Terrific food, nice atmosphere

The criticism that this is a cult may be valid, because as others have mentioned there is a large portrait of the "Supreme Master" in the lobby, but there is no proselytizing or even religious pamphlets as far as I could see, and no TV extolling said the said master as exists in some "Loving Hut" restaurants. We ddi not feel uncomfortable in any way, except perhaps on the drive there (see below). One gets the impression that their veganism is from an religious/ethical point of view rather than purely health, but that is fine with me. The food however, is wonderful (we especially liked the "Rainbow" dish - presumably a vegan take off on a sweet & sour version of Rainbow trout complete with non-fishy delicately textured vegan protein wrapped in a seaweed skin decked with misc. vegetables and pineapple smothered in sauce). The staff are attentive without being intrusive. The neighborhood is rather sketchy however, with homeless people pushing carts and the restaurant parking lot is surrounded by a wrought iron fence with a gate that closes at 10pm IIRC. A sure sign of urban decay. However, all of the negatives are forgotten once you taste the food -- everything was good, servings were generous, and although I am not a foodie and seldom get too excited about any specific food, this place was memorably good.

Just…not good

I was very disappointed by my food. The main dish was bland and mostly lettuce, and the cauliflower was almost inedible. I didn’t think it was possible to make bad cauliflower bites—ever time I’ve had them in the past they’ve been somewhere on the spectrum from great to decent, but these were straight up bad.

Flavorful, delicious

Warning: only outdoor seating and no table service.

Pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. I ordered a Bun Hue and it came piping hot with plenty of items in the soup. I especially liked the faux beef (tofu strips). Packed with protein. Soup was spicy but relatively mild.

Spicy Cha Cha was the highlight. Crispy outside, shrimp-like inside, garlicky/oniony topping.

Overall a grade above most vegetarian asian fusion restaurants I've tried (and they are all good).

Very Tasty

The food was delicious. Unfortunately, I’m not a fan of ordering through the interwebs and impersonal service. Outside of that I’d eat here again.

Amazing and delicious!

This place is about 20 minutes away from us but we decided to do delivery since there's no dine-in. I expected it to arrive soggy. Everything was actually perfect. Ordered many things from the menu and nothing disappointed. Lots of options and everything was full of flavor. We will definitely be ordering from here again and again.

Pros: Flavor, Variety, Quality

Cons: No dine-in

Beautifully seasoned, but a weird experience

I got the quinoa tempeh bowl, which wildly exceeded expectations! It was so exceptionally tasty and well seasoned. I also ordered a raw vegan dessert, which was also lovely, but turned out to be a packaged Hail Merry treat instead of something made on site, which would have been good to know in advance.

Going there felt like walking back into 2020; the restaurant is closed to customers. You have to order at the window, and if you want to eat on site you have to eat in the tent out back. There IS a bathroom you’re allowed to use on the other side of the building, accessible from the street.

Pros: Tasty

Cons: Vibe

Our vegan pit stop before SF

We always stop by on the way into the peninsula for our fix of Asian vegan dishes. Big portions and always fresh! Get the spicy cha cha or eggplant tofu!

One of SJ's Staples

I'm glad I finally came to check off this final major vegan spot in San Jose because the food here is incredible. Their quinoa sushi roll ($11) was a fresh appetizer to kick things off. Following this, their piping hot Malaysian Curry Noodle ($13) gave me all the reminders of laksa that I had missed since going plant based.

Our favorites were definitely the Spicy Cha Cha ($16), lightly deep-fried flour crescents with a delicious coated seasoning, and their Queen's Joy ($13) which was soy protein cooked in their house sauce was to die for. The last dish was the closest thing to meat I've had in a long time, and it really gave me those vibes (which is quite eerie)!

What I also appreciate with their orders is that they also pack in a lot of veggies. For all our dishes, there was a handful side of greens from slaw to romaine cuts. It really helps knowing that you're enjoying food that is likely a bit unhealthier than home cooking. I also LOVE that they have a low-salt option. Trust me, you can forego some of the sodium and still have a delicious meal.

Pros: Outdoor seating, Online ordering is easy

Cons: Pricy

Service isn’t great, food is average

We ordered 5 items: 4 were average tasting, 1 was good. I asked for a cup of ice and the lady refused because the ice was in another room. Not sure why she couldn’t go to the other room to get it…?

The food is relatively pricey. Overall this place is not bad, but I was definitely disappointed because I came here with high expectations.

Fresh and interesting

I ordered the Heavenly Salad and the Quinoa Sushi. The salad was fresh and "hit the spot" but, as someone else had suggested, wasn't particularly unique (in fairness, I don't eat garlic or onions so I might have missed the whole package) The sushi however, was worth the trip! It was fresh, interesting with just a little kick. Not sure I could identify all the flavors but it was surprisingly complex. As a big fan of vegan sushi, I highly recommend.

Pros: Fresh, Interesting, Easy ordering

Cons: Walk up window in an Arco Parking lot, Not the best part of town

Great good period!!

My wife & I have been coming to Vegetarian House for many years. Currently, they offer take out & dining on their covered porch outside, but not dine in. They have plenty of parking in their lot. If you are dining in, consider ordering in advance so your good is ready when you arrive. There is great food variety here. Some of their spicy food items have a nice tinge to them that you often do not get at other vegan restaurants - but don't worry, the items marked spicy are not going to make you cry. The deserts are also very good. We love the Malaysian Curry Chow Mien for its turmeric & slightly spicy taste, along with texture. We also love the Eggplant Bliss - but eat it ASAP so you get the crunch before it softens. The chocolate cakes are great as well.

My favorite

This is probably one of my favorite GFV options. The food is always outstanding and last year they did Holiday meals for Thanksgiving, which was an amazing take home meal. I love the spring roll noodle bowl and the Queen’s Joy, the sauce for the Queen’s Joy is so good. I love that they have tons of options that omit garlic and onion to keep a low FODMAP diet realistic. The raw lemon tart blew my mind! Delicious. I only wish it was closer to frequent more often. They make ordering online simple and food is always ready very fast.

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Tons of GF options, Large menu

So Happy 100% Vegan!

The Airbnb we’re staying at was not a mile from this restaurant. You can imagine how many times we went to this restaurant being that it is all vegan. We tried their sandwiches, their appetizers, their noodle dishes, their desserts, everything! And I have to say that this would totally be Gordon Ramsay approved. They take their time making their dishes and everything is such an amazing option to end your day. I would gooooo if you’re in town!

Pros: 100% Vegan, To- Go option, Delectable Food

Cons: Pricey

Wish I could come here more often

I love this place. My favorite is the spring roll noodle salad dish. My husband isn't as big of a fan of the entrees. He usually gets a burger or gyro. We agree that they have some of the best vegan desserts ever though. Not sure if they still have it, but the coffee cake was amazing. They had fried ice cream at some point too that was pretty good.

Cons: Parking can be difficult
