5 stars all around

This is my favourite vegetarian restaurant in Toronto. It's all around awesome! The service is great, the atmosphere is relaxing and cozy and the food is fabulous! My favourite is the mushroom clay pot. The rice is a unique purple rice and there are a bunch of different mushrooms in the dish. What I love about this place is that they don't skimp on the protein part of the dish ( whether it be tofu, Seitan etc) and include lots of veggies. They don't over carb, over sauce and under protein like a lot of veggie places do. I also love the ginger and mint steamers. I highly recommend the mushroom and prawn appetizer plate. The prawns are super convincing- especially in texture. Did I mention that I love this place?

Lovely

The flavours and options at this restaurant are amazing, you can definitely taste the love that goes into each item! The atmosphere is perfect for a date and wonderful, friendly servers. The only con would be that the proportions do not seem to live up to the prices.

Pros: atmosphere, service, flavours

Cons: price, proportions

Just in time :-)

I was returning to town late and very happy to find this wonderful restaurant where I could still enjoy a delicious vegan dinner after 9 pm :-)

Nicely situated in a street with other restaurants, café's and ice-cream shops. Nice atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff.

Lovely terrace outside, cozy inside.

Pros: Open late., Delicious food., Nice atmosphere.

Cons: No wine, no espresso...

One of the best vegan places in Toronto

Vegetarian Haven is a delight. They have a pretty extensive menu, the food is tasty, the staff are very friendly, the atmosphere is good, and the price is moderate.

My only complaint with them is that they could have longer opening hours. I sometimes go and find them closed at unexpected hours.

Pros: Friendly staff, Tasty food, Lots of desserts

Great Restaurant, Very Lovely Staff

Had my first visit to Vegetarian Haven a couple weeks ago. I was a bit anxious after reading reviews about unfriendly staff, so to my surprise, the staff were WONDERFUL! Very friendly, helpful, and full of joy. They really added to the atmosphere. The food was great as well! Their steamers are absolutely fabulous -- the ginger steamer is a must-try! A friend and I tried some lovely appetizers of dumplings and tempura mushrooms, the pad Thai and a seitan dish, but the real treat was dessert! They really know how to make amazing cakes, ice cream, and cookies at this restaurant! A must visit if living in (or visiting) Toronto!!! The only minor cons were the seitan (it tasted a bit sweeter than we were expecting) and the slightly limited seating (though there was no wait on a table at all).

I've been back a couple times since my first review. Each time got better and better. The coconut curry bowl was AMAZING, and their desserts are always fabulous, as usual. I took a couple non-vegan friends who both loved it. One, I was pleased to hear, said it's much better than a non-vegan restaurant across the street!!! ;) (Updated from previous review on Tuesday November 04, 2014)

Pros: Wonderful Staff, Fast Service, Amazing Desserts

Cons: Seitan was a bit sweet, not savory, Seating is a bit limited

Great Asian Vegan

Lots of wonderfully seasoned, creative menu options. I had the Chef's Special with soup and salad-- a nice balance of flavors and textures and just the right size portions. On a week night on Baldwin Street's restaurant row, this vegan place was the busiest of the bunch. Good reason: value! Good portions, reasonable prices, healthy food in a nice artistic atmosphere with quick attentive service. Fresh pressed juices were very tasty too.

Pros: Plenty of menu choices, Prices and portions, Service and atmosphere

Cons: potentially crowded

Love!

Located in a cute area to walk around in nicer weather, we get here as often as possible for Sizzling Seiten, the most adorably artistic Tofu Drumsticks, Ginger Steamer and usually the two cookies with ice cream. Ya, we kill it when we go and we always get the same thing but it is always better than we remembered!

Pros: All vegan, Friendly staff

Cons: No alcohol served

a long time favorite

i have been a patron at Vegetarian Haven for over 10 years and highly recommend it! it is a subdued restaurant with healthy and tasty food. even though i no longer eat soy (which dominates the menu) i still stop in regularily for a juice and the kale/quinoa salad. i do remember super fresh tempeh though! the manager (owner?) is lovely and staff's the place well, the server's are always pleasant and highly enthusiastic about the food.

Pros: great food, excellent staff, relaxing environment

Awesome Daily Specials!

This is one of my favourite restaurants in the world. Every day they have a chef's special that's always delicious! The owner and servers are considerate and remember me every time I go back there. We even had them cater a party!

I also recommend the drumsticks, which is done around a subtly sweet piece of sugar cane!

Pros: Excellent food, Considerate staff, Nice location and ambiance

first class dining

This restaurant not only has exquisitely crafted dishes - try the chef's special - but a lovely ambience too.

It's a little bit pricey, so perhaps not an everyday restaurant, but certainly a great place if you want a really nice evening.

Pros: fantastic food, great service, lovely ambience

great Vegan Restaurant

Really good Food. I go here often and they often have special menus for special occasions like mother's day but call for reservations well ahead.

I especially like their entrees. They also have supported local artists by letting them have shows their with nothing from sales going to restaurant but some going to the toronto veg assoc.

I would like to see more desserts that are made on site as they seem to most get them in and they arent as fresh as I would like.

Pros: great entrees, great location, friendly and competent staff

Cons: rarely make desserts on site, seating in some spots awkward.

Delicious And Friendly!

Showed up tonight as the kitchen was closing, but kindly they stayed open for us. Had the special of the day which was seitan coated in this breading reminiscent of pumpkin spices with a sweet plum sort of sauce. Tasted incredible! Also came with some sesame tasting noodles and broccoli. Mmm, want to visit again! For dessert, tried the blueberry cheesecake which also hit the spot! Never had anything like that seitan, unreal!

Pros: Tasty, Nice People, Vegan Desserts

wonderful and heartwarming

this restaurant is awesome for vegetarians and vegans. It's mostly Asian themed but has some euro fusion. Appetisers and freshly squeezed juices are amazing, and there a just so many main options that you will have to go back multiple times! They do take out too, and you are advised to make a reservation. Can't wait to go back!

Pros: everything

Cons: nothing

The best in food, service and atmosphere!

As a Torontonian and a vegetarian I have been to Vegetarian Haven many times and it remains by far my favourite restaurant. I still remember feeling a little overwhelmed the first time I went there several years ago, because they have such an extensive menu and I can eat everything on it! Who knew a vegetarian could have so many options to choose from in one place! I have taken veg and non-veg friends and family there, and all have been impressed. On this particular visit (a Saturday evening) we received a lovely warm welcome from the waitress who recognised me, and they gave us a very enthusiastic summary of the specials, which sold them to us! The beet soup was fantastic. It is a lively busy restaurant, with tables far enough apart to have an intimate conversation but close enough for it to feel homely. The food is beautiful, and very filling, with lovely, attentive staff. A definite yes. Be sure to make a reservation!

It's tasty

I'm not sure why I never reviewed this place.
It's not a place a think about going too because I find it a little too classy in atmosphere and price.
There was a really amazing "salmon" burger I had a couple times for take out. The Singapore Seitan was good, but would have been half the price at say Green Earth.
They use to have cake shakes, I don't think they have them anymore :(
They seem to be getting fancier and their prices higher.
A few times I've really not liked the server. But if you get BILLY - you will have a lovely meal...

Pros: some great combos of food

Cons: pricey, desserts (yawn)

Amazing Vegan food!

We went to this restaurant with 2 other couples, and found it cozy, reasonably priced and everything was delicious. We had tofu drumsticks as an appetizer, and soy milk with ginger and cinnamon. The main courses were amazing, and dessert was too. Going back soon!

Really good food

I'm not generally blown away by the specials but LOVE having fried "prawns" for an appetizer and then the "seafood" souperbowl. Yum.
