Small vegan restaurant in Chinatown on a crowded alley way. Menu changes, except for a few staples, such as mock pork, mock beef patty, satay, and local greens. Owner will explain what each dish is and how it is made. No gluten used in the making of the mock meats. Directions: From Glodok bus station, walk north on Jl Pintu Besar Selatan (toward Kota bus station), turn left at Jl Pancoran and walk down street for a couple of minutes, chinatown will be on your left, there are 2 alleyways that are part of Chinatown, turn left at the 2nd alleyway (the more narrow one), about halfway down the alley on the left. On the food display case at the front of the restaurant, it says vegetarian in big red letters. Open Tue-Sun 8:00am-3:00pm. Closed Monday.

Cute hidden restaurant, must see! - Edit
The food is homemade by the owner and his wife. Everything was very delicious and the owner loves to talk to you. He knows about happycow and loves when tourists visit. He and his family are vegan themselves and even have cute t-shirts which say vegan and peace etc.

Oh wow! - Edit
Finding this small place felt so good after wandering through the market filled with dead animals. The owner was super nice. He speaks good English and we ended up talking for quite a while about veganism, volcanoes and the meaning of life😄Great food, just let him set up a plate with a bit of everything, you won’t be disappointed. IDR 50.000 for a big plate of yummy food.

Best vegan food in town! - Edit
Going to this little and well hidden gem of a restaurant is always a special thing to me. Not only are the 100% vegan dishes certainly among the best that I've ever tried, you also get to enjoy the unique atmosphere in the narrow alleys of Glodok. The lovely owner will make sure that you leave full and happier than before, always carrying a big smile on his face. You can't help but be happy in this place. But be quick, many items will be sold out by afternoon ;)

Best Vegan Chinese Food - Edit
Quite simply the best Chinese Vegan food I have ever tasted and cheap as chips! It took me a while to find it, having had to ask locals but it was well worth the effort. I went for lunch but ended up taking away some for dinner as well. I wish I had taken more for my train ride th next day as well. The owner had very good English and was very knowledgeable. We had a very entertaining conversation about current affairs especially climate change!

Since stumbling upon this place a couple of years ago and quickly realising the owners' daughter was a work friend of mine, I've become a regular and drop in every week or so for a hearty plate of food and a good chat.

Amazing food - Edit
I saw this place on a video by Mark Weins, and knew I wanted to try it. It's absolutely amazing! I'm not a vegetarian, and this food was so tasty. It has a very meat-like texture, and hard to believe it's not. The owner is lovely, and so proud of the food he makes with his wife. Worth a visit for sure!

A lovely late lunch - Edit
Following a meandering stroll around the back streets of China Town I at last found this place (quite easily once I concluded that the tiny alley was where i was meant to be) just as Handi appeared to be closing up (due to road works). However, as he is lovely and saw my - but I wanted to eat here - look of dismay, he welcomed me in, assuring me (in very good English) that it was still possible to be served. I am very glad he did as both the meal and Chinese tea were delicious. Vegan as expected and nicely flavoured with varying degrees of spice (he did warn me which would be hotter) but none to such a degree that some rice and tea weren't suffice to restore tastebuds. In all a lovely meal made more enjoyable by Handi's company. My only warning would be that he appeared to be 'running out' of food by about 3 so worth visiting earlier in the day.

My friend and I visited Koh Handi's stall out of curiosity after watching a review on his food stall on Youtube. It was a little hard to find as the avenue the stall in does not have clear street signs, but it was worth it when we finally found it.
Read moreKoh Handy is a warm and friendly man, and he engaged us in a talk about many things throughout our visit there. He also explained each food served, what it would taste like and what it made of. Would definitely come back!

We discovered this warung through YouTube and decided we had to go exploring around Glodok/Pancoran in order to find it. After asking around for the tiny sidestreet and a fruitless search around the main Chinese market, we found it!! We chatted with P. Handi at length about his experiences and culinary delights; the rendang was especially good, made from mushrooms and definitely the best rendang I've ever had in Indonesia (the regular beef in classic rendang is usually tough; the mushroom meat substitute here was flavorful with a great mouthfeel). He even shared information about some upcoming local cultural events. He's absolutely amazing, and the food's even better! We'll see you soon, P. Handi!
