The best vegetarian restaurant in Downtown Rio

Vegecoop is my favorite vegetarian restaurant. It is not fancy and it seems kinda poor at the firt sight. But it is very clean, the waitress are super friendly and the prices are very good. It is "pay-per-kilo" (price based on the weight") The variety of dishes is impressing and the desserts are delicious. The only problem I find is that I always eat more than what I should.

Pros: Astounding Variety, Excellent quality, Friendly staff

Cons: Stairs, Downtown, No AC

neat, crowded place with tons of history

Smack in the middle of downtown, this is a fun place to visit but gets extremely crowded, especially with multiple lines snaking through the place (payment, weighing, buffet). The food is classic Rio veg style and the condiments are impressive... several types of minced garlic! Lots of onions, etc. As mentioned, vegan items are not clearly marked; you'll have to ask. The setting is pretty lovely and historic, right near Praça Tiradentes, and you can see lots of old Cariocas here who you just know have been coming for decades.

Definitely worth going to, though I prefer Tempeh or Reino nearby.

Pros: great food, classic, historic place, not too expensive

Cons: very crowded, items not clearly marked
