welcomed eatery to keep the E in BeACON

I was overjoyed to learn that Beacon, a name so eerily close to Bacon, now has a vegan eatery. Until Vegetalien opened, I ate at all-vegetarian Bliss Kitchen across the river, and before that at Sukhothai, on the same block as Vegetalien, tho not (yet) listed on HappyCow. (Sukhothai is a Thai restaurant with brown rice and a vegetarian sub-menu that is actually all-vegan except for one dish with egg.)

Vegetalien is a soup and sandwich and salad shop. On my 1st visit 2 years ago, the dishes my party of 3 were served were good. I was the vegan of my dinner companions, the other a vegetarian, and the 3rd a carnivore, yet there was something here for all. Last week, on my 2nd visit with another vegan friend, I was somewhat disappointed, and she was too. The lentil soup was fine and portion was generous, but my tuna salad wrap was much much too oniony, so should more accurately be called an onion salad wrap. (Fine is you like onions.) My adding avocado for $2 was not worth those few meagre slices of avocado. (So skip the avocado add-on.)

Great that I was able to customize my juice by omitting the apple for an all-veggie juice. And the price was right, except for their unprecedented addition of ice cubes. Adding ice to a veggie juice makes it a veggie drink, not a veggie juice. (So request, indeed demand, no ice.)

Be advised that the two front entrance steps are very steep and lack a handrail, so if you have a mobility disability as I do, you will need to eat at their outdoors table on the sidewalk, as I did both times. But the table and chairs are very uncomfortable, and the umbrella provides just barely enough shade for 2 people. I always prefer to patronize a vegan eatery over a vegetarian eatery, but with a heavy heart I've decided that this all-vegan sandwich shop is simply not worth my effort. Next time am traveling on I-84, I intend to stick with the full-meal experience provided by all-vegetarian Bliss Kitchen in Newburgh.

Vegan Delight

There is really nothing bad I have to say. This place was amazing! A nice environment small yet roomy. It was Very clean the service was welcoming and helpful. Food was delicious. The wait time for the food was short. For vegan and non vegan alike you could really enjoy the food choices, atmosphere, and everything they have to offer. They have fresh juices as well in the range of about $4-$6. It was worth every penny. I will definitely eat here again and bring friends along too.

Pros: Everything is Vegan, Food Taste excellent, Prompt kind service

Yummy Vegan food .

Great vegan food right in downtown Beacon NY. Cute small cozy place. The staff is friendly and well informed on Vegan food. The BLT the cook makes from scratch is a must try on menu. I'm NOT doubting the bad reviews because I got the same feeling the first year they were open but we've been back multiple times since and the New Staff are a much improved so management took note .

Pros: 100 % Yummy Vegan food

Cons: A little pricey but isn't every restaurant ?

Cute Spot, Limited Menu and Small Space

This is a cute spot to eat if you happen to be in Beacon and need some quick vegan grub. The jackfruit tacos are delicious and I enjoyed them immensely. The worker behind the counter is extremely sweet, kind and attentive. However, I was disappointed to see that they have such a limited menu. I found the restaurant extremely small, too, which made me feel cramped and uncomfortable.

Pros: Fast, delicious vegan grub, Great, friendly customer service, Comfortable ambiance

Cons: Very limited menu, Tiny dining area, Feels very cramped

Hey, so thank you for checking us out, we've been working on our menu since our new chef has come on board to consistently have a range of options.

On any given day we should have 4-5 sandwiches, a Buddha Bowl, 1-2 Soups, 1-2 Salads plus the possibility of a Daily special.

In the last week we've had Guacamole + Chips, Grilled Cheez + Tomato Soup & a Fresh Quinoa Taco. We also just added our Grrek inspired Buddha Bowl which had Feta & Pesto.

Our space is a bit small but we've been playing with the amount of spacing between tables to make it feel more spacious for people Dining in.

Since it's warmer there's also seating available in front of our cafe.

It's also hard to invest in a larger space since the demand for Vegan food in Beacon right now is bit untested, as demand grows maybe we can invest in a larger space.

We hope you'll check out out again in the future and let us know if we've made improvements.

Cozy place for quality vegan fare

I've been to this place three or four times since it opened and it has been getting better and better. It's very small, with just a few tables, but it is right across from a park so there are more place to eat in decent weather. I have not experienced the poor service mentioned in other reviews, so maybe the management is listening. Some of the recipes may be riffs on Isa Chandra Moskowitz recipes, for those who are familiar with her fare. I really enjoyed the BLT sandwich and the broccoli cheddar soup (several times) plus a portobello panini. One time I asked for the soup to be hotter. I love sandwich and soup food, so that is my bias, but I truly enjoy this new addition to the Beacon scene.

Pros: Great sandwich/soup fare, Good, friendly vibe, Nice location across from the water/park

Cons: Small, just a few tables, Kitchen appears small, so not a fast-food place

Adorable eatery and delicious food

I was expecting Vegetalien to disappoint based on previous reviews but my husband and I are still raving about our meal there! We had a GREAT experience. The service was kind and quick. We ordered a portobello panini , Buddha bowl and jack fruit tacos and two beer box juices. Everything was delicious and full of flavor. Small seating area inside , but it was packed, love that it promotes veganism and peace on their front windows. My only critique would be to not use disposable plastic cups for customers dining in - otherwise we were thrilled with our visit

Pros: great vibe, good selections, fun town

Cons: plastic disposable cups used

Thank you for giving us a chance, and for the Feedback.

I personally am hoping we can move towards using Stainless steel cups for people drinking in. We do have compostable Straws now made of Corn!

I'm not sure if you've been back recently, but we now have an amazing BLT (the Facon is made with Rice Paper)!!

We put a lot of effort into what we do and reading this makes it worth it

Disappointed

I was here a month ago and I was hesitant in writing a review. I decided as a Vegan it’s my position to inform people. I was here with a group of friends and we walked in and no one greeted us and we waited at least 10 minutes when it wasn’t even busy. I could hear people chatting in the kitchen. I finally got up to ask for a menu... staff was very unfriendly, no one was vegan that worked here so they didn’t have a clue what I was talking about when I tried having a conversation with them. I ordered a smoothie and it was awful... we ordered almost everything on the menu and it was okay but nothing to write home about. It wasn’t worth the price and the food took forever to come out... some small girl was walking back and forth acting like a loonie. We all had the same strange feeling about the place. Employees were rude, food okay, I don’t think they know how to make a good smoothie and need a lesson since it is a vegan restaurant. We won’t be back....

Cons: Rude staff, Terrible smoothies, Rude staff

Hey, so I'm really sorry to hear you and your friends had a bad experience at our cafe.

Since you visited last there has been a change of staff in the front of house, we heard feedback from various people and being rude is something we are not trying to promote (not to say we ever were, but it's something we won't tolerate)

We've also added a new head chef who has been doing an amazing job!

If you decide to try us out again please try out our BLT sandwich or our new Buddha Bowl.
