a bit of freshness/lightness that perhaps more vegetables could have provided. Liked the crispy mock duck but recommend ordering a liquidy item to mix with the rice. Second time ordered laksa which was also a large serve, and tasted similar to the curry chicken and could benefit from more variety of vegetables. I liked the seitan and tofu more in the laksa than the mock chik*n. Will return to try other menu items. Convenient location. Was a little lacking in atmosphere but service was fast and wasn't crowded when I visited.

The least fancy best place - Edit
We get food delivered from here embarrassingly often. Especially embarrassing given we live just round the corner and are too lazy to have ever even picked up our order let alone eaten in. This is that kind of place - the perfect food for when you just want to curl up on the couch and smash some lemon chicken. They have all the classic Australianised Chinese dishes made vegan, and one time we ended up with the wrong order and it was actual quality Chinese food, so they have that too. Their menu is pretty heavy on the mock meats, which are all excellent, but if you're not a fan of that there's plenty of tofu and vegetable type dishes too. The serves are generous sizes and pretty cheap. Some items are vegetarian not vegan, egg noodles etc. Nothing fancy but I have to give it 5 stars just because I keep coming back.

We went on a Friday evening at 7:00pm. It was quiet. Service was quick and the food was amazing. We will definitely be returning. The variety was incredible and all our dishes were delicious

Entree was great - Edit
I’ve been walking past this place for years and I finally tried it for lunch today. It’s a reasonable sized restaurant and has a lengthy menu. Vegan items are not separately identified on the menu and I asked how would I know and they said just to ask and they could modify it.
Read moreI had the satay chicken skewers. They were really tasty and I liked the sauce. I then had tofu and eggplant noodles. It was a big serving. The eggplant was delicious. I just felt that there was something missing in the flavour of the tofu and noodles.
I thought the prices were very reasonable. $18 for entree and main meal.

Great place to go when I’m in the city. My kids love it here. The crispy duck entree is amazing! And the tofu has to be tried. Really yum!

Vegie Kitchen offers an incredible range of traditional and westernized Chinese dishes, with mock meat.
Read moreAll my non-veg friends have come to prefer this place over meat serving Chinese restaurants, which i see as a win!
The mains are a bit expensive, but worth it. For a more cost effective option the lunch menu (available lunch and dinner) is very cheap and satisfying.
Staff are very nice people once you get to know them.
Pros: Curry Chicken is awesome

Choice - Edit
A huge variety of mock meat dishes, allowing them to cover a full menu that you'd expect from a chinese restaurant, such as fish, duck, beef, lamb and chicken, but also including straight veg and tofu meals.
Read moreVery tasty, quick and friendly service and its ducked away in a surprisingly quiet spot that is super close to the city action, but nice and quiet nonetheless.

Expensive but delicious - Edit
I get this on Uber eats. All the times I've ordered it's been closer to $100 than to $50 for 3 dishes.

Hey! I'm curious what you order that's >$30 per dish? Dishes off the "normal" menu are just under $20 as far as I remember... ($12 from lunch menu, $14 from dinner menu... yes I go there a lot) So what you order must be quite special?please share!

Pleasant enough..... - Edit
Went with non veg family including kids who were happy with the food. I personally would like more flavour, everything was fairly plain in taste except the curry puffs (which were Vincent's)

Fresh and Delicious - Edit
I found the decor pleasant and fresh, it was comfortable to dine here, as it is not too formal. We tried the set menu B2 and Singapore noodles. All the dishes from the set menu were delicious and fresh. The food came out very fast; a bit too filling with the soup. I especially loved the mock prawns and will be back to enjoy the prawns and fried rice again. Early Sunday evening was a good time, not too busy: very efficient service. I would recommend to friends, however the noodles were not to our liking, (hard, bland with mushroom) otherwise I would give five stars to Vegie Kitchen.

Food let down by staff - Edit
I have been coming to Vegie Kitchen (formerly Enlightened Cuisine) for about 9 years and it still has my favourite dish of all time - curry chicken. It has not changed at all and still remains supreme! All the food is really good and have had and attended many birthday dinners here. Unfortunately the experience is always ruined by one staff member who is quite rude and blunt every time. She has terrible customer service. What a shame. I find this food to be better than any other vegan places in the CBD or Southbank. Expect to have leftovers to take home.

Bland food - Edit
Very bland food, served by stone faced waiters. The place offers very little in atmosphere in general, with white tiles floors, white walls and fluo lighting. If you happen to be in the neighbourhood, try it of course, but no need to go out of your way - there are far more exciting vegetarian / vegan options available in Melbourne.

Enjoyable dinner - Edit
We had the fried wontons, mock chicken curry (with added vegetables) and the mock duck with plum sauce (with added vegetables) and fried banana with soy ice cream for dessert. It was all enjoyable, though reasonably expensive. Staff weren't sure if ice cream toppings were vegan, but were happy to answer questions and I appreciate honesty about being unsure about an answer. There's quite an extensive menu and I'd be keen to try some more of what they have on offer.

Not that great - Edit
Whole menu can be ordered vegan which is nice. The young waitresses were nice but the older lady (the owner I guess) was quite blunt and made me feel rushed by coming to my table while I hadn't decided what to order yet. She also decided I should order an appetizer because she started turning pages back for me on the menu while I didn't want to. The food was alright but for this price I expected just a little bit more, in terms of taste or quantity.

Friendly staff, my friend and I didn't realise the portion sizes where so big and ordered way too much food, but they are happy to give you take away containers or to bring your own for left overs and was still awesome tasting the next day!!

Great Veg Restaurant in CBD - Edit
It has been a while since EC was closed. Heard by word of mouth that the venue has re-opened with a new name. We dropped in for dinner last night and were delighted for a nice feed. Staffs were friendly, servings were generous, food was great. It's just great to have this restaurant back in serving nice vegan/vegetarian dishes.

Great Asian vegan food - Edit
Enlightened Cuisine has now re-opened as Vegie Kitchen. Menu is pretty similar with lots of vegan options marked. My partner loves the peanut 'chicken' satay sticks. We always order a bunch of mock meat dishes as well as tofu and some fried rice. It's a big restaurant with lots of tables so good for a large party. No split bills allowed.
