El ambiente es tranquilo y el lugar esta limpio y elegante. Esperaba que fuera mas caro pero el precio es razonable.

Nice option for Nagoya

Small place a bit out of the way, but still walkable and reliable.

The menu when we went was a mapo tofu rice plate, and we scored a piece of pumpkin cheesecake on the way out. Both were good - would def go back for the cheesecake.

Staff are super nice and have some English skills if you’re concerned about that. Just be nice and patient.

Pros: Great dessert

Cons: Bit off the beaten path

You should try it!

It was 3rd times for me to go there. Whenever I go, the staffs are friendly and talk to me in English with smile. I really enjoyed the curry. The smell of spice made me hungry. You should try it!

Hidden, quick, adorable

We sought this bento stop after our trip to Nagoya Castle. The owners were super welcoming and the “special” bento we had was so refreshing! I didn’t feel stuffed after but it made me last the whole afternoon without feeling hungry. It seems they had sold out of takeaway options but were happy to put together a meal for us. They even asked about our travels and wanted a photo with us 🥰 please note: Cash only (have requested happy cow update)

Pros: Hospitality, Filling food, Fast from kitchen to table

Cons: Takeaway might sell out

Worth to try

When I visited the place, they had only one type of dish which I choose to eat inside. The food was tasty but the portion not very big, and they served no drinks or desserts. Overall, it was not 100% satisfying meal for 1080 yen. However, the place is worth visiting at least once.

Pros: Tasty, Good location

Cons: No variety, No desserts, Not a very good deal

Great food and lovely owner

Arrived during heavy, heavy rain and was the only one there. They gave me a towel to dry off and later an umbrella to use so that I didn't have to buy one at the konbini! The food and spices were lovely but personally it was a tad small for me. Still delicious too! Owner speaks a bit of English too and loves promoting a vegan lifestyle.

Great bento!

I stopped in at lunch time and they whipped me up an excellent dry curry bento. The top layer had tandoori tofu wedges, seasoned eggplant and okra, steamed potato sticks, and a few others. The bottom layer was a large serving of keema curry. All the flavours were pleasant and I felt satisfied after.
As an earlier poster mentioned though, you do end up with quite a bit of waste. As most plant-based or vegan people I know are also environmentally conscious, this is the only downside.

Pros: Vegan bento

Cons: A lot of plastic and paper waste

Awesome Packed lunch

Really cheap and awsome if you're planning to travel the following day as there aren't many vegan options around the train stations

Great Vegan Bento Despite the Use of Plastic

Read more in this vegan Nagoya guide: https://itravelforveganfood.com/vegan-nagoya-guide/

Just a few minutes from Nagoya Castle is this vegan bento place called Vegefirst. The bento includes a selection of 4-5 small dishes and they change slightly everyday. You can also choose between 2 sizes (big and small). At the time of visit, they also sell soy cake and kale smoothie.

The dishes in the bento are well-made. It also has a nice variety of tastes and textures. The one pictured is a small box.

There are only about 7 seats in the shop. So it could get full easily during peak lunch hours.

The downside is that even if you dine in, you are still given the plastic bento box with disposable cutlery.

Pros: All vegan bento, Reasonable prices

Cons: Plastic container and utensils

Finally a vegan bento!

I was excited to try a fully vegan bento in Japan and wasn’t disappointed. Informed that the option that day was vegan although I’ve seen from other reviews that might not always be the case. I had the box to take out and really enjoyed all the components it contained.

Cons: Disposable plastic packaging

Delicious and Healthy

You can get either a large or small sized bento, with rice, some vegetable side dishes, and some sort of deep fried dish. They change up the contents regularly. They taste pretty good and you get a lot of variety. My only negative comment is that they use disposable chopsticks and plastic tray, even if you eat at the restaurant.

Worth the walk

Many Japanese eat "obento" for lunch: a boxed meal consisting of many small pockets with various kinds of food. Most Japanese have a bento box for lunch, almost all Japanese enjoy a bento box when they travel long distances on the train.

Thanks to Vegefirst vegans can now also enjoy the delights of a bento box. For those travelling by train from Nagoya, it's quite a walk from the station (about 20 to 30 minutes). But it's worth it! The people in the shop are very kind and helpful and the bento itself is very tasty, although the portion could have been a bit bigger. The box looks large, but it's so shallow that with every scoop you reach the bottom of the box.

Please note that not all bento boxes are vegan. When I arrived (a few minutes before official opening hours) they warned me that the box contained oyster sauce. However, it was kindly replaced by something else and I could enjoy a good lunch in the train.

Pros: good taste, healthy, low price

Cons: small portion, not always vegan?

This place was delicious. Staff was really kind. Best meal I've had in a long time and very reasonably priced. I got the large bento for ¥850 and it was perfection. Thank you!
