Serves meat, vegan options available. No menu card; the set meal changes daily (water, wine, raki, starter, main course, dessert) and costs around euro 12/person. Owner places emphasis on fresh ingredients and herbs that she grows in her garden. Choose between the "vegetarian menu" (ovo, lacto) and the "meat menu." Fresh bread follows along with a large garden salad. Next, a plate of assorted cheese and olives, 6 or so cooked local Cretan cuisine dishes, in quantities depending on the number of people at the table. Open Mon-Sat 8:00am-4:00pm, 7:00pm-11:00pm. Closed Sun.

Fabulous vegetarian selection - Edit
Great place. Wonderfully eccentric owner who serves whatever is fresh and available on the day! The best of sustainable eating!! We had vegetarian Moussaka vegan stuffed peppers, giant beans, cous cous and so much more. Great food just keeps arriving. We were a group of 12. Was €17euro per person including as much wine and raki as we could drink and fresh spring water of course.

5 points- absolute delicious - Edit
At Vivi’s place, you experience truly authentic cuisine.
Read moreVegan, vegetarian, or with meat – there’s something for everyone.
I called a day in advance to let them know that two of us are vegan, while the other three eat everything. And we had the most magical meal.
There’s no menu – instead, Vivi serves a variety of dishes based on whatever vegetables the garden provides that day, along with whatever she loves to cook. In other words: every visit is a surprise, and a first-class one at that.
The dessert – always on the house – was fresh fruit and two different cakes, one of them vegan.
5 out of 5 points.

Vivacious Vivi - Edit
Since there was no menu, I was hesitant to eat here not knowing what would be served, but owner Vivi reassured us. Vivi even asked why we are vegan. Of the several dishes, the Fakes (lentil soup) was my favorite. After stuffing ourselves, Vivi offered us even more food. We declined, but they still served us dates as a dessert. Vivi even gave us free vegan Spanakopita (spinach pie) to take with us.

disappointing - Edit
We arrived hoping to be able to eat anything but when we tell them that we were vegans they told us that they were busy and could not do anything for us, so we searched in other restaurants of the area. Very disappointing.

Highly reccomend this place - Edit
Such a lovely owner. She told us that she hasn‘t a menu and cooks different plates for 12€ pP. We told her that we are vegan but it wasn’t a problem at all. I was already happy that she knews the word. She brought us 5 different places and all were delicious. She actually couldn‘t stop to bring us more and more food. As we said we are totally full she came with two smoothies „you can‘t eat anymore but a drink should be ok“. Afterwards we talked a little bit with. A really nice women who knows a lot about the vegan kitchen. She also has a part in a German Vegetarian cookbook. Its worth to come to Zaros only for this restaurant.

Friendly Proprieter/Cook - Edit
I arrived in Zaros during the first week of October just as the summer season was ended. On the day that I visited Vegera, the only vegan option were gemistas - stuffed tomatoes, peppers and vine leaves. I had been eating gemistas for three days on the road while traveling through Crete, and while I do love them I had to take a pass. I explained this to the proprieter/cook who asked me what I would like and offered to cook something special for me the next day. She said that during peak summer season she has more vegan/veg options. I couldn't take her up on her offer to cook me something the next day because I was headed out of town, but her warmth and friendly hospitality deserves special mention.
